From 4K to 40K subs....He's gonna blow up. Then he'll be too cool for school. We must never let him reach 1mil SUBS. He's one of us now....don't let them take the Cheap Audio outta you Man :)
Like the good old days, I grew up with Loudness Button, Paper Cones and Soft Dome tweeters, to name a few. No substitute for loudness button but hard to find. Paper cones just have the right sound, no exotic material needed. They are fast and tight perfect texture. My wish is for Klipsch to make a speaker like the RP 600M but with a paper cone and throw in a small horn loaded midrange, all in a bookshelf !! That copper woofer is not the best looking thing but I understand the idea. Great review Thank You !!
I'm with you. I like my 600m and glad I got them.. But might be even happier the day I don't need them anymore. I just want them to be... better. And they're not. Also my room sucks so I really need to try some more things before I give up. They have made me smile many times too
Yessss loudness! I use an 80s era NAD preamp with a loudness button plus defeatable bass and treble controls. It’s awesome. I’ll never go back to something without tone controls.
I always liked the loudness button. Then a few years ago I progressed to the loudness KNOB. Some yamaha models have a loudness knob. I have a yamaha R5 receiver and AV 50 integrated, both from mid to late 1980's. A can of Deoxit is good for cleaning the scratchy pots on old yamahas from ebay.
Cinderblock shelving...channeling my college days when I first got into stereo gear. Sheesh that was a long time ago..you've brought me all the way back Randy...
I just love my Sith Audio pencils! I was hesitant at first because I was using a lower quality, non-audiophile pencil to mark measurements before cutting but, now with these new, high-end pencils from Sith Audio, my measuring has gotten so much better, I can hear and feel the difference when I mark a line. The writing is much more concise and clear while giving the line a full bodied appearance without being overly rich in texture. I am hearing things with the Sith Audio pencil I have never heard before!
I've been using the ex214 for a few months with a pair of rp600m. The loudness button is always on and is just what the pr600m needs. Its a fun sound at any volume, has plenty of detail for me. Also like the versatility, I'm using the on board bluetooth for an amazon fire stick. Long live the loundness button!
The loudness curve (also known as the Fletcher-Munson curve) was arrived at by Harvey Fletcher and Wilden A. Munson. They only used men when doing their testing (this was back in the 1930s), so women (who typically have much better hearing than men) often don't like how music sounds with the loudness button on.
I recommend you try some vintage NAD gear like a 3020, 3150 or even a 7240. Hearing the sound you like is in line with my tastes as well and I love the NAD sound from the 70’s/80’s.
You should try an Onkyo amp. They are very tonally balanced without sounding too bloated or thin, a bit faster, brighter, and crisper than a Marantz, but with a decent amount of body still
@@ufarkingicehole It was well over a year and a half ago and I've auditioned at least a dozen speakers since. Could have been M600, PSB or Elac. Doesn't make it bad, it just didnt work for me. I was surprised because my dislike was immediate and didnt get any better. It must work for someone but I'm obviously the exception.
Dude 40K subs, awesome!!! Try a vintage Nakamichi TA-2A or 4A receiver. They have ample power designed by Nelson Pass and all the loudness and other adjustments you dig. I love mine and have them hocked up to a JBL 530 and another to a pair of JBL L86s. Added a Bluetooth DAC receiver and we are golden…!! Sound is amazing and you don’t run out of power..
Back in the day, I was able to get an entire Nak system thanks to being a Nakamichi sales guy. When you passed their technical test on paper, you could buy their equipment at 75% off retail. Still own it all.
Hi 👋 there 😀. Great "nouveauté" 👏🏿 I'll like only if u review the Onkyo A-9110 😂 (in the current cheap zone best loudness button I've come across). They actually call it " pm bass". And great amp too.👍🏿
Space pen works upside-down, brother! I kept one as part of my every day carry for over 20 years. I've recently found one that I lost about 5 years ago, and it still writes like it did when I first bought it - audiophile grade! LOL!
