In response to the first comment, I find it sad that the writer’s appreciation of the quintet is enhanced in light of depreciating the Requiem. Both pieces convey the delicacy of Faure’s musical imagination. One senses that he does not travel towards the transcendent, but resides there. He shares the glimmers, the faint yet powerful light within and beyond his musical sand castle-fine grained sand that is carried by the strings, swirls and stirs our spirits, is deposited daintily, here and there, by piano, shifting keys-I cannot analyze, I only know that when listening, I want to fly, flitter, alight;some day soar.
@@petermerelis True but unfortunately in today's Britain culture of any sort is sneered at and denigrated and classical music is probably the main victim. Just look at the way the Trojan Horse has well and truly entered the BBC Proms.
