We can see why you are so enthusiastic about those! We're just imagining all the lucky artists opening their new supplies this season. We think every artist can remember one amazing set of paint, pencils, markers or crayons they got at an early age that sent them on their journey in art!

Those Neocolors are my FAVE! If you haven't tried them yet, you really must! Although I tend to use them dry. I don't really like water-soluble materials - watercolor is just so much better. But the Neocolors are a luscious dry medium - so pigmented! Have a great new year!

I would love to hear how you planned to handle a difficult (read: way too many details) building or view. I have seen all of your vacation videos but would like to see a video you talk about them in detail and maybe recreate one of them 🙈 I cannot pick favorite art supplies as they tend to change as I love experimenting.

Hello, my friend! Happy New Year! My favorite art supply in 2022 was my 12-pan, DaVinci watercolor set. I did my entire August, watercolor month 30-day challenge using these 12 colors, even the white when I needed a peachy skin tone. I know you don't need more watercolors but if you're looking for something new to review on your channel... It's wonderful to see your channel growing. I am amazed at your ability to create, especially while you travel! I am looking forward to seeing what you come up with in 2023...

An unexpected fave art supply for me this year was Arteza gouache. I for sure didn't need any more gouache, but I bought the big set of 60 tubes, and found them a lot easier to manage than my jelly gouache set. They're almost like acryla gouache, because you can layer them a lot without too much lifting, but they also were amenable to being gently blended with a damp brush after they dried. I also love my Neocolor I crayons (the NOT watercolor crayons). They're like kids crayons, but beautifully silky, especially on a smooth surface like Bristol board. I have a set of the Neocolor II crayons as well, and I like them too -- but the Neocolor I's are so fun to use! I know what you mean about cheap pencils: my favorite drawing pencil is a Papermate Sharpwriter!

I LOVE Roman Szmal paints. I have their travel pallet of 12 half pans. It was very reasonably priced on Jackson's at the time. I've been adding colors to it here and there. Their Mineral Violet and Ocean Blue are really pretty. So is their Ultramarine Pink! 😯 My favorite brushes right now have to be the Creative Mark Mimik brushes and Princeton Neptune. Another favorite are the Hannemule 100% cotton sketchbooks. I don't think I'll ever use another brand.

This might be surprising but Jackson's watercolor block blew my mind, I bought the small hot press size, 10x12 cm, and I'm almost done with it I think I only have one sheet left. Also the stay wet palette that I bought because of you 😉 I had to stay at my mom's house for a couple of months and couldn't bring many stuff so the palette with cheap gouache, and a small Fabriano block really made my stay much much happier and that's it has to be my favorite supply from this year 💖

Your watercolor florals and travel pieces are so lovely. The colors are so vibrant. I especially love the yellow and blue anemones(?) on the blue background. And your work in gouache is beautiful . I have the set of 12 Holbein gouache but haven’t worked with it much, in part for the very same reasons you mentioned about the set up. I’m adding the stay wet palette you recommended to my wishlist 😊. I also agree as to the paper. I bought some Canson XL as many RU-vidrs highly recommend it, but I’m really not loving it. I also have a Strathmore cellulose sketchbook which I really don’t. Care for but feel compelled to complete it. Weird, I know, so I’m using it now to mostly test things out as well as doodling and sketching. I find myself often feeling discouraged when painting on either of those cellulose papers. Always looks a bit chalky and like I was using poster paint instead of watercolor. Granted, I know that I can’t place all the blame on the paper (as much as I’d like to, haha). I’ve still got lots and lots to learn, so much can be attributed to that. The good part is that it makes me more determined to do better. But, the cotton paper - wow, what a difference. I definitely enjoy painting on it more and find the results much more encouraging. I’ve bought both the regular Baohong and the Baohong Academy and really like them both. I got them both from Temu and the price was good. They also sell it in packages of loose sheets which were even more economical. Thanks for an enjoyable and informative video. I love seeing people’s favorite supplies and your enthusiasm for this medium is contagious 😊.😊

Thank you so much for watching and sharing. I’ve just tried the canson paper and I didn’t like it either… I’m going to gift it to a friend who does like the paper lol I suggest also trying to use the papers for other media / types of art / experiments/ drills etc and making time to use the nice paper you enjoy. Anything that helps lower the barrier to creating lol. I often find my gouache will work nicely on the paper I don’t enjoy for watercolours…knowing that lets me enjoy the nice watercolour paper guilt free xx

If you like the Jackson's Raven Mop brush, you'll love their Icon Quill brushes. Same brush design and coiled ferrule, but the Raven is synthetic squirrel which is why it's very soft and doesn't hold a sharp point, while the Icon line is synthetic sable, so they can hold a sharp point and provide greater line variation. The sizes range from 10/0 through #6. If I could only use one brush ever, it would be an Icon Quill 3/0; very versatile and holds an amazing fine point while still having a belly full of water and paint. If you decide to try them, I hope that you will review and share your thoughts!

