Thanks for doing the tag and thanks for the lovely comments in the video. You've made a big impression on here very quickly!! - one answer for these prompts is madness but it's great to chat about it anyway. Love that you like Bradbury and Chambers. Science Fiction is enormous and you'll find so much out there that you love.

Hi Gareth! This was a wonderful tag, and I loved it. I can never come up with one answer for the questions on any of these tags, but I especially couldn't do it for this one. It's not a bad thing, though, to have a lot of favorite people, right? I didn't want to leave anyone out. Thank you for making this tag and for being such a force for GOOD in the world. Have a wonderful day, my friend.

Thank you so much for responding to this Pat! All great answers! I absolutely love Judi Dench! So glad you're getting into science fiction. It is a great genre. So wonderful to hear about your father and mother. It seems you inherited a lot of great qualities from each of them. And what a story about your paternal grandmother. She was quite the lady! Funny enough, my mother nicknamed me Linus when I was a little boy because I always carried a blanket with me around the house.

Hi Pat! I'm Tammy. I'm a high school librarian and I've been enjoying your videos for a while now. Fantastic job with this tag! You spoke beautifully about your parents - I love your statement that you've always had conversations with your dad in your head as an adult. ❤ And I love that your favorite female musicians are the Indigo Girls as they are also mine! I love their harmony and how they often put literary references into their music. Your English class would have been a favorite of mine had I had you in high school!

Hi Tammy! Thank you so much for this lovely comment and for introducing yourself to me. A high school librarian! You have my complete respect. What general part of the country are you in? Sorry for the delay in responding to your post, Pat! I'm on Spring Break this week, which for me means lots of appointments to go to that's sometimes hard to fit in while school is in session. I've been a school librarian since 2002. I worked for nine years at a private school (grades 7-12) located in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. I'm currently near the end of my 8th year as a school librarian for a tiny public high school (grades 8 - 12) located in rural western Virginia, about 30 miles from the West Virginia border. Fortunately, I've never had to deal with a book challenge, probably because the schools I've worked for have been so tiny. It can always happen though, especially in this political climate. Most preK-12 schools and school systems should have a reconsideration of materials policy and procedure in place should they receive complaints from parents or the community about the materials on library shelves. It's one thing to deal with one parent who doesn't want their child to read something from the library -it's a lot scarier and more concerning when a group of parents or others want to ban one or more books from the library entirely so that no students have access. The horror stories I hear on the news regarding systematic banning of books in school libraries and classrooms breaks my heart. Students are never helped by book banning, only harmed. And every book ever written contains some idea that's controversial - that's the point of books to begin with! If you're going to ban books, you might as well close every school and public library and just make reading a crime - that's how ridiculous to me all this book banning is.

@@purplepumpkin6894 I'm sorry that I am just now seeing your response! (There has to be a better way for RU-vid to alert people to additional comments! My apologies!) I am glad that you haven't had to deal with these book challenges that seem to be so rampant. And yes, of course, that doesn't mean that you won't have to deal with them. I agree completely with everything that you are saying. Since I have been doing this Read 24 Banned Books in 2024 Challenge, I have been appalled at what I've discovered, and I've also been pretty viciously attacked here in my comments by people purporting to be "protectors of children" and, in one case, a supposed church minister spewed real vitriol in his attack of me. Talk about hypocrisy! These are scary times. You have my respect for doing the important work that you are doing!

Hi Pat! I'm so sorry for my nearly month-long delay in responding to your post. And I'm so very sorry that you've been attacked on your channel for discussing "banned" or "challenged" books. I doubt these people realize that the American Library Association and state library associations are, and always have been, opposed to book-banning. Thank you for your beautiful and thoughful reviews of these books! And you're retired, so you should be able to say whatever you want on your channel!

I'm glad that I reached out to tell you that I had tagged you. I don't really get how these notifications work--at all. If someone tags me, I usually only know if I happen to have seen/heard their video. I don't think I get notifications either. But I did recently discover the "Mentions" category in RU-vid Studio. That's where I learned that some people had mentioned me in their notes to their videos. But I found it totally by accident. In RU-vid Studio, if you click on COMMENTS, there is also a section there for MENTIONS. This was a new find for me! Anyway, I will look forward to seeing your responses to this tag. It was a fun one to do! And I think it would be such fun if you and "That Dude" both did it. I just love how you do these videos together!

Clifford Simak isn't as well known as his contemporary Ray Bradbury. My favorite books by him are City and The Way Station. The Burroughs John Carter books did not impress me, but his Tarzan books are ruthlessly enchanting to me, especially the paperbacks with the great art by Neal Adams. I'd recommend J.G. Ballard, Cordwainer Smith, Gene Wolfe, Harlan Ellison, and Michael Moorcock, some of my favorite writers in the genre (although Ellison would take offense at being categorized: he walked off a t.v. interview when he was introduced as a "science fiction writer" instead of just a "writer." Harlan:)
