Everytime I watch it Im crying. I live in small city where nobody knows World of Warcraft and there is nobody to talk with about that awesome game and history. And moment when you watch it and realize that you are not alone in the world with your big love to World of Warcraft is beautiful. Violins and electronic keyboards, paired with war drums and rough singing voices. I always envision this as a Draenei priestess singing with her allies, as Orcish war drums and thundering choirs march toward them. Like, a musical interpretation of the Draenei and Orc war. And it's fucking fantastic.
I'd fallen in love with the original song the moment I heard it. It was like something out of a dream, so poetic and immersing. For me, my first time hearing it was in the Nightmarsh, as Velen gave Yrel control over the Rangari, the second more intense verse being of course the escape from the Shadowmoon Village which name I forget. I'd always sort of tied it as her theme from there, the struggles of an acolyte against hopelessness and despair, fighting against the evils that would plague her people and forging herself into a righteous weapon wielded by the Light and ultimately emerging reborn, a savior of the Draenei. I'd never have suspected such a beautiful piece had such tragedy behind it. Yet this stands an example still that in the depths of darkest sorrow, there is always still a glimmer of light to grasp, to hold. If music is an expression of the soul, then I'd say that light was grasped quite perfectly and only made more grand and profound through the unity and talent of this collaborative effort.
It was an absolute honor and privilege to collaborate with such wonderful and talented musicians on such a powerful project. I still get chills watching this; even more so when I remember that I was a part of such an amazing collaboration.
World of Warcraft is a game with many emotional hooks - hearing Malach in game at the first point the Alliance player hears it, after finally fighting to save Yrel's sister and failing, is one powerful one. Sobbed like a lost child the first time. Still brings tears.
WaleranSlob Eimear is the original composer, and Craig Stuart Garfinkle is the original music producer :). This is as much a cover as a re-imagining. But it is indeed real.
Hey Eimear, I just want to tell you that "Malach" is still pounding my heart every time I hear it from the day you've performed it. I feel so connected to your son's spirit in so many levels. My jewish religion and the fact that I live in Israel make this so much more powerful, hearing the SHOFAR, the name Malach, your description on youtube about his religion and the story of Mecada. I'd love to get the full lyrics if you got them, I've tried searching for them anywhere. My heart is with you and your son Eimear.
I had NO idea that this was dedicated to a little boy. I love this piece of music. I'm so glad I found this out...it makes the piece so much more emotional and moving to me.
Every time. EVERY time I watch this, I tear up. It’s a stunning collaboration of musicians playing an otherworldly composition. I hated the expansion but this song IS World of Warcraft when it used to be epic. Miss those days.
I started listening because it was chance to hear Malukah's lovely voice but scholl on that drum solo with the nordic choir. That was powerful n epic.He looked the part too. A big guy

I've been wondering for a while about why Blizzard called one of their soundtracks in Hebrew. Now that I know, the story makes me weep. Is it because of the very real sadness interwoven in the music of a fantasy world, or because of its creator's sheer genius and passion? Or perhaps both?

Blizzard failed in a lot of ways with Warlords of Draenor. One way they did *not* fail, however, was in the music. It had some of the best music I've heard - but Blizzard is very consistent in having excellent music in their expansions. In terms of music and story, Warlords of Draenor was one of their strongest expansions. It simply failed at max level in terms of "things to do outside of your Garrison."
