How in the world did they get a water cannon on top of that building so soon? More incredibly, how did they get enough water pressure at that height to shoot that far? FDNY is truly an exceptional organization! Heroes? Absolutely. Magicians? Possibly. Thank you to the creators of this amazing video. My mind is blown.

All builds require a hook up on the outside so essentially you can hook a pumper up too it run water too the top on top of with what the building has.
@bills6946
@bills6946 10 месяцев назад
The building has a mandatory stand pipe. There is a fire pump in the basement and a jockey pump on top. The stand pipe has a hose and running the pumps, they can get the necessary pressure. The house water tank keeps a reserve supply of water up top.

@@Donnie-fe7dcSure, if it was a regular house fire, but something like this requires a ton of resources and logistics. You can't just send fighters straight into a fire like this. Better to have them electric instead of having a diesel engine on top of it which could overheat and start a fire
@RichieD_21
@RichieD_21 3 месяца назад
@peon9282 this is the dumbest thing I ever read. Electric isn't strong enough to power the pumps, not even close. Not to mention batteries are way more at risk of overheating and causing a much worse fire that can't easily be put out. Stop it with all this electric nonsense

So interesting to see this whole thing unfold and see how US emergency teams worked this. Hope those who were injured are ok and make swift and full recoveries. Remarkable no one was killed in this incident. With an ever increasing number of taller buildings in London and our other major cities here in the UK, it makes me wonder how ahead of the curve we would be to tackle fires like this.
@jericho1-4
@jericho1-4 10 месяцев назад
This is going to sound cliché but the truth is due to both fiscal and political reasons most FD's in metropolitan areas have to improvise an awful lot with elevated fires like this. FD's have been calling for not only limits on high of structures but updating of the building and fire codes so that internal structural fire suppression systems and water feed lines for FD"s be on a separate line than the cities main water supply. Equipment and manpower wise again that is based on the fiscal draw per year and the number of structural fire calls they respond to. Not long abo England saw the results of poor building code enforcement when an entire apartment block tower was engulfed in flames. I am positive those firemen and first responders did all they could do during the fire itself. But what was allowed to happen prior to the fire was out of their control. The building owner with full knowledge of the material to be used hired a contractor to upgrade the buildings facade with a highly flammable building material which only hammpered suppression efforts. Hence where the politics comes in, a lot of agencies don't listen to the FD when they say we need to limit structural heights. We need to stop allowing highly flammable building materials. We need to upgrade fire and building codes so newer buildings are built with internal fire suppression systems that slow the burn rate down. A lot of current internal structural fire suppression systems like sprinklers are woefully inadequate and offer little as the original plan for them was for better coverage and cost more money to install, so the developers and contractors petitioned for what is in current use. That hasn't changed much in the last fifty years. We see this all the time here in the states, homes and apartment buildings packed with toxic flammable home decor and building materials with the minimum if any fire retardation factors.

Definitely a risk vs benefit situation with logistics and practicality leaning toward letting it burn itself out while establishing the collapse zone. That said from the peanut gallery, i would never question tactics of the greastest fire department in the world.

Wow. This is really an extraordinary situation, we would reach our limits here in our fire department. How to extinguish such a fire? I thought at first, it seems to me that your water pumps have more power, but that is not surprising when you see the buildings and the heights to which the water must be pumped. In our country, only a few fire departments have such powerful water pumps. I like to watch videos about the work of firefighters from other countries, it's exciting and sometimes educational to see how they do their job :). However, I am a firefighter in Germany and not in the U.S., we are well equipped and trained, but such a scenario that would really put us before a great challenge. Before you think what do they have for fire departments in Germany, you just have to understand and have seen that our cities usually do not have such high skyscrapers, Frankfurth and Cologne with some off them excluded. Therefore, our equipment is also adapted to it, but certainly not worse than elsewhere.

Amazing to see this. By the way: I didn't know there are tower cranes with fuel storage at the top. In the Netherlands, were I live, I made some videos about tower cranes, and all were electric. Of course we have no skyscrapers and the towercranes are less high, but couldn't this one also be electric?
@makenocommento-kj4gq
@makenocommento-kj4gq 10 месяцев назад
@TheoBinnendijk, these cranes are both Diesel and Electric, the truth is as Buildings go higher and higher to maximise Floor space, more Apartments and obtaining more $$$, the frequency of these " accidents" will happen and hopefully the workers don't get hurt.

Man, this is such a fantastic video! it couldn't have been done better. Glad the crane operator got out just fine, and no one seriously hurt... just another NYC moment, right?! My fav moment is at 11:00 to 11:30, "...the Empire State building there... and all the buses comin' in and out. Lucky it didn't fall that way!". That could not be more New York... the city keeps on goin' no matter what.
