For any of those that are curious, Ryan Blackwell did become a FDNY firefighter. He preformed a rescue of a women on September 14, 2013 after only 4 months on the job. He is currently assigned to Ladder 32.
Ryan, you had a lot to carry on your shoulders at such a young age. I'm sure you have felt that your dad has been with you as you follow in his footsteps. You certainly are a credit to him.
@@garystadler5583 Really? Im so proud of Ryan. He got to join a SOC unit like his dad, and he is so close to going to Rescue 3 if he wanted to join, just like how FF. Tom Foley transfered from SQD. 41 to R3
The son reading his father's words brought tears to my eyes. I hope he fulfills his wish and is able to be a fire fighter in Rescue 3. I imagine he will be specifically assigned there rather than just given a random fire house. Legacy outweighs random choice.
@@thatoneguy4041He was in the same firehouse as Ladder 32 but actually in Engine 62 where my maternal grandfather was a captain in he’s now in Squad 41 and may transfer back to Rescue 3
This kid will be a great fighterfighter at 1043.....yes sir you go and live your dream I never knew your father but he seems like a GREAT MAN I know a couple of other guys around the table though
Ten years later, Alexandra, 25, is a police officer at a coastal Connecticut town; Ryan, 23, is New York City Fire Department EMT with plans to follow in his father's footsteps and become a firefighter; and Samantha, 21, is a college student with plans for a career in health care. Jane, who was once an EMT, said she's not surprised her children are taking after their father with careers in public service and helping people.
Never forget the sacrifices they made to save lives and in the process gave up there own lives. The lives the loss and loss of life that was to come. We can never forget there sacrifice.
My pops worked with almost all these heroes When rescue 3 was Washington heights with engine 93 , ladder 45 and battalion 13 God bless all their families and the entire FDNY family God bless them all respects

That’s why this job is the greatest job on the planet. It’s greater than ourselves and what we do is greater than ourselves. I was raised the same way...To love and respect the job and to love those you serve. Without that love, it would be just another job. But it’s far from just another job and that’s something that all fireman believe. To be surrounded by others who feel the same way about that job that you do, makes it’s worth it and makes it worth waking up everyday to do.
Man I sat here and cried watching this. It's 2013 and to this day I cannot forget watching the events of that day unfold before my eyes. I had no intention nor any idea, that one day I would join the fire service. But I remember feeling so strongly that day that the world had lost some very important men.

Ryan Blackwell started out at 62 Engine in Gun Hill which is the same engine company my maternal grandfather was a captain in then Blackwell was transferred to Squad 41 in Melrose on East 150th Street near the Grand Concourse, hopefully he gets put into Rescue 3 soon
Someone said this and I think it fits most if not all the fire companies that responded that day. If were riding on any one of the 5 rescue companies you lost that company
I am friends with the Blackwells and my dad was best friends with Chris, he is part of the reason I want to be a fireman, the other part is that my dad is a leutenite in ridgefield where Chris also worked
Anyone from Rescue 3 knows exactly what Christ kept in his locker that they didn't show which would have earned him more than just a frown from the city. The only hint I'll give to narrow it down is: "There were no more broken bottles against the firehouse."
Does anyone know if Joe Spor daughter is still in New york ...I have something that she done for him when she was little I don't know how to contact her it is a card she had drawed for him. If anyone knows her or maybe she will see this and respond back..
