I would love to take more steelhead trips! :) I do have one planned for this fall that I plan on filming. As long as things go well I should have a video or 2 from that trip.
I just tied a few of these up a few weeks back but just in pink. Haven't been out to try them yet. I have some yellow beads and ill add them to the pink estaz for the 2 tone.
Congrats. I just did the drawing and you were the winner of the 6 Green Eggs & Ham. Send me an email (bryan_spinner@yahoo.com) and I'll get info to mail them to you. Thanks for being a subscriber and following our channel!
Yeah... you don't need to go as far to the back of the hook if you're not using a bead. Ultimately, you want it sort of egg shaped with a little opposite color on one end.
You have to make sure you click the notifications bell. Even if you are subscribed, you have to hit that bell to be notified when I publish videos. I just published one tonight as well (Steelhead Vol 3).
Hey Joe! Spring steelhead to me is when the snow melts and water temps start warming. As soon as the steelhead break out of winter mode and start getting more active and digging around, that is spring steelhead to me. This year, I would say it starts now!
Interestng pattern. Reaĺly windy and cold here today. Gonna fire up the wood stove and tie some of these up! Thanks. Also, planning on teying euro nymph rod on smallmouth this aummer and would like to see some patterns and techniques.
I’m certainly going to look into getting the supplies for this fly. Should work great for those Steelies that are either going onto the redds or coming off of them and dropping back. Now I need to ask you, have you tried other colors for this fly? I like the colors you are using but I always like to have more of a color variety in my steelhead box. Would you recommend some other color combinations to try? Thank you for this very nice flytying tutorial. You have no idea how easy you are making it for the beginner flytyers and the seasoned ones as well. Especially in what materials. We could spend alot of money just going to a flyshop blind. As always, thank you and tightlines to ya! 😊
My go to fly for years was a pink globug with a flame orange dot. I've also tied a lot of pink estaz flies. My box has pink, orange and chartreuse estaz. This fly and the pink glo bug are the ones that get used most... besides the pink squirmy of course 😂😂😂
@@WhiteDogTrailCompany Oh boy, there it is again! That’s it, I’m going to tie a few dozen of those wormy critters and they’re going in my steelhead fly box and regular trout fly boxes. There. 😛 😆
Love the video! Thank you for the stealhead fly! Request: TJ hooker (barbless if possible). My local shop has these and they work great as a hybrid stonefly/ streamer. I want to tie my own. Thanks
I have 2 fly tying videos of the sexi stone and the sexi stone bomb. They're in my fly tying playlist which is here. ru-vid.com/group/PLuLwf7ym7i7ZKJSrh7WP-pftvhmwIytMK
It totally depends on the type of water you're fishing. I was mostly fishing unweighted flies on the last trip because I didn't have any weighted versions with me. I would typically recommend tying several in varying weights so you can cover different types of water conditions. So maybe some unweighted for shallow areas, 3.3mm and some 5.5mm for deeper or faster runs. Then you could always add split shot if you had to adjust even more.
In NE Ohio we get big numbers into the rivers starting in October, while you can get into them as well as you can in late winter/early spring and we start really hitting it in the fall, generally speaking the run is best in february and March. That being said, I've had buddies killing them on spawn bags or egg flies early as october despite our strains not being early spawning. And Dammit, ive got chenille in that green color but not eztaz.
Big migratory steelhead are so much fun! Glad you have easy access to them where you are! Egg flies work very well on them! Especially if you get salmon runs before the steelies.
Im curious if i can make this with ice dubbing as ive got pink estaz but not green, only green chenille. And idk how we lived before solarez. I love bone dry but im only about six months into my tying journey, and I've not learned how to avoid a kinda cloudy effect in my uv resin wing cases
I do have the sexi stonefly and the sexi stonefly bomb on the channel. I also created a playlist of all of the fly tying videos so you can find what you want easily. ru-vid.com/group/PLuLwf7ym7i7ZKJSrh7WP-pftvhmwIytMK
