A beautiful rendition of a great song by Toad The Wet Sprocket! Toad was as under rated as Fates Warning, both should be much bigger! Perhaps a version of "Hold Her Down", which would be a good fit to heavy up a bit!
I will give the secrets you request And you will be the one to sacrifice So lay your olive arms upon my breast Sing the poems, free the butterflies Pray your gods who ask you for your blood For they are strong and angry jealous ones Or lay upon my altar now your love I fear my time is short There are armies moving close Be quick, my love I feel my body weakened by the years As people turn to gods of cruel design Is it that they fear the pain of death? Or could it be they fear the joy of life? Pray your gods who hold you by your fear For they are quick and ruthless punishers Or lay upon my altar now your love I fear my time is short There are armies moving on Be quick, my love Dona nobis pacem pacem (Latin for "Grant us peace")
Glen Phillips of Toad the Wet Sprocket, who wrote the song, is an avowed agnostic with a fascination with religion and religious imagery. So while the song uses a lot of specifically Catholic imagery the song should be interpreted through a lens of mythology, custom, and tradition. That doesn't mean you can't interpret it as being about Christ, if that is what speaks to you, but that isn't what the song is about in any specific religious context
@@Hakumeiun Fates Warning also made a song called, "SEVEN STARS" which is about the "SEVEN CHURCHES" from the Bible. Jesus is the only real God, Lord and Saviour who can help you overcome all that afflicts you
@@Hakumeiun thanks for that! Toad is my second favourite band. Took me ages to realise which Paul was making people nervous. Then I thought I had fallen in love with a Christian rock band. This explanation makes a lot more sense. I don't know why I never investigated what Glenn's beliefs were.
@@theackolyte593 As they aged they be more favorite band, talking about feelings, love, they send you warm and emotions. No Metallica and no DT is able to do this. They are mechanical metal without feelings.
@@simonsoffer5038 You've obviously never really listened to Metallica or read their lyrics closely. There is much more there than you would think from their appearance or heavy sound. Metal doesn't mean shallow or stupid.
Beautiful song. I agree that the jealous gods exist. Jesus Christ is the only God who shed His precious blood for us. He is loving and wrathful to the people who don't love Him and obey His commands.
Yeah your way off!! Whoever told you that the prince of peace, who was all enlightened, who love everyone is wrathful is a liar! You need to meet him yourself, look inside, don't listen to someone else's vision of Jesus, they are usually wrong. And people like that don't know Jesus. And remember his teachings and his humility, and the way he lived. If you do live like him, you will go to heaven. Don't think too much on how he died, this is a slippery slope. It could bring anger into your heart, this is not what he wants for you. But this just my opinion, always think and find out for yourself. Love and compassion.
