Short video on repairing a Laser-Level tool. This is quite an expensive bit of kit and rendered useless by a cheap component. The repair would have been very difficult given the lack of information, but thanks to a picture search an information trail appeared. The small Buck-Boost controller on the power supply board had cooked to the point no part numbers were visible. Even if it had been it wouldn’t have provided the full part number that turned up in the search. With this type of fault there is always the risk of something else faulty too. In this instance just the small SMT board fuse had blown with the device failing. From the description of how the fault occurred being the result of the unit being left on until the battery depleted and other searches I wonder if there is an issue in the design.
