Yep Petko, those other black dots along the side of the Hadrurus arizonensis’s carapace are also eyes; in fact, all scorpions have eyes there. Also, the mouth pieces are called “chelicerae,” just like they are on spiders, and the claws are modified pedipalps

Is it just me or did anyone else wanted to see an upclose of that molt, and also the search for any of the deathstalker scorpions? Great video!

Great video as always! I've found it easier to feed my scorpions using just red lighting. Since it doesn't disturb them as much, the feed response time is much faster and you can film them pretty well. Just a suggestion! Also awesome footage of the h. arizonensis good to finally see her out and feeding 😁!

I have an idea, doing an animal feature at the end of every video. I'd like to see more of the other animals more often like how you show Despacito & Felix but you have so much more! Especially the ones that are rarely outside 😉😁

The mouthparts are the chelicerae, and very closely resemble a tarantula. If you closely examine a tarantula molt you will see that the fangs are folded back against a very spiky surface and are used to grasp prey items and tear them apart. That's a stunning P schlechteri, too. Very beautiful and underrated scorpion. Thanks for showing it to us!

Scorpions are the whole reason I subscribed to this channel back in 2018. I wanted to get my own pet scorpion back then, and by watching your videos I learned that I did _not_ _actually_ _want_ _to_ _get_ _my_ _own_ _pet_ _scorpion._

Considering how impossibly hard it is to film any bug feeding as a 1 man team. I feel like your one of the best in the world at it. You have gotten countless perfect clips of feeding with fantastic editing. Great job Dark Den, your really amazing at being a youtuber.

Hey Petko, I feel your pain when feeding scorpions! I found that using an infrared light will make 100% easier to feed them on camera while still being able to capture usable footage. The only downside is that everything will be red so it will be hard to see the colors on the scorps. Upvote this so Petko can feed more scorpions for us scorpion lovers!! Edit: the video turned out amazing anyways, keep on posting amazing content!!!

The scorpion at 11:20 was trying so hard to reach with his stinger it reminded me of a person trying to get the tv remote from a chair but its just out of reach.

I used to have about 50 tityus stigmurus a few years ago, try put water for them to drink and to bath (seriously, they some times enter in the bawl, if it doesn't go deeper than they, to clean theyself)

Terrified of scorpions and always have been. But this has been helpful in making me somewhat less so.

15:52 Do a night time time laps with UV light so they glow, then you should see them if there's anything to see.

As for feeding, i've often thought about just setting up a camera to catch them hunting at night... maybe you can set up the cameras and record a different scorpion feeding each night, and then put it together for a feeding video

I just started subscribing to your channel this January this year because this was also the time i started tarantula and scorpion keeping. I started too late in life (im 39), i know, but i am doing my best to catch up rewatching your old uploads. Not only are your videos very insightful in the joys of keeping exotic pets, but I am also learning as well the rate of male pattern baldness over the years. At least I am learning what to expect since I am also in the same genetic boat as you. My current hairline is similar to your hairline 3 years ago. Thanks for sharing.

I live in Arizona and we have those giant desert scorpions everywhere Lol.. during summer they are a hassle to deal with cuz they are always trying to get inside of peoples homes

Few months back when I started watching your channel I only had a bunch of reptiles but that changed very fast. You got interested in scorpions, assassin bugs and even tarantulas. Bought my first 2 scorpions last summer, “heterometrus cyaneus” and “heterometrus petersi”. I bought them at a reptile fair, and the cyaneus molted the day after, sadly it has passed away recently (at 14cm). I dried it in a natural position with some needles so I can keep it.

The big pincers are pedipalps and small ones are the helicerae, same naming as in spiders and majority of arachinda in general. The exceptions are some acari species like ticks that also have special names for their pedipalps and helicerae.

the things on the side of the head are also eyes. and the mouthparts are called chelicera (kel-i-sera).

Scorpion mouthparts are like cool little shredder machines.

