That is Fleming McWilliams from Fleming and John, and she is an amazing vocalist. Check out their records "Delusions of Grandeur" and "The Way We Are".
Out of all the tv musical performances I've seen, this is definitely the most original. 10 years later and it still defines the term "strangely beautiful".
A beautiful and iconic moment, and one more example of how much Conan O'Brien has done to promote creative music over his legendary career. Anyone can have musical guests, but Conan truly loves music.
Brilliant!!!! I've never seen this performance before, but love the song. Ben Folds is such an amazing talent. "You will never know me" still sends a shiver down my spine. Many thanks for uploading. :-)
Everyone, this is on an album they did together called "Fear of Pop". It is one of the most creative, bizarre and amazing albums ever. There is a song called "Rubber Sled", yes, a whole song about a rubber sled and some weird old storekeeperceho sells it to Ben Folds, this beautiful gem, a song that is the soundtrack for a police chase (complete with effects and voice clips "freeze asshole!"... It is awesome!!! The collaboration went so well that it led to Shatners album "Has Been", which is almost equally strange and incredible- all the music done by Folds. I am biased, as I love both of these men as artists and I used to listen to this with my brother and laugh and laugh all night long, while he was still in this world. Share Fear of Pop with someone you love!!!
The quirk and eccentricity to this performance is top notch. The mermaid looking vocalist, the one stringed sounding guitar being played with drumsticks at times, the simple drum set, the strings, and William shatners intensity. Really quite amazing
Every time I watch Shatner I think of the Homerpalooza episode of the Simpsons. 2 kids cheering for Homer and one says something like, "Are you cheering ironically?" The other replies, "I don't even know anymore."
Holy crap I had no idea they ever performed this live. I mean, of course it makes sense (they collaborated on a whole album later), but still. Wow, awesome.
@pjhoward14 It's Fleming and her husband John is playing guitar. Together they are Fleming and John. Search here on youtube for their video for Not Afraid. She is freaking amazing
OK in the other video it says it was in 2000, but here it says 1999! I can't believe it was so long ago! I remember seeing it when it first aired and remembered loving it! This it the first time I've seen this since then!
okay. is the guitarist playing with only one string? and during the second verse, is he hitting that string with sticks?! this is such a great performance and i keep noticing more things every time i come back.