I constantly use the loudness button on my SONY STR 6040a powered bedroom system as I generally listen to it at lower volumes. After watching your BC Acoustique EX214 review this morning, I was inspired to play with the loudness button and tone controls on my Marantz PM6006 for the first time. What fun! Especially at higher volumes. Tried it out with Blues Traveler, 'Straight On Til Morning', Wide Spread Panic, 'Space Rangler' and the Steve Wilson remix of 'Close To The Edge' by Yes. It put a whole new spin on my Wharfedale Evo 4.1s. Thanks for the advice. If you get the chance, I'd love for you to review the Marantz PM6006 against the BC and the Denon. It's 45 watts into 8 ohms/60 watts into 4 ohms and utilizes a Cirrus Logic CS4398 DAC. Thanks again for the heads up.
I had an AWA 3 in 1 Hifi system. I could record Records onto tape via the loudness button. It made for really great sound in my car. Quiet or loud, the loudness button was always switched on in that system.
Why did loudness circuits disappear? They make too much sense to not exist. Who listens to their stereo at full volume all the time? Not me. Why is it wrong to want it to sound good at lower volumes too?
Another great review Randy! I’m tempted to get one just on the strength of your enthusiasm! Ive got a couple of them space pen gadgets. They’re pretty cool and do work well regardless of your writing position!
As soon as you said "loudness button", i cracked up. I know what you mean. I remember being a kid in the 70s and 80s and using that button completely inappropriately along with the volume all the way up, to make the cerwin vegas rattle the windows in the house. love that loudness button.
I love me a loudness button as well. You Sir, you very excited about this particular loudness button and I truly enjoyed this. Side note, my Father worked with NASA procurement. They did spend a bit over a million dollars to develop the space pen to write in and inverted or gravity-less space. The Russians, just used a pencil. Morale, don't think too hard.
Fun fact: both NASA and the USSR's space programs used pencils. Turns out having a bunch of pencil shavings free floating in space is extremely problematic, so both of them either invented or contacted out pens that can write upside-down.
My favourite old 303r pioneer drove my Jamo BX150a really well and the loudness button boosted it just right. Weird it doesn't say what CSR Chipset it has when it says the DAC and the others.. But being 24bit I'd assume 8645 or something
I want one of these, just emailed the distributor... They are going through an ownership change, the outfit that makes this... This amp has everything I have been looking for, especially the LOUDNESS button.
Yep, my CA-1000 has the best variable loudness control known to mankind. I also have a Nakamichi TA-4A which sounds almost as good as the CA-1000, but has the worst Variable loudness control ever invented.
Just because it's rated down to 2 Ohms, does that necessarily mean it will drive the Maggies ? Don't you still need the watts as well ? Asking because I am genuinely curious. Nice looking amp. Reminds me of old Denon amps from the 80s.
Still like your reviews, even if I don't like the products. I like this amp..........the LOUDNESS button is sorely missed on new receivers and integrated amps. Yamaha used to have the best loudness controls ever, some of their receivers even had bass boost that almost worked like loudness; they even had continuous loudness control knobs on some models!
We lost loudness, tone controls and EQ because we're stupid suckers that believe everything manufacturers and magazines tell us. By eliminating them they could reduce manufacturing cost and complexity while making us think we were hearing something 'purer'. That's just a logical fallacy on so many levels. Numerous unknown variables at the recording, mixing and mastering stages, transcription stage into the media your listening to and biggest influence of all, the sound signature of your room means no one had any idea what the original music sounded like when it was being played. But they deleted those features and suckered us to think its worth it to pay more and get less. Then, they went around and gave it back to us through Room EQ and DSP. Remember 90s car stereos with DSP selections like "bathroom" , "cathedral," "club" etc? Much cheaper to do because its just software and we can be snake-oiled into spending even more to get it. Except now tell me how is this still "pure"? Speaking of which I have never heard a difference between having my tone controls at zero and the Purity button. Or the display off button. Maybe it's me, I'm 52 now but this has been the case since I was in my 20s. Lastly, why you can't replicate loudness button with tone controls is because they hit at different frequencies. Makes sense as a loudness button becomes redundant if you could just do it with tones. However I've been roughly successful to adjust to a room by judicious use of both together, just like you.
Hi cheapaudioman! I would like to know, what is a better choice vs the SVS Prime Wireless SoundBase in therms of sound! Keep the good job and thanks a lot!
I think it looks pretty good, not homely at all lol. I love loudness buttons as well. The receivers I had as a kid always had one. I didn't really know what it did back then, but I knew I liked the way it sounded better with it on, and it always stayed on. 🔊👂Does it have a subwoofer out?

