That's how a son should address his Dad, especially after he is told to do something. I think it honestly should be "Yes sir", or "No sir." Calling you're father "Dad", perfectly fine, but when you're told to do something by him, you should always respond with: "Yes sir." Or if it's your mom, you say: "Yes ma'am."
@@thecowboy9698 only in America. In Europe no one addresses their parents as sir or ma'am as it would be strange in non American culture. Its too formal in the family home we would always use mam/mum and dad or a variant of that. As an adult it would be unthinkable to answer to your parents in such a way as sir or ma'am. Other people would think you're stupid as when you have your own family or not even living at home any longer you don't answer to your parents any more. The only 2 people the average person answers to are the person that pays them wages and the law of the land.
That's what a lifetime of exercise, hard-drinking, hard-fucking, and hard work does to you. I have guys my age who've lived a similar lifestyle and we all look about 10+ years older than we are in actuality. My wife is actually ten years (roughly) older than me and nobody ever guesses that she's older than me. For some it's not until they come to our place and see our graduation mugs that they figure it out. Personally at my age I'm grateful for how much more serious people take me when I speak my mind. But when it sucks is when you get up in the morning, or sit down somewhere that's a bit shorter than what you're used to!
@@oaesiir5676 Sean Connery has never looked older when it comes to skin condition. Hes just balded quickly and grey hair early. Just genetics. If he shaved his beard and mustache and had a wig he'd actually look a similar age to Harrison Ford in this film, just hair bro😂😂😂
Henry Jones was supposed to be the aloof intellectual, asshole father.... Then he was played by Sean Connery, with so much warmth... I so much wish Indy 4 had been made in the 90s, that way we could've seen him again.
I’m adamant that the “Monkey King” and “Lost City of Atlantis” are the two instalments of this series we will never see but were arguably the most compelling.. 😔
Despite all of the great things about Crusade, Connery is the heart and soul of it, his performance is largely why it works so well. Couldn't imagine it without him.
"Good, where is it?" "......I don't know." "You found it and you don't know where it is." "It wasn't my fault they...." "Humph, not your fault, aren't you 20 years too old for that excuse?" "The government took it when I brought it back and they wouldn't tell me what they'd done with it.....and how old do you think I am anyway?" "So you just stayed quiet and let the people in charge take it from you again, have you learned by now? And if you have to ask people how old you are then I really can't help you"
Perhaps the best father-son chemistry ever created between two actors. It’s their astoundingly palpable connection that makes this film rise above all the other Indiana Jones films, IMO.
100%. I especially love this first bit with the vase and how it contrasts with their final scene together ("Indiana...Let it go.") Really sells the father/son bonding aspect and Henry's character arc.
I’m seriously not bragging but to think when I was a kid we could go see a blockbuster movie like this and then go out on an adventure on our bikes all night when we got home. It just feels like kids today don’t have those kind of things going on.
What's sad is I saw this opening day, I started cracking up and most of the audience looked at me like I was the jerk lol..most of them were my age or younger (I was 20 at the time)
It's too bad the last movie he was in before he died was f*cking "Sir Billy". He should've let his final movie be "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen", at least THAT movie was enjoyably bad, Sir Billy was just a big, fat peace of shit!
I honestly love that they paired up Sean Connery and Harrison Ford for this movie. Both in their separate movies are the detached, partially-rogueish yet badass characters (Solo and Indy on one side, and 007 and Quartermain on the other) who are meant to be hated in some ways yet are still loved as favorite characters.
I mean; Thulsa Doom/King Joffer/Mufasa is the father of Luke Skywalker. 007 is the father of Han Solo. Even more; Sean & James were Both in Hunt for the Red October. So Legends know the roll. 😎👍🏽
Unfortunately, you're missing one of my favorite father-son moments in the film: "I suddenly remembered my Charlemagne: 'Let my armies be the rocks and the trees...and the birds of the air." And as he walks away, Indy looks at him with a mixture of pride ("Damn...Dad's a LOT cooler than I thought") and regret ("How much did I miss out on from never really getting to know him?").
@@Hades8103 it wouldn't stop the one man who changed your diapers and is directly responsible for your very existence. Parents get a pass on a lot of things. For example, no one could slap me like Henry, Sr. to Indy without bloodshed and maximum retaliation. My parents, my late stepfather, my late paternal grandparents, late maternal grandfather and my still living maternal grandmother are the few who can and live.
As a parent I will certainly be reflecting on my choices made if my kid grab a gun from someone and commits a quadruple murder in front of me as a way of expressing frustration.
Besides having great on-screen chemistry, this is the only time in the entire series that I feel like Indy is coming up against an intellectual equal. Belloq was cunning, but openly admitting to envy Indiana's archaeological achievements, we don't talk about THAT ONE, and Spalko, though she could certainly hold her own, was always needing Indiana's help with some thing or another. When it comes to trying to outwit or out-maneuver his father, he will always be second best.
Man are you implying that Temple of Doom is more of an unspeakable travesty than the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull? It ain't a perfect movie, but it's nowhere near that abysmal.
@@tubbs2132 I know. I was shocked to see him say "we don't talk about THAT ONE" followed by a reference to Spalko. Incredible. Temple of Doom is wonderful. It's not the main course, but holy hell are parts of it well made. Besides, Raiders and Crusade are so similar that the trilogy needed at least one installment that was completely different. That's Temple of Doom.
