After being on deployment for 8 months i missed my sons first birthday and first steps. Now hes about to be 3. Not gonna lie and say im not struggling. My wife was looking at videos, video collages that she makes with emotional music. She was having fun looking at them but i wanted to cry the whole time. Beating myself up, thinking about how i could be better, how im failing him. I had to go in the room cause i just wanted to cry in privacy. My wife found me and hugged me. Striving for perfection is ok but cant let it consume you. Today i will focus on him when i get home. Thank you for this video!

You should do your family a big favor and get out of the military. I was one and done, now I make way more money and I don't miss a moment with my sons.

Jared, this video is great, thank you. We have one kid, a 12 yo daughter, and I've found that regardless of boy or girl, raising a kid and instilling in her my own values has been the most valuable thing I've ever done, no exaggeration. It's afforded me the chance to be both father, big brother, mentor and friend. So many people seem to have "daddy issues" (both men and women), and if I do anything right for her it'll be to model for her the type of love and respect she should expect from other men in her life, when the time comes. Thanks for the content. KP in California.

I read a long time ago that your kids need to see you working hard and at sometimes suffer to be successful. I did the Tactical Games in SC last weekend and I was able to meet up with my daughter since she goes to the University of South Carolina. She got to see the last workout- basically 90 seconds of burpees over a barricade. I told her she got to see her dad suffer today. LOL It's fun watching my kids grow up and maturing along the way. We will never be perfect as parents but kids understand if you're trying and putting the effort in. Another thing I always tell my kids. It's not necessarily the outcome but the effort put forth towards achieving that outcome.

Man Jared, this has weighed on me since I found out my wife was pregnant with my now 8 year old son. I constantly question whether I’m doing this right and where I’m leaving those little emotional scars. Now, a three year old daughter is with us also and I’m asking myself similar, (yet different) thoughts. I loved this podcast. Hopefully exodus co can stick to this theme for a while and shed more light on it. One area I certainly need to work on is reserving energy for my wife and children. Between commercial fishing and building us a house I come home pretty beat and I’m sure everyone in my house suffers because of that…

Good job, thank you... thanks for the encouragement. Now a days, it's so easy to focus on the negative; thanks for the up building words. It's so easy to tear down but, it takes a lot of work to build (or upbuild your brother). "Romans 15: We, though, who are strong ought to bear the weaknesses of those not strong, and not to be pleasing ourselves . 2 Let each of us please his neighbor for his good, to build him up."

Truth. However you missed one big key that makes everything you are saying work. In order for us to be the men we need to be for our families and our communities, Christ must be first. Not just in a way where you go to church on Sundays. It's a every minute of every day, all in just like you train.
