Trust me, Nolan decided, in part, because he wanted to teach his son a lesson, and in part, because of the Lion Guy (named Battlebeast). Because right now, in the first season, he was the strongest character in the show, by far. It’s like Kingpin hiring Thanos to fight Spiderman. Basically that’s what happened

Nolan wanted to teach Mark a lesson about listening to him. Also to see if Mark Heals fully and quickly genetically he's more Viltrumite than human.

Well I think teaching your teenage son a lesson like that and seeing how quickly he can get back in shape after being one step from death isn't what a good parent would do
