Father Yakinthos, abbot and starets
As remembered by Putna, 90 years from his birth
10th of September 1924 - 23rd of June 1998
Father Yakinthos was a missionary-guide and witness of Christ in very difficult times, when the atheistic-communist regime emphasized the materialistic-scientific doctrine, denying God’s existence. With wisdom, the father would interweave the historical vein with the Holy Scripture. Father Yakinthos was a museum guide for 20 years, an abbot for 15 years, and also a spiritual advisor… a life dedicated to the Church. The greatest joy he has ever had in this passing life was the canonization of Praiseworthy Prince Stephen the Great, whose memory he served with time and without time at Putna.
On the 23rd of June 1998, father Yakinthos reposed into the Lord while sitting in the confession chair, with his head bowed towards his heart, indicating that he was praying, and with his right hand stretched, truthfully absolving people’s sins into eternity. Now he reposes into Christ’s light. He was relentlessly praying. He was a model of love and responsible living, showing deep devotion for the history of the Romanian people. He embodied a high level of national conscience and a distinguished spiritual life.
