Thanks for this great video! Had a bad experience at the vet's the other day. They dragged my kitty hard scruffed out of the carrier, first thing, without even a hello, so of course she was upset. Never had a problem at the vet with her before so I wasn't prepped to tell them not to do this to her. Once the exam was under way, I didn't want to make it worse for her by complaining to them, so just suffered through guiltily, wanting to cry. Looking for ways to improve the next visit and also.going to find a fear free trained vet through the AAFP website.
Most of this video shows some great examples of Fear-Free methods for cats in a veterinary environment. The only problem is the dogs barking in the background! Some cat-specific audio (David Teie's Music for cats is a good one) to drown out the noise of dogs nearby would be a great addition. Still, I applaud the Vet for taking the time to make visits more comfortable for their feline clients
I’m so happy to finally see a video of a vet who knows how to handle cats! I’m sure the pheromones help a lot, but I appreciate seeing the effort put into the whole experience not being stressful
Orange tabbies are the best! Feliway -Do you need to spray 15 mins before-hand for proper evaporation? Do you give treats to EVERY patient, every time?
I don't think they actually drew blood during the demonstration. It looked like the sleeve was still on the butterfly catheter when the camera cut. They kept the needle cover on during the dog demonstration as well.
Personally, my cat doesn't particularly like treats at all. Likes to be pet often but is a rescue street cat. Now pretty mello after being with me now for almost 2 years. He doesn't like being handled much at all. How would you restrain a cat like mine?
Good video for a perfect scenario however, often times we know that most cats are already stressed out once they are in a carrier let alone how they are in a hospital environment! There are situations where a gentle but firm scruff is necessary to keep the pet and the staff safe. Fear free does NOT work on every cat.
Theres a cat on you tube called justice, and another called ahi, would pove to see this demo done with both of them. Its world war 3 and its almost impossible to keep ahi in a towel.