@@Ben-pd2bx Well to be fair to this argument, Temple of Doom had no intellectual equal. The closest villain is Mula Rham, who is a fanatic, and clearly is blinded by his faith. Maybe if they made him and the prime minister the same character, a man educated by the west invaders who uses clever tatics to gain control of his own people, it may have work. By the way, not saying Temple of Doom is bad, its a fun movie, just saying it has flaws.
The way Indiana looked at his Dad after gunning down three Nazis and said not to call him Junior was so badass. He made it perfectly clear that he's not a kid anymore but a man who ain't afraid to get dirty.
I like how the first scene effortlessly establishes a new character, expands on two characters relationship and forwards the plot all in three minutes while being humorous and interesting. That's just good writing.
This performance should've earned Sean Connery a second best supporting Oscar. He was soooo damn entertaining. Stole every scene he was in. Actually River deserved one as well. He was equally fantastic. "Everybody is lost but me!" I LOVE IT!!! I CANT GET ENOUGH OF IT!!!!!!
"The quest for the Grail is not archeology, it's a race against evil, if it is captured by the Nazi, the armies of darkness will march over the face of the Earth, do you understand me?" This is why The Last Crusade is the best out of the trilogy. The film is not about archaeology (not necessarily) it's about good vs evil.
The last clip makes me think deeply and gives some sympathy to Goro Miyazaki, Hayao Miyazaki’s son. They rarely spoke to one another, If old Hayao spent less time honing his craft and spent more time studying how kind, loving, empathic, American fathers treated their sons, his relationship with Goro would be much different but better. Instead what he “taught” Goro was that he was less important to him than ordinary people who’ve never seen his face, in person, in other parts of the world, and Goro learned it so well, it’s perhaps the catalytic reason why they don’t get along so well.
I really get where you’re coming from. I swear shitty movies these days get promoted way too much however there are still a ton of great movies today. Probably just as many shitty movies that came out when this was filmed.
Raiders... The perfect adventure. 10 out of 10. Temple... A very fun but very flawed follow up. Solid 7 out of 10. Last Crusade... For my money, as good as the original. 10 put of 10. Crystal Skull... Same as Temple. Very fun but very flawed. Solid 7 out of 10.
I love all the Indy’s. But Last Crusade is my favourite. Ford and Connery have just amazing chemistry. So much star power, humour and on screen charisma. it’s a shame we didn’t get another film with the both of them.
Last Crusade is the best written of the Indy movies. Raiders has the more iconic scenes, but the writing and the human emotion altogether is better with tLC. As for ToD I cringe the writing follows slasher/horror flick tropes, complete with the ditsy blonde
Raiders and TLC are the best. For me I like KOTCS and TTD on a lower but equal level. The opening and the ants in KOTCS are great moments. Just a few things I wish they had done differently.
Watching this makes me so sad, knowing that Indy 5 will not live up to the excitement I felt while watching this in theaters, all those years ago. I can’t tell you how much I miss blockbusters that were made with 100% practical effects, interesting dialogue, characters you care about, and a story that keeps you fully immersed! It’s crazy how much more rich and vibrant this 1989 movie looks compared to its 2008 sequel!
Janusz Kaminski (Spielberg's director of photography since Schindler's List) is a genius cinematographer. But like you said Kingdom of the Crystal Skull looks off compared to the originals and I've noticed the same "look" in all of Spielberg's films since and it's bothered me.
The Dad stare which I well remember being on the receiving end of more than once down the years, and one which my own son has claimed to have gotten from me 😂
RIP, Sean Connery. The greatest Scottish actor of all time. I doubt like hell that any casting director will ever be able to cast someone else in any of the roles you ever played- ESPECIALLY James Bond! Despite the never ending line of successors to that role, - you made it THE career making role to play for every other actor who's played it since! Rest easy!
I love the approving look that Henry gives Indy when he uses the pole for jousting... turned disapproving when he shoves it through the spokes of the chasing rider.
This was our best movie with my dad. Pure brilliancy from Sean Connery. Still have goosebumps as my dad passed away 2023 march , so many emotions and nostalgia for me. Sean Connery was favoured actor for both of us.
After watching Young Indiana Jones and this, I truly appreciate Sean Connery here, I like the series, but man. Young Indy made Henry Sr. out to be a monster of a man, cold as ice and cruel . Here you can see the strain, but it’s clear that Henry is making an effort, he’s eccentric but you can tell that theirs human warmth, he doesn’t despise Indy, it’s just it’s way. What I mean is, you can tell that Henry Sr. loves Indy here, he may not know how to express it but there’s love. Let me put it this way the Young Indy version of Henry Sr. Never hugged his son expect one time. This version does it rarely, but he does it.
For how many years must you have studied history to be *that* good at telling a late 14th century Ming dynasty vase copy... "Jesus christ" *he slaps him* 👋 "that's for blasphemy"
Sean Connery has left this world, with a great reward, illumination... Gained by His Last Crusade for The Holy Grail in 1989... Rest in peace, Henry Jones Sr. You will be missed, dearly...
Sean Connery.. one of the all time great gentlemen of the world...not only as a fantastic actor but a wonderful human being with his work to help others.... REST IN PEACE old friend hope to see you again someday
This movie was so great. This reminds me of how much fun it was watching it as a kid. Might have been my favorite back then. Was a perfect ending to the franchise....
