@@cryptosporidium01 you can see the venom on the rat! That rat is either very durable or the talking vibration was messing with his aim? Well I think you can the Yellow on it's fur looks like excess venom left on the fangs as the rat ran out? Could be wrong? Either way that rat is very durable!
@@jaketomkinson2310 depends. Some snakes wont eat dead prey items. Sometimes you can manage to get them used to it though. The issue im seeing here is that the prey item is too big.
Oh that's nothing one time I got a large rat and it was fighting for its life and almost killed my boa python it have scars on its face was trying to eat its eyes and brains. Sewer rats teeth are so strong plumers and city construction workers have report of iron bars being chewing and twisted up by rats. Other rodents are even strongers squirrels and beavers got strong teeth. My poor boa head bleed a little bit. Yeah rats can put up a fight yo. So I just deed medium to small rats. Even a couple of mouse is good. But a large rat can. Put up a fight It was big like a shoe almost a foot long without tail length included
@@isaiahGC Nope. That is how venomous snakes hunts. They bite their prey and inject them with venom, when the prey comes close. And after that, they just waits from a safe distance for their prey to die from the venom, before they go after their prey and eat them whole.
I actually started reading about this species and found two interesting things: 1, it's actually better to feed them live and wait because 2, they tend to be picky af about their food. And since you can be in there fucking with it for an hour while it decides to hunt or not (because it's venemous) it's advisable to just leave live prey.
@@charliehancock3534 it does generally speaking with most snakes, but from what I was reading, this particular one is already a picky eater, and will wait before catching its prey. I assume if one can train one to take frozen-thawed, no harm no foul, but that alone could mean you just never get it accustomed to it.
I own three wild caught westerns as well as a few captives and I have had no issues feeding them frozen thawed rats. You just need to get them to the right temp and let the snake strike it before dragging the rat to the opposite corner of the enclosure. They will sniff them out just as if it were alive and take them down no problem.
Bro you can’t feed Rattlesnakes frozen thawed rats lmao they have venom for that reason Alone they need it to break down skin and enzymes in the body so that can digest it right the venom can’t circulate on something already dead therefore causing poor digestion and probably a dead snake sooner or later, and it’s just cooler lmao

Not so. Rattlesnake fatalities are like one in 600. If left untreated then you might have medical problems. It won't even kill their prey, only sedates and paralyzes.
@@Crossroadsstories Do you think of yourself as weak? You dominate this planet and are the apex predator living in fear of no other creature except maybe man. Rattlesnake bites are not fatal to man, only when left untreated and that's about one in 600. If it was fatal to man then the mice would be dead at the first bite.
@@derbynorthrop Actually the venom is a neurotoxin design to paralyze and shut down the nervous system. It looks like you're dead but they're actually just paralyzed.

