I'm a RN in Bmore City (in our cities only trauma 1 ED) and we get a lot of gunshot victims/gang related shooting patients. Sometimes all these young men want is someone to listen to them. I sit, listen totally off record. You are right, talking like this is like therapy. Sometimes you gotta get it out. It's sad, like a totally different world they live in. I've had patients dip in the middle of treatment out of fear of retaliation. Baltimore is so bad with gang violence our hospital (University of MD) has their own police dept. Two officers stand guard at the ERs entrance doors w/ semi's.
