Hello! I have Zorki 1 and FED 5. I am planning to have a FED 2 with a industar 12 35mm lens. That's why I am here. Thanks for the video. I noticed your FED needs a CLA because I noticed almost -1 stop exposing difference on the right side of your horizontal photos. That indicates, the velocity of 1st curtain and the 2nd are not equal. It may need adjusting the shutter cloth tension. It is easy. you can do it yourself. If it does not solve the problem then your camera needs to be disassembled because the lubrication in the camera parts gets bad in time and needs to be cleaned totally before lubricating with modern camera grease.
Hello, Another great video from you. I'm owning Fed-2 (from ca 1959) in my tiny collection and I use it with pleasure. Industar-26M is really sharp lens - this is a Carl Zeiss Tessar clone I think. I can see your pictures they are not evenly exposed on the left and right side of the frame - this may mean uneven movement of the shutter canvases, which moves horizontally. This is a very common problem with this type of camera and the like that I also have. I suppose that it is enough to adjust and lubricate, i.e. typical procedures in a service workshop and the problem will disappear. Best regards.
Great stuff. I like the quality of the shots. I have never owned a Russian rangefinder, though I do own a couple of Zenit SLRs. The rangefinders I have used are a Yashica Campus and a Balda Super Matic - great fun but with fixed lenses, so I may look out for a Fed now.
I recently bought one. On b mode the shutter will stay open even after I let go. It also have some light leaks. But some of the pictures look pretty good. I’m still going to keep the camera and try to fix the leaks. Thank you. Greetings from America
I received bought both a fed 2 and a Zorki 4. I have to say the Zorki is great. The Fed 2 isn't bad but the viewfinder is way too small. The Zorki has a better viewfinder for sure. Mechanically I had more issues with the fed 2 than the Zorki as well. But I still have a fondness for the Fed 2 and plan on purchasing another one that works better.
I have one, and I am rather anxious. It sits on the shelf in its case. That Cloth shutter is my main concern. A chap in a central London analogue camera shop. He suggested that I hold it up to bright light. Every other function appears to work, so I shall have to take the plunge. Ha!
Title FED from the first letters of the name and surname of the head of the Cheka and the OGPU (subsequently, the KGB.) - Felix Edmundovich Dzerzhinsky - FED.
@@beforedigital OK. I just had delivered a FED 2 from Ukraine and wonder if the same malady, or some other, will pop up. The camera is claimed to have an MLA.