Feeding the snake a still living mouse is needlessly cruel. Snakes are perfectly fine eating a mouse that's already dead and more humanely killed than thrown into tight quarters with a venomous predator.
Do you not know anything about snakes?. Literally MOST of the prey snakes eat in both captivity and in the wild ARE ALIVE. Half of all predators prefer live prey over dead prey overall and snakes are one of them. Even if they do eat dead animals sometimes they prefer to hunt and eat live prey instead. Besides all it takes is one strike sometimes less than 4 or 3 (depending on the specific snake) to take items prey down. The animal will suffer a quick death before being swallowed unless the snake purposely squeezes the life out of it. This is nature deal with it.
@@Kaiju-bm4ts The thing I don't like and an inconsistency in your comment is how long this altercation lasted, being pinned with that deafening rattle and slow acting poison for 40 fucking minutes I just think if you're going to give it live make it quick ffs, I may have no right to stop people so all we have is civil dissent like how some vegans expose animal butcher conditions but that could help bring more moral conditions, maybe after the reaction in comments they will see to making its a quicker death instead of wandering around boxed in slowly dying for almost an hour
@@kingaha3657 Again like my comme i said the time it takes for a animal to die from a snake bite DEPENDS on the species of snake and how many bites it delivered to said animal. The creator of the video shouldn't have to edit or cut down the video to when the rat dies just because you either got a short attention span or can't simply skim through the video or can't handle how this is nature and this is how long it takes for this specific snake to kill a rat. If you can't handle nature or long the video is how about this DON'T watch it period
@@Kaiju-bm4ts Lol cutting the video? I'm clearly trying to empathize with the rat how would cutting make any difference to how long it suffered actually? I'm not an expert on reptiles, but I'm pretty sure this is a feeding tub, not the snakes actual home. It's not necessarily cruel because snakes eat ...well meat and so do humans and so do many animals. It's really only cruel if the mouse was mistreated prior by humans. I know it's sad but alas that's nature. A lion isn't evil for eating a gazelle...it's just doing what it needs to survive. Perhaps there is a more humane way to do this but idk.
@@reptileclub8681 some animals need live food, idk about this kind of snake however. Now posting it...idk If it's cruel or educational...idk how I feel about it.
@@Wasserkaktus yes but my point still stands. Meat is an integral part to an Omnivores diet, and humans are Omnivores. It's upsetting but that's the way of Mother Nature. I'm against animal cruelty....that is unforgivable...but I'm not against the consumption of animals. They should however be treated with the utmost respect and kindness.
@@lucianaromulus1408 It's really not, no. Omnivores can eat both and when balanced properly can even exclusively eat one over the other: Humans eat more meat now than they ever have before in history due to how much more exponentially prosperous humans are today, and this is a fact. Prior to this, meat made up a tiny minority of our diets and proteins were mostly obtained through things like nuts, mushrooms and legumes. Animals were farmed more often than not for their fat and hides than their meat.
Feeling bad for that poor mouse being trying to save his life True warrior In every war of animals prey never succeeed over predator It is stable ecosystem in nature
Guys, it's ok to feel bad for the rat, but that's how animals eat! Even the animals that are pets, some need meat to survive unlike humans, some of you might have a favorite animal that only eats meat, if they didn't get any of the meat they could die.
@@senatorarmstrong2549 but this is NOT nature is it. In nature the mouse would have had a chance to run away. This is an UNATURAL situation instigated by a human that obviously has not evolved passed being a neanderthal. REPULSIVE INDIVIDUAL THAT SEES THIS AS ENTERTAINMENT. What a D..k
Esto sucede en la naturaleza, las serpientes cazan ratones. Una serpiente prefiere una presa viva, por lo tanto la deben alimentar con ratones vivos, es raro que una serpiente prefiera la carroña. Las serpientes son muy exigentes con su comida.
In the wild after bitting the mouse the snake would wait for it to die then track it's scent and eat it. Usually he wouldn't have to rattle because the rat would run away and then die.
Lots of snake experts in the comments. This feeding tub is large. The snake felt nervous and on guard due to the size and amount of space open between the two. Body language and common knowledge.
Albino snake, armed to teeth with Albino Venom? Against Albino rat armed with Albino Anti-venom..?!! A truly, mighty and righteous physics formula here...
@joe zeiher Just like humans, snakes have personalities. Some might be really mean, some just want to get away from you, which is the case for most wild ones. Remember that if you see a snake with a pit viper head, like a rattlesnake, cottonmouth, copperhead, etc, just run.

It sucks as I am in the same boat but unfortunately two of the three snakes I have only eat live. I just put them in there and don't watch. As long as the animals don't go to waste, I can live with this.
If they are producing antidote that will save lives and avoid suffering of people and even other animals, the good intention justify the mouse death, but if It's just to keep a snake as a pet and have some fun, they are totally wrong and will pay for it. Every action has a reaction.
Snake prey also tend to run away when they get bitten in the wild, pumping the venom through their blood even faster too. That mouse there couldn't run very far.
“quite immune” You mean resistant. Even so, I don’t think that’s the case here. Rattlesnake venom are typically weak, which allows their prey to survive minutes after they were bitten.
I just fed my Mojave a small rat like this. He lived for around 45 minutes after the bite. Took so long he wasn't interested in eating him amymore lol. Back to mice for now.
