In today's video, we explain the features of Supermicro's IPMI also known as the Intelligent Platform Management Interface.
IPMI runs on something called a BMC or “Baseboard Management Controller” which is a hardware subsystem that operates independently from the host CPU, OS, and firmware
The large majority of the features discussed within this video come as standard with current Supermicro Motherboards.

How do I access the Supermicro IPMI? I bought a used X8DT3 from eBay. Everything seems to work. I do not hear any beeping noise. However I do not see an IP address from it when I connect it to a local LAN network, therefore how do I connect to the IPMI? Thanks.

@@ServerfactoryLTD It is an overkill system for running Unraid with some dockers and VMs, especially as it is running dual L5530 Xeons. But it is fun :)

Not really - Apple did include IPMI itself on their Xserve range of servers, they refer to it as "Lights-Out-Management" or LOM. They also reimagined LOM on the Mac Pro 2019, but this time not using the IPMI standard, but an entirely proprietary system which everyone cheerfully ignored
