Thank you so much! Been having shifting issues for 3 months, and fixed it in 3 minutes. One of the best how to old dodge ram videos. TY for letting me know what tools I needed.

Hot damn man I was told stupid crap by others about drilling out the holes and rotating it that way. I didn't want to do that to the tps. I'm getting ready to do this right now thanks for the info 🇺🇸

Thanks Great info .. what is the sensor on the front of the crank above the balancer ?? Oh, mines a 97
@FirstGenDiesel

That would be the crank position sensor . lets the ECM know the engine is running.

Hey man thanks for the great video! What should a guy check if when I move the throttle I get no increase at all in voltage?
@FirstGenDiesel
@FirstGenDiesel 3 года назад
I have never seen one that does nothing. check the connector for corrosion . If you have a friend that has a working TPS you can put it on your engine just to see if replacing it would fix the problem. I don't suggest buying a new one until you know for sure that is the problem. I got a Dorman brand TPS once for $260 and it was worse than the broken factory one. You can not return electrical parts. So I just lost the money spent. If you're not getting voltage to the TPS then you might have a wiring harness problem.
@rich7365
@rich7365 3 года назад
Thanks man! That kind of makes sense because I've been chasing Gremlins for over a year now... Do you know if anyone makes a wiring harness for these trucks anymore

Not sure if anyone will respond but I tried this same exact trick and mine was reading around 5.00 and that was just at the rest spot AND on top of that I couldnt get the volts to come down when I was testing it on my meter

I owned a 97 3500 cab and chassis flat bed and worked it for four years. Kept it completely stock. It was reliable and only needed regular maintenance. I sold it last year to my son with 345,000 miles on it. I rebuilt the fuel heater assembly and replaced a front hub in the time that I owned it. Great truck!

Hey there FGD, just subscribed! Hey man i have my dads 93 first gen W350 with the automatic. It keeps kicking in and out of OD...any solutions or causes for me to check out?
@FirstGenDiesel
@FirstGenDiesel 6 лет назад
Mark Roybal The most common reason is the TPS sensor . It’s ether worn out or it just needs to be adjusted.

This is going to sound crazy, but I did your volt test as you instructed and my volt reading wasn't in 1.00 volt range but read 12.32!! My truck is a 91.5 and I hooked to the middle orange wire. What does this mean? Thanks!
@FirstGenDiesel
@FirstGenDiesel 6 лет назад
Wow! I have never seen or heard of that happening before now . Its as if you were getting voltage directly from the battery. If your truck's wiring has been hacked into it may be a crossed wire or the TPS could possibly be trash. Most of the time when these TPSs go bad the voltage just randomly jumps around from 0 to 5 volts. I have never seen a full 12 volts come out the TPS. Wish I could help more! Good luck with your truck!
@tobylou8
@tobylou8 6 лет назад
What's odd, to me anyway, was that I simply cleaned it with an electric contact cleaner and it shifts fine now, no more jumping out of OD until I hit 75. I pull a trailer, so 75 isn't an issue. I couldn't get the nut to move much at all. This was a farm truck and some things just work when they want to, ornot! Thanks for your quick reply. I'll call my mechanic. Love your truck Bessie!!
@FirstGenDiesel

I know a few people that have had success cleaning there TPS. I myself am thinking of doing a TPS delete with a potentiometer . You can buy kits from $40 to $50, or you can buy parts for about $5 and make your own. Im in the process of researching what all I need to do. Thanks for the complement!
@tobylou8
@tobylou8 6 лет назад
I have thought about that because of the high cost of the TPS sensor, BUT, I am finding them more reasonable at less than $50, some are in the $25 range. Those that use the cheapos are reporting good service. I may do that, but right now it's working under 75 mph! LOL The 12 volts reading is weird though. Thanks again, and I love your videos!

I've got a 1990 D350 auto trans, and 3.07 rear end. Its a struggle to get it up to 70. Would this have something to do with my issue or is it just a matter of my gearing. Engine is strong otherwise.
@redsoldierftcarson
@redsoldierftcarson 5 лет назад
The 1990's don't have a tps, they have a three speed (727torqueflight) tranny. The reason you are having trouble is because you are near the top governed rpm of the engine (2700) which it starts cutting fuel @2500
@pontiacmaniac2
@pontiacmaniac2 5 лет назад
@@redsoldierftcarson Thanks for the heads up, kinda shocking that they would make a truck that can barely do 65, even in the 90's. So what would you suggest, governor spring and a fuel pin? Im not looking for a Hot rod, but keeping up with traffic would be nice.
@redsoldierftcarson
@redsoldierftcarson 5 лет назад
@@pontiacmaniac2 that would work, but I noticed that my 90 lost fuel economy at anything above 60mph, unless fuel economy is not a concern, gear vendor makes an overdrive unit for it, it's pricey though, or you could do a manual conversion or put the A518 trans (basically a 727 with a fourth gear)from a 92 in it.
@pontiacmaniac2
@pontiacmaniac2 5 лет назад
@@redsoldierftcarson I have looked at the gear vendor items but like you said, the expense is pretty high. Id like to stick with the auto if I could. Id eventually like to work in a 4x4 conversion, would there be any issues using the A518 in a 4x4 application? Whats all involved with the swap?
@redsoldierftcarson
@redsoldierftcarson 5 лет назад
My 1992 dodge is 4x4 and as far as I know, you would need the A518 off of a 4x4 rig, and You should be able to simply remove your 2wd od unit and replace it with a 4x4 one. then bolt up your t-case, Just make sure your t-case willl be angled corectly and the spline count is the same.

How do I get it to stay after adjustment?
@MMyers-us4df
@MMyers-us4df 10 месяцев назад
If it doesn’t stay put then the TPS is most likely bad.

Mine gets 1 volt but never changes any ideas?
@FirstGenDiesel
@FirstGenDiesel 11 месяцев назад
I am not a professional on electrical stuff. It could be a bad tps. Aftermarket tps are crap and usually don't work right out of the box. i wasted over $200 to find that out for myself. check voltage going into the tps. If its not getting more than a volt then it can't produce more than a volt. A few years after I made this video, this tps went bad and I went to a manuel rheostat to get overdrive back. You can find videos on youtube on how to do that. My advice is to seek professional help with this matter just to cover my A$$. Hope you can get it fixed.

Manual transmissions do not have a TPS. All it does is control overdrive on a automatic transmission.
