Here are a few ads that aired the weekend of Father's Day 1985 on New York City-area TV stations. While they don't necessarily mention the holiday, clearly these were meant to inspire moms and kids with gift ideas for the old man.
First up is Steve Garvey in a commercial for Paramount Power Blowers, which were on sale at your local Pergament; then Dairy Queen offered their treats (with a trophy cake for dad, as announced by WOR's Ted Mallie); Brut put a gal in her man's clothes because they smelled so damn good; and Black + Decker showed just how handy pop can be with their tools. Happy Dad's Day!
