Great episode. Completely agree with Schanzer’s introductory monologue. Ahmed Fouad Alkhatib is always a good interview. I would like to hear more about Qatar and the threat to cut funding off in June 2023.
I learn so much from FDD's interviews that just isn't reaching me from anywhere else! Many thanks. Alongside Mr. Alkhatib's future plans, another source with name something like Maryan Institute suggested, a couple/few years ago, offering the West Bank Palestinians the chance to trade that land for a chunk of the Sinai Peninsula adjacent to Gaza, so the new Palestinian State could be contiguous, with great Mediterranean beach front and access to water, leaving Judea and Samaria to Israel for a plethora of appropriate reasons, if the Egyptians could be talked into providing that chunk of Sinai for the purpose. Not sure a two state solution should ever be considered, now, but, if it is to be, this does sound like the best way for the Palestinians, and it ties in with the sea and airport extention that Mr. Alkhatib wants to build.
I like Ahmed very much. This is the kind of people we need on the other side. My solution for the day after is to proclaim Gaza as the Palestinian state. All Palestinians living in Judea and Samaria are then given Palestinian citizenship, while maintaing their ability to live where they are as residents under Israeli law. Israel can't give up control of tge high ground in the west bank, nor any part of Jerusalem. But something needs to change. My suggestion is certainly better than what we have now. * Well produced and very informative. Thank you. Shana Tova. *
I don’t think Israel should take on any Palestinian Arab residents. It will ALWAYS cause problems for Israel - indefinitely. I think Israel and the world should have learned that by now it’s only been 100 years. Not sure why people think it’ll magically change. The Arabs of that land, who no one is talking to, do not want two states. They don’t want Israeli residency and to live under Israeli law. Has anyone asked them? Majority will take any opportunity you give them to terrorize Israel and try to tear it apart. Judea/Samaria Arabs will likely have to relocate to any of the other Arab Muslim countries, or if they want to govern themselves they will need to carve out land from Egypt or jordan or Syria. They don’t need to take the only Jewish land. It’s better for BOTH sides if judea/Samaria Arabs relocate outside of Israeli borders. They will stop revolving their lives around senseless killing and therefore have better futures, and israel will be in peace to thrive. Once they drop the idea that they will make progress in eating away at Israel it will be better for everyone.
There’s not going to be two states, not within Israel’s borders. Palestinian Arabs don’t want that. If they want to self govern other land will have to be carved out outside of Israel. No reason to take land away from Israel that Israel already conquered and won back fair and square. I think Israel letting the enemy population as a nice gesture back in 67 and 48 was a big mistake for BOTH sides. The Arabs were not able to move on.
