No matter what aid is rendered by police or ambulance medical professionals on the scene, it's up to the doctors in the hospital to save you. Once you're in the ER, the doctor does whatever it takes to save you. Police officers are not doctors which is why most of them are instructed not to touch gunshot wound victims. Can't blame police especially if the wounds are severe.
