I’m not personally familiar with the Lynx, but most of these games remind me of a lot of shareware DOS games I had back in the day. The color pallete, music, sprite work, and game complexity all seemed very close to games my dad would bring home for me to play on the computer. And it makes sense, as these games came out around the same time. On an unrelated note, have you visited the National Video Game Museum in Frisco? I know this place would be right up your alley and make a cool video if you’re allowed to record anything in there. For anyone reading this comment, it’s a retro-lover’s paradise that I highly recommend checking out!
Yep they definitely have that feel for sure, a lot of them were from Epyx who basically made the Lynx. Epyx has a 6 game collection coming to the Switch April 24th for $12. And yep, I know of that museum especially living in Texas, I will be going there this summer and fingers crossed I can record 🤞🏼

I only had three games back in the day, but I loved every one of them; Tournament Cyberball 2072, Basketbrawl, and Rygar. I remember really wanting NFL Football, but I never got it back then. Now I have an almost complete retail set with quite a few homebrews. Some of my favorites are Crystal Mines II, Chip's Challenge, Rampart, Ninja Gaiden, Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom, Shadow of the Beast, Shanghai, Klax, California Games, Desert Strike, Toki, Super Off Road, Qix, Super Asteroids & Missile Command, Battlezone 2000, and the aforementioned NFL Football.
NFL football was good for what it was, I loved how you could flip the Lynx in Tate mode and play it that way! So amazing to hear you have an almost complete set, it really is one of my favorite libraries and I love that people are still making games for it in the homebrew scene!!! Heck yeah I love the Lynx! I'm with you on all of these. Great games. That Dracula game in particular is a great slow burn adventure. Didn't like it as a kid but I love it now!
I just got my Atari Lynx recapped, new speaker, so I have audio now, AND just got a multi cart for it... Being able to FINALLY play this hand held after having it for 2 years, this video is great!!!

Great selection of games👍🏻the only one I have not played is the Dracula game, the 3d effect and the depth of the rooms is really impressive. And I love the sound of the lynx that great Atari sound. 👍🏻😎.

I've always wanted an atari lynx back in the day. I remember playing one recently at long Island retro gaming expo. It had a vga cable mod so it could be played on a television. I currently have an adapter for the analogue pocket that can play lynx games. I have yet to buy a game for it but I seen some cheap titles I can start with like apb. I remember lynx had other games like pit fighter, ninja Gaiden, vindicators and roadblasters.
Yeah I think most people go the emulation route these days, Evercade has two nice collections and this week on the Switch you can get the 6 game Epyx collection for $12. It’s a great library with over 76 games but of course like most libraries there are some that are up there in price now but a lot of the titles are still pretty cheap to collect for, happy hunting my friend! There was supposed to be an enhanced version of Gates of Zendocon ported to the Jaguar, but it was ultimately cancelled due to a lack of internal interest within Atari 😭
Wow, I have never even heard of the Lynx until today. You nailed it with it being an upgrade to the GameBoy. Colour Screen? 😮 That side scrolling shooter looks fun. The ship reminds me of Gradius. And the perspective for Blue Lightning looks revolutionary for the time, kind of pseudo 3D. That was impressive. Good vid, it was educational for me.

Rob, you may of just timed this video perfectly. I just check out what's new on Switch and on the 25th April 2024 there are 6 Atari Lynx games from Epyx being released in one bundle. No Chips Challenge as it's already on Switch and no Checkered Flag but the rest are there. Lol. 😀

I remember getting the lynx when it first came out. Ninja Gaiden arcade port was great. Todd's adventure in slime world was fun. Kung Food was kinda frustrating to play. It was so hard. After seeing this video I remembered I still have my lynx and all those games. I actually like that handheld system. Oh and Rygar isn't bad either. Now I have to pull it out of the storage box I put it in when I moved. Glad you did a review on it.

Another excellent video my friend! Man that BMX game looks hard. I think it would frustrate me to the point where I probably wouldn’t play it. Those 3/4 views tend to be difficult in general. I really enjoyed this one. I’m not very familiar with the lynx. The graphics and gameplay really surprised me! I’d be interested to know why it wasn’t more successful.
Hey Dean! Well it was Atari lol, they’ve always had issues with marketing and sales. Besides the Turbo Express it was a very expensive handheld (due to the color backlit screen) and waaaaaay ahead of its time! It was competing against the likes of the Game Boy (Very affordable/huge library!) and the cheaper Sega Game Gear….it honestly never stood a chance and it’s small (although I think great) library could not compete either. These games can be found now on digital collections like the Evercade and there is a 6 game collection out now on the Switch for $12, most people just emulate as well. You have a really soothing voice. :) Lynx is a fun system. Not sure if you mentioned it, but it was developed by Epyx, which is why they made so many of the games.

Nostalgic with this system, first system I purchased saving all my tips from a paper route! Other gems I’d say is Road Blasters and Slime World. Glad you got Xenophobe in there, that games epic too!
Never had the Lynx, it had some games I wanted to play, so I bought both versions of the Blaze Super Pocket and both Atari Lynx collections, that have 17 games on Vol. 1 and 8 on Vol. 2.
Well most of these titles are on the Evercade and Epyx has a collection coming to the Switch this month, games in my vid will be on that collection also with the exception of two 🤷🏼♂️

I had almost all of the Epyx games on the Apple // back in the day. Yeah, I'm that old. and the Apple // was my second PC. lol
California games lol. I'll share one thing with you... The ball/sack game, when the ball is in the air pull down on the d-pad and the guy will spin like crazy. This will make the combo meter next to your score rise rapidly and the more you can keep the ball going + spinning the bigger the rewards. BMX & Skateboarding would take to long to go into detail but can be mastered with practice. Have fun with the ball/sack game though as it will now spice things up in-between messing around with the others. 😊

@@retrobeliever Now that I have completed the video lol, Hope you picked up the Atari Lynx carts for the Evercade, they are now Legacy carts and prices on eBay are crazy. My fav was Slime World, I also enjoyed Rygar but wish it was more challenging like the arcade. I liked loads of Lynx games tho, it had more good than bad games which is super rare for any machine. I was playing Crystal Mines 2 only yesterday, trying to remember what the arrow on screen was, it's the way gravity works lol. Fun game! Thanks for sharing some of you faves! 🙂👍

It’s pretty great, the library is one of my favorites because they’re not graphically the strongest but in terms of fun…amazing! Emulation makes it easy for people to play as well if you’re not looking to buy/collect 🤷🏼♂️
Okay, I am not trying to depress you, but _if you dare to compare_ Gates of Zendocon to the top five Sega Game Gear titles in the same genre… in my opinion… honestly… the Game Gear library is just _so much better._ Again, not trying to depress you: in 2024, it is not an "either/or" decision, you can have both. You can certainly own them all, even if you can't afford the time to actually _play_ them all.
Well you can’t depress me because I’m not comparing this to other systems lol. The Lynx was unique with its own history, these are just the games I love and got one when I was into the Lynx 🤷🏼♂️ A Game Gear vid though will be on the horizon my friend!
