So, I really like Fear and Hunger, in fact I'm pretty passionate about it right now, but there's one thing that I'm really not fond of:
The lack of a proper god of death!
If I were to presume, I'd guess that it's because the developer considered Gro'Goroth a suitable substitute, considering how the game speaks of destruction and creation, but man, to me, Gro'Goroth is more like an infernal god, not a proper death god like Anubis or something!
But forget that, A.U./headcanon time because I enjoy it!
I also enjoy turning favourite characters of mine into badarse mystical warriors with love partners in crime, which are also characters I like, because healthy team couples seem to be a pleasure of mine hahah, and the only healthy team couple that I know of in media and like are Gomez and Morticia.
My A.U. studies of Mourgana:
“People, both noble and common, nowadays fear death as they fear the unknown, unaware of what might await them after it, but death is not the end of life, but a change.
Nothing embodies the true meaning of death quite like Mourgana, the goddess of black, putrescent oceans, necrophos and death, taking on the appearance of a serpentine, pale crow with arms, legs and wings, holding a great scythe.
When ones body dies, Mourgana or one of her angels cut ones soul out with their scythes, proceeding to guide ones soul to its new, awaiting existence, protecting them from outer affiliations with their scythes.
Death is as much a part of life as are food and drink.
Primordial nature thrives in water, water drowns air-breathing life, maggots and scavengers feast on the putrescent flesh of the dead, predators kill prey to live, such is the harmonious balance between the living and the dead, between Mourgana and Vinushka.
What's more is that Mourgana does not embody only the death of the living.
It is said that during times of poverty and despair in the ancient ages, people not only turned to Vinushka, but also to Mourgana, praying for the death of their suffering.”.
"Necrophos, death light, the glacial, life-sapping flame of Mourgana, shining a mesmerizing pale turquoise with bits of a vivid iris colour.
A gentle, cooling flame on the soul of the one blessed with it, a guaranteed killer of those ready, yearning for death.
The flame freezes and shatters, even capable of extinguish the most furious of wildfires.
Intriguing is the colourless crystal that results from bodies decomposed in Mourgana's putrescent black water.
Particularly experienced priests and sorcerers have been able to bend it to their will and even produce it out of their own flesh.
Such products had been dubbed "necrocrystals"."
"Sylvian opposed the union between Mourgana and Vinushka.
Mourgana, as the goddess of death, could not grow and nurture new life, and Sylvian desired her son's love the same way she desired the love of all of her creations, to the point of frenzy.
As death was not the end of life, their harmony did not mirror destruction and creation, yet Gro'Goroth had been happy for his son, until, tainted by the malevolence of the very archsorcerers who worshipped him, Gro'Goroth attempted to disturb the balance between Vinushka and Mourgana, influenced by the lies of his second highest-ranking followers.
Such an event led to a great war between gods that led to the destruction of Ma'habre, ending in the subduing of Sylvian and Gro'Goroth by life and death.
But we've had our doubts.
Were the old gods, besides Mourgana and Vinushka, truly easily influenced by malevolence?
And could a war between them have decimated their own city?
Although it is true, Sylvian's love turned into a feverish lust once mankind was not able to reciprocate her adoration, perhaps Sylvian's lust had tainted him?
Did Gro'Goroth succumb to the blinding wrath of jealousy?
We suspect that there is more to this story, but unfortunately, not every question has an answer that is easy to find."
And, of course, A.U. secrets of Mourgana, written by a necrophos priest:
"Life exists in putrescence, and this life I can grant the dead.
If I focus putrescent waters within the skulls of the dead, I can take control of them.
It is as if I were creating a new brain for them under my will alone.
This is not limited to just corpses, poltergeists haunting mines and long-forgotten manors heed my call as well.
Perhaps this will be a turning point in our efforts to push back against the priests and sorcerers of Gro'Goroth's false teachings."
