Hello Irit, loved the video 💕and I always appreciate that your thoughts and advice are always well thought out and you only recommend your favourites that you truly use and love. And thank you so much for the Watercolour Shopping Guide 💕- so sweet and generous of you. After having watched you for sooo many years 😉 I have taken your advice on many of the colours and tools and brands I have purchased and I have learnt to take time to really make up my mind before hastily jumping in and buying - all through watching and listening to you. Thank you! Have a lovely weekend, 🌈🎨 Valérie xx

love the finished painting! I so enjoy your video's. I definitely going to try the paper. I also just found out that Moonglow is fugitive :( And then I found Kimberly Crick Art on youtube and she has a 3 part series (?) about Moonglow and one of the videos is about making your own. Might be a good inspiration for mixing your own. Looking forward to see the next video!

I lso use Hahnemuhle, but bought theit anniversary packs. It has the same weight (I think) as Cornwall. Also loving the paper. It seesm sleeker than normal coldpress, but it behaves so nicely with my paints. It\s just so nice to find cellulosepaper that works, seeing as cotton is kind of to expensive to just play with.
@iritlandgraf
@iritlandgraf 3 года назад
Good to know! I completely agree and I think depending on what techniques one uses this paper can be a fantastic affordable alternative not just for play but also for "proper" artwork.

DaVinci Artemis could be a substitute for Moonglow. It has the same pigment formula and an excellent lightfast rating. It may be harder to get in Europe, but worth a look.

I think is stil contains the same red pigment as moonglow and doesn't hold up well in the sun, despite the rating. If I remember correctly Kimberly Crick has a video about all of those similar colors and shows her lightfastness test results. 🙂

I adore your art and could watch you paint all day. Thank you for the video. I'm wondering if you might like Shadow Violet Light? It's a newer release from Szmal and I think it is more blue than Shadow Violet and it doesn't contain any black.

Glad you like it Ema! Yes, the Van Gogh version is quite different. It is lighter and more like a pinky peachy skin tone, whereas the Lukas one is a warm yellow orange.

Love the video! I enjoy watching you create as I am trying to get back to looser watercolors after a year of detailed botanicals. Have you ever tried gouache paints? Very different from watercolor but an interesting medium to explore. I only just received mine so not too sure about them yet. It's a medium I'll have to experiment with before I get used to it. Hope you and family are all well. Happy painting my friend.

Thank you Renee! I have a nice collection of Gouache and I think it's a fantastic medium. I have mostly used mine like watercolors till now. I hope to learn to use them more in the future but right now I'm really into what you see in the video, so maybe next year 😉 or I will incorporate them into my current routine, that would be fun actually 😀

Hi Irit! So...regarding a replacement for Opera, have you tried Dan Smith’s Quin Pink? It’s pretty close, given it can’t be “fluorescent” AND lightfast. I also really love the earthy granulation of Rhodonite; it’s got to be the brightest Primatek ever! Let me know if you want me to send you sample pans...I’ve got both on hand. (I think...unless one of the girls yanked my Q. Pink 🤦🏻‍♀️) Please do lmk if I can send you some! PS - Can you give me a compelling reason to NEED Schmincke? I’ve built up a big stock of DS...more than anyone NEEDS, but the sale at Jackson’s is making me twitchy... 🤗
@iritlandgraf
@iritlandgraf 3 года назад
Thank you so much, but I have a tube of Rhodonite and a pan of quin Pink, I love QUIN Rose but should probably try pink again 😀 I cannot give you a compelling reason. Schmincke is a beautiful paint, that I myself no longer buy since it's not vegan. It is also really expensive outside of Europe. For me, nowadays, when I have a vast collection, the only reason to try a new brand is if they have unique colors or a beautiful version and formula of a specific color I enjoy. Hope that helps and thanks again!!

Hi Irit, thanks for this and your guide...Wondering what ever happened to your Aquarius Roman Smalz paint...did you not just like them because they have honey, do they not flow...I wondered your honest opinion. Also, could you recommend or did you in another video...some museum aquarelle colours worth trying...I do not see them mentioned here as your favourites I would love to know some of your fauvourite colours to pick up that you like....thanks Irit. bytw..."Botany for the Artist an inspriatioanl guide to drawing plants."..by Sarah Simblet 2010...I got from the library here in the Yukon...you might like it if you could first see it at your library...I am working through it...I may buy it...realistic but very cool illustrations...Jans
@iritlandgraf
@iritlandgraf 3 года назад
Hi Jan! Yes I mentioned some favourite colors in previous videos and have been using the same this month. Like green ochre, burnt sienna 10%. I think the aquarius paints are great, they have a few duds but nothing unusual that other brands don't have. It's mostly because they are full pans and so take a lot of space in my palette so if I have a similar paint in half pan I pick that one.