If you like the giant desert hairy but want to see more feeding action you should get a Smeringurus mesaensis ( California dune scorpion). They look very similar and also love to burrow however their much more active and have a stronger venom but still only mild for a scorpion, I believe their in the same sub family as striped tail scorpions.

I think you should put a fish tank at the bottom of Felixs' enclosure on the ground (if that is even possible lol) after you've had the glass curved 🙌😮 Yet again... Not surprised te desert hairy ate for the camera. My desert hairy scorpion was a pig. He ate anything and everything I put in his enclosure. I used to wait for dark, drop a couple crickets in his cage, turn on the black light, and watch him systematically annihilate his dinner. He was cool as heck to watch hunting.

I was stung by Hadrurus arizonensis, the giant desert hairy scorpion, back in 1986. At the time, I lived in a desert area of Nevada just outside of Las Vegas, and I was clearing out some property I owned there. For years this property was used as a dumping ground by some construction company, and we had to use iron claw-rakes to pull up layer upon layer of cardboard, asphalt tiles, and old bags of cement. That's what I was doing when the scorpion crawled up my pants and stung the back of my knee and then my thigh. I was stung 4 or 5 times. It was painful and a bit scary, but when I took off my pants I was relieved to see it was Hadrurus arizonensis. Their venom is not very potent, however, because I was stung multiple times, I called our 24-hr public nurse hotline, just to be cautious. I was told to visit the ER if I had fever, chest pain or headache, and I had already scooped the scorpion into a jar to take with me if I had to go there. But everything was fine, thank goodness...just some dry, itchy skin there for a few days.

Giant desert hairies are awesome! Used to have a few that I caught in my house when I lived out there. You gotta always check your clothes and shoes living out there, I got stung by a bark scorpion one time and learned to shake my clothes REAL quick. Found a black widow in my boots, too. Love all the species out there!

Maybe the Skull has chemical residue on it, from when it was cleaned? That could be an invisible killer to your DeathStalker Scorpions.

Although I love my scorpions I got to say they are secretive. Currently I only have H.silenus (3 scorplings) but I had H.spinifer, P.imperator and B.jacksoni and I never saw the Babycurus eat. I do have luck to see them munching from time to time but once I turn the camera on they are gone. Also Ts are so silent in comparison to scorpions. They just bang on the glass while moving :D Gotta love those pretty arachnids :)

I feel like the scorpions' reluctance to eat has to do with the light, as they probably just want to get some shut eye during the day. In the dark, they're a lot more active as they are nocturnal and you could use a UV light.

Dark Den awesome feeding videos, but have you heard of the False Scorpion/Pseudoscorpion scientific name Garypus Titania common name Titan False Scorpion they are the biggest of their family 1.2-1.5 cm, I know not that big but it is to me they are very awesome you should get one of this for a feeding video that would be awesome.

I've never had scorpions, but Aviculairia aviculairia's are pretty fun to keep! Also just rehoused an Avicularia aviculairia, aka Skittles, into a pretty nice batta fish tank (Probably 1/2 gallon tank) she lived in a smaller enclosure when she was smaller, god I wish I had my camera to record it and show my viewers! Plus sub to legs with gangs, pretty no e T keeper! 😀

You could try using a IR illuminater and film in the dark for some shots I suppose. Either way love the video as always.

I think the other eye looking things are another set of eyes that can't see as well but are used for gauging distance? Also, the little tiny pincers they use to eat are called chelicerae.

@The Dark Den, I've heard that most insects can't see red light/perceive red light in the same way as white light. You can't try get a red filter for your filming lights, then a filter for the camera that shifts red back to normal colours? See if that helps to make night crawling insects, less shy?

I live in Arizona and the scorpions I found in my apartment looked just like your pet that took the worm. I had 2 of them in a two room apartment. I almost stepped on it with my bare foot because it looked like a leaf. I thought twice because I didn't have my glasses on, so glad I waited!
