During my short stay in Pennsylvania awhile back, I figured I’d hit up a siren recording while I was in the area. I immediately gravitated towards Forest Hills considering how close it was to where I was staying. Plus, I never got to hear a 612 run on the original SiraTone controller. The ones I filmed in Illinois were always running a newer UltraVoice or MCP. I really love how creepy that analog controller sounds in person. While certainly not the loudest siren, it definitely has an unmistakable sound with the surrounding hills and buildings providing great acoustics. I might stop by again when the weather gets warmer again and who knows…maybe I can try my luck and see if I can get other signals tested.
Sirens surrounding the Pittsburgh metro are mostly used to either signal a curfew or alert volunteer firefighters as a backup to their pagers. Around the eastern part of the county, this system is tested every Saturday at Noon.
Enjoy, and as always comment, like, and subscribe for more. Thanks!