Love your videos. I am glad someone agrees that a brush for gouache is different than a brush for watercolor. I find that synthetics work better and that gouache is rough on natural bristles. If you have a water brush, you might want to try that with gouache but without putting water in the handle. I use a lot of watercolor pencils and those are great hydrating my watercolor pencil drawings. I also find that Qor watercolor is my favorite because they rewet so well (even the Viridian) and because unlike other watercolors, there’s almost no color shift when they dry. I hope you have a great New Year and I’m looking forward to more videos!

Love this round-up of your favs, Sketches. Likewise, I've been using better papers and it makes soooo much difference. That said, Cellulose papers have their place, as I've found my Inktense pencils are great on Cellulose. Maybe it's just me as I was playing and enjoying it. I've put your sketchbook recommendations on my wishlist... yet, I'm loving Stillman & Birn papers; Jackson's sell samples of Stillman & Birn paper weights and colour tones cheaply which is brilliant, so I think I've found my preferred sketchbooks. That said, I buy imperial full sheets of arches hot pressed and cold pressed and cut to size (making my own sketchbooks with the cinch machine, which also saves quids). I think I really need to try out Roman's watercolours, especially the granulating colours, because they are more economical. My favourite art supplies this year are Neocolour watercolour crayons. I've been haing a blast! I've been enjoying using mixed media in my sketchbooks... watercolour paint, neocolour crayons, watercolour pencils, coloured pencils, and white gouache for highlights. Still learning what works for me and streamlining the kit for urban sketching, but still take too much on location, lol. Anywho, have a happy Christmas, or happy Holiday, Sketches xxx

I can't believe I'm just getting your video suggested now... I love your art style so much, you explain things so well and concisely, you're well organized (thank you for using chapters omg so helpful), and the videos you've linked (like the travel tips) would have been SO helpful to me when I was looking for those tips earlier this year!! Also you use almost the same exact supplies as I do so I seriously can't believe I've only now found you. So glad I've found this video now🤗 Never subscribed so fast💛 P.S. the barrier you described with using your W&N gouache is exactly what I've been feeling, so you might have just convinced me to look for this palette😊 Edit: omg I'm only a little over halfway through the video and we have some of the same favorite supplies! I'm using W&N gouache, I love my reliable Daniel Smith paints (and I have nearly the same colors which is crazy), gotta have that cotton paper with organic texture instead of weird grids, and I have tried several brushes but I always go for my Aqua Elites (I have size #2 and #6 which I love, but I've been eyeing the #12). You have impeccable taste😉😆 This means I clearly have to try R.S. paints and all the other supplies and colors you love because the similarities in taste are uncanny🙈 Edit 2: Since you asked, some of my favorite art supplies❤(I'll stick to ones you don't already have hehe): - I'm obsessed with Holbein Jaune Brilliante No. 2 (it's a gorgeous peach that would be great as a rosy Naples yellow when thinned out, but also ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS when in a gradient or mixed with a quinacridone rose) - although I love the accessibility of dried watercolor pans, I've been exploring M. Graham colors in tubes (they're made with honey so they don't dry down completely in most climates) and they're beyond creamy and they spread so well on paper it's a dream. So I make an exception for those paints and use them from the tube. My favorite color is their quinacridone rose (I like it even better than the Daniel Smith quin rose!) - I love the color Indanthrone blue in watercolor. If you haven't tried it yet you HAVE TO, trust me. It's a beautiful single pigment deep blue that just has a certain glow. (Some companies call it Anthraquinoid Blue) - Daniel Smith Quinacridone Burnt Orange (I was so obsessed with it when I bought I literally made an entire monochromatic painting with it) - for opacity, Holbein Permanent White gouache is awesome (I use it instead of bleed proof white for details on watercolor paintings) - I love my Portable Painter as my travel palette. The water cups attaching on the sides make it really useful to hold or set on your lap outside. It's just a pretty cool invention if you haven't heard of it by any chance.

Work has been a bit crazy and I just know I’ll open it and only get to use it sporadically and it will dry out. I was hoping to see pastels, since they are your thumbnail, but then you only talk about watercolors so I'm a little confused

I had ordered a Strathmore Visual Journal watercolor spiral, A5 5.5" x 8" from Amazon because it was on sale for like $5. Amazon sent me FIFTEEN of them! I quickly checked the receipt and my credit card, but they did only charge me for one, lol I did not notify Amazon. tsk tsk. But they have messed up, smashed up, and gotten so many of my orders wrong that I didn't feel I should have to trouble myself with this mistake, too. One time I ordered a pad of Canson Mi Teintes paper, marked down to $6, but what they sent me was the Mi Tientes pad COVER, with a bunch of generic primary colored card stock.

I know your trying to be interesting but when you keep flopping your hands around with the product in them I can’t see the details of the product. I’m talking about the Pentel mechanical pencil. Lovely Art 🤤