Hey Randy thanks to your recommendation I got both the Klipsch RP-500M and RB-61b ii. I found the rb-61b to be a bit brighter and perhaps a bit wider sounding? Do you still remember which one you liked better?
Hey Randy …Do you ever hook amps up to a phonograph to review the quality of the phonostage? I wonder if most of them are comparable or stand out in that area. Also, did you hook this one up to a CD player to how well that does versus the built in DAC?
@@cheapaudioman Was wondering about the ones built in to some of the amps you have reviewed…but would love to get your take on whether bypassing some of these built into the receivers makes any substantial difference. Looking forward to those reviews.
@@donpettit7107 those are tough because they are Fundamentally all one piece unless they are modular. Same with dacs and such. Really it comes down to how do the different integrated amps sound against each other. Tough to isolate just one component of an integrated. Would be cool though.
Hello Mr. Cheap, BC Acoustique is a company from France. They are going bankrupt. Not a good idea to buy their stuff. This is sad, since they made super sounding products, such as turntable, amplifier (tube and solid state), speaker, etc . . .
Is that high-res No.2 lead? If not, the richness in tone will be lost in my writing. I always perform my writing on a plinth of virgin granite to cut down the flutter, and sharpen the point to an ellipsoid.
Wouldn't make any difference upside down in space there's no upside down lol I think what it is the ink bubbles and doesn't stick to the paper properly doesn't absorb the ink
Hey Randy, would you recommend this for rp600m’s ? I’m looking for an integrated to run these things I got from uncle Jeff when they were going for 370 ish. Maybe the Cambridge axr 100? or the emotiva instead?
I'm running mine on Cambridge cxa61 and a NAD c316bee v2. The nad has tone controls so a plus for rp600ms although I prefer the Cambridge. If I did again I would do the axr100 because I've more or less moved on from the dac streamer functionality that the extra cost of the cxa gives you ... plus the extra watts which would help with my elacs
Idk about why EQ and loudness buttons are not really in style anymore. I do know that my Sony AV receiver from the 90s has treble and bass control which significantly changes the sound even at the lowest levels, in a bad way... Still, I can't see a $600 value for this, but maybe that's because I'm not a true audiophile (read: I'm poor).
Hey Randy. Do you know of any good 3 channel amps that are not receivers? I am Currently running Elac Uni-fi 5.2s and just found a great deal on a PSB vs300 center speaker. I am trying to find a decent amp that can run all three.
How tubular Lee awesome is this fat video! You’re a trip, and I hope you got my message that you’re a very humble person, but that is why everybody wants to run out and buy everything that you recommend because you’re awesome
What do you reckon the cheapest decent amp pairing for a pair of proac tablett 10s would be? I know to get the most out of them you've gotta spend a bit but what kind of mid range amp will pair well with them untill I can save up to get a better amp?
@Goes 2 Eleven there's some interesting suggestions. Nice. The Yamaha as301, 501, 701? They're interesting. I'm gonna keep it all British with the amp I'm saving up for (Sugden a21 signature) but a Japanese one is probably better bang for the buck if it's a midrange amp. That's probably the way to go I reckon. Thanks for the suggestions.
Randy, My CD of The Black Album remaster came yesterday! Did you get yours yet? Amazon says my cassette copy will come next month. I'm listening to it on my Luxman system which has a Loudness knob not a button.
Doesn't state where it was made. Made in China? which at that price isn't a concern. Most are. Seems to be priced right for all it gives you but I'd rather have an amp that does really well and hookup peripherals to it...dac, phono stage, whatever I need. A quality, really great sounding amp with at least 2 RCA inputs, an XLR and a pre-out would be sufficient. Sub out with var freq cutoff choice icing. Why include a dac when there are so many good ones out there? Put the $$$ in amplification and the pre section.
@@williamnaman3570 I just thought there's no point asking, since those two are quite a step apart in terms of depicting submarine life. Didn't mean any sort of drama.
Loudness . Brilliant Audio file knobb.... loudness destroys the sound It's all about choice manufactures listen up to this advice put the loudness button on if people don't want to use it don't f****** use it 🎸🎸🎸
