Fatwood Gold Mine Behind my New Property 

I like a man who gets excited when he finds fatwood.

Great score in the root mass..we have a forest of it here at 4000 ft up sierra Nevada mountains here in Californias side...im a major prepper and learning survival skills daily..We The People know what coming... Thanks for the great video knowledge..Were also raising chickens now..just bought 15 more chicks and a rooster..total of 24 now.. Something to rhink about others doing for self preservation.

I can literally smell this video...might be smelling myself tho as I just sawed up the main stem of a huge dead pine tree that my neighbor gave me...makes great outdoor working firewood, gets the barrel glowing.

Gold mine of Fatwood

Why don't more people use a walking stick? Besides all its other uses, it's great for fatwood hunting, especially now, in snake season. If I see something i think might contain fatwood, I give it a few whacks with the stick. The sound will tell you whether there's any there. And no need to go reaching down towards something where a snake might be-- you never realized how well camouflaged a snake can be until you nearly grab one while staring right at it, as I once did while cleaning up the debris from an old barn demolition. That being said-- great find! There's nothing better than exposed roots for a real fatwood mother lode-- I found something similar a couple years ago; an old pine which had pulled up its roots as it fell. The tree was now nothing but punkwood, but the roots were solid, crystallized fatwood, solid black and orange. EDIT: oh btw, at about 6:15-- that orange, punky wood is usually very good, too, being saturated with pitch itself, just to a lesser degree. I had a Coleman saw, then tried a Lowe's Razortooth ($20) folder and got rid of the Coleman. As much as you enjoy fatwood hunting, get yourself a saw that works 3 X better with big aggressive teeth. You have quite a haul, and plenty more on the ground. Thanks for a well done video.

Really, please clean some up and go to work sanding them up smooth. They stand unusually cool, they look awesome around the house, and they smell good. And they're just cool.

I've been collecting fatwood and cleaning it up and sanding it from 60-150-800-1500-2000-2500 grit, and it's really beautiful to just sit around the house.

When you injure yourself and you have some fatood, shave some fine Maya dust and put on it the cut thick, it will stop the bleeding, it works for me every time.

go 80, 120, 220, 800, 1200, 2500, 6k,8k,12k sanding on clean pieces. you'll get beautiful knots that are mirrored and sand in peculiar angles. You can even stop at 2k or 2.5k. 6/8/12/k is just out of obsession

SAFETY FIRST! 6:10 you're striking towards your thigh and knee. Not a good idea, especially with fatwood, where you're likely to hit a rock-hard surface unexpectedly, which can easily deflect even the most carefully handled blade. I enjoyed your video and would like to see more, so please stay safe.

Was this a fallen tree, I see their are cut limbs. If a fallen tree, where is the tree? I'm in Fl and having trouble finding Fat Wood, we have lots of Pine, most are cut down for line work.

if I want a body guard, he must be able to push down a tree like you do, what will you do with all that that fat wood? sell it?
