I love this movie!! It's the perfect depiction of the Italian-American families I grew up with in Netcong, New Jersey. I can relate to most of it because I'm a quarter-Italian and was raised Catholic. The musical score by Joe Renzetti reminds me of the brass band that played at the Feast of St. Cesario every July and the Feast of the Assumption every August. Candice Azzara is the only major cast member still alive.
Remember when Anne Bancroft asks Dom DeLuise to pick up an ice cream cake for their nephew named Anthony? When DeLuise returns home with the ice cream cake, Bancroft opens the box and discovers a piece of the cake is missing, i.e. the letters O, N, and Y are missing from the message "HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANTHONY" which was written in icing on the cake. Bancroft immediately points a knife at Deluise and screams at him, "YOU ATE THE ONY!!!" That scene STILL makes me LMAO after 29 years! :-)
This is a great movie and definately underated. It's wonderfully put together and hilarious!!!! Alot of people think of Cannonball Run when thinking of Dom Deluise movies but I think of this one. Love ya Dom.
I love Anne Bancroft, she wrote and directed this, and I adore Dom DeLuise ("The Secret of Nimh"). I just saw an interview with her, and she said she wrote the part for him, with him in mind ("not about him - for him"). How flattering, and how precious that she saw in him something that greatly inspired her.
Very underated film. I watched part of this being filmed on a New York City street and was able to take some photos of Anne Bancroft & Dom. A man kept interrupting the filming and Dom was very kind to him when he realized he had some problems.
Great movie and great actor...Dom R.I.P. man, you certainly fooled me. You lived a lot longer than most of us will admit to thinking. I mean 75 years old is like 200 in fat comedic actor years!
Believe it or not, the very first time I saw this movie in its entirety, I thought for sure Dom DeLuise's character was going to die at the end. Boy oh boy, was I wrong! :^)
Dom, states in one his final interviews shortly after Anne Bancroft passing, they he misses her very much. But in this film its Tough Sicilian Love, i guess,,,since she is a total Pain in ^&*@ to him.
Maybe a director’s cut? I don’t remember seeing the breast feeding full screen shot as a child. Or hitting him with the cane (umbrella? Spoon? Idk) scene. That would give it a more serious rating.
0:08- Great, we had to go back to 1980 for the "Brad Tries..." biography. 0:57- Is this a sitcom pilot? 1:12- Oh, my bad. It's the lost pilot for another Incredible Hulk series. 1:33- Wait, is Dom DeLuise playing himself?
