The FAVOURITES videos are back! 🎉 In this one, I'll share the art supplies I'm particularly enjoying using right now. We'll look at my favourite new sketchbook (this one is a game changer!) and the artwork inside, the entire set of 24 Derwent Drawing pencils, and my current favourite Schmincke Horadam super granulating paints. I'll swatch these in quite an unusual way, creating a simple piece of artwork with 15 beautiful colours. This is a chunky video, so get cosy and settle in for 55 minutes of swatching, calm painting and art chat. This is another video that's perfect to put on in the background while you work. Enjoy!

Just good fronds:) LOVE this style of swathes, I think you’re RU-vid's Queen of swatching 👑 no one else swathes so clearly and creatively and shows labeled closeups at the end which really help to get a close representation of the pigments which is so helpful in choosing your own collection

Thanks Suzi! I tend to use my brass KUM double-hole sharpener most often. It sounds weird, but if I use the larger hole they get a really nice short but sharp point, which I love! But they fit both holes. :)

Lovely! You could also start with a watery wash of the color as a background to the little designs to show the granulation and when dry paint over with the more concentrated color - though that's pretty extra extra for swatches lol. Glad to be just good fronds!

Your paint swatching is so beautiful it’s beyond words! The paintings on the Strathmore gray toned sketchbook are stunning. I loved all three of them, including the “not-so-perfect” one. LOL. The Derwent drawing pencil swatches on the gray toned paper are so soothing and calming to the eye! Just good fronds!!🌿🍃🥬🍁

Ranger’s Distress Glaze or Dorlands Wax Medium May offer a solution for your Strsthmore toned sketchbook cover. I used Ranger’s on a similar Moleskine journal I purchased in before I learned of the ‘name’ . I’m any case I’ve used both to protect watercolors, especially Rangers on Strathmore watercolor greeting cards . Applied to my journal, it seemed to heal /cleara few spots & has protected ever since. Dorlands must sit for 24 hr before buffing. Rangers works well even when I’ve rushed it tin 30 min or so. I love these paints, Tundra orange, pink and purple could Capture California Central Valley sunsets over the past month beautifull , green the hillsides emerging from last summer’ s sunburnt browns.
