I did lots of research on Napoleon while I was reading "War and Peace" and became a huge fan of his. I'm really looking forward to the movie. Great video, Jenny.
The adam zamoyski book (1812 Napoleons fatal march on moscow) is probably my favourite book about Napoleon and the period. I always hesitate to give you any book recommendations because I'm worried they'll bore you death and I'll be responsible, but i think this is a must read!
I recently picked up the book 1812 by Adam Zamoyski as part of a Russian history deep dive I'm doing in 2024. The more I do some research, the more I want to dive into Napoleon too so this video popped up at the perfect time. I will go back and find the other video you mentioned about your year of Napoleon. Both biographies sound good.
There is a Russian writer, Merezhovsky, who did write historical fiction about many things that interest you. First, it's a biography of Napoleon, but his most important is another book, his trilogy about some very famous historical people. The first book was about Emperor Julian of Rome, who tried to stop Christianity. The name of that book is The Death of Goods. The second is set in reinessance, and its name is The Resurrection of Gods about Da Vinci, Savonarola, and many other famous people from that time. In the end, there is The Antichrist, Peter the Great, who killed his son. Hope these books are translated to English.
I found this very interesting Jenn after seeing the movie before about this made me understand abit more about him and what book to start off if want to read about first .if want to know more about him . Thank you ❤
Do you have favorite nonfiction about either the Bolshevik revolution or Winston Churchill? Those two subjects have a lot of interest for me but it’s tough finding anyone with an opinion about books on these topics
I recently purchased The Age of Napoleon by Christopher Herold and read the first chapter, but I read while at my sister's so I had too many distractions to really read it. That's funny that he stole those art pieces and brought them to France.
I have both the Roberts and Zamoyski biographies. I already had the Zamoyski one on audiobook but knew I wanted the physical book, too, when I read it. The trailer for Napoleon dropped and literally the next day I went to B&N looking for the book and bought the Roberts one. I ended up having to order the Zamoyski one online. Anyway, I totally planned on at least starting one this month but at the moment I have other things on my plate. But also I am physically unable to get to them unless I want to move a few hundred movies laid out on my floor in front of where they are. I've been redoing another room and am waiting for the rest of my shelf brackets to arrive, so everything is crowding my bedroom rn. There's still next month, though!
I thought about putting down the Zamoyski book so I could see the film without recent knowledge of the historical events--I think it might be more enjoyable that way, lol. though I def don't expect historical accuracy from Ridley Scott. maybe you'll get to it by the end of the year! room rearranging is so fun!
@jenniferbrooks I've also heard the movie is quite satirical from some early reviews. I don't know much about Napoleon so idk how to feel about that, if that's a good take/angle. But I definitely wasn't expecting to hear that based on the trailer and previous Ridley Scott historical dramas. Yes, I repainted and everything! I'll have a totally different room when I'm done with it 🎉
