Most of the time. But believe it or not it can get noisy with all that you mentioned. Car sounds, motorcycle racing around the lake, neighbors getting loud, dogs barking etc, even a loud band playing down by the lake in summertime. But most of the time it’s nice and that’s what I try to keep the videos about. We are still in winter mode which quiets things down a lot, but summer can get crazy. Living in an area where it can get dead quiet also means that when there are extraneous noises, they can really be heard from long distances. The only way to stay sane is to focus on the good moments which are still plentiful. 🦌🦌🦌🌞🦌🦌🦌
@@klauss.7395 I like that. I haven’t seen my squirrels lately on account of a mega snowstorm. Haven’t seen the raccoons either. And the deer are kind of nervous in the snow. 🐿🐿🐿
I really love this @soarornor! Even though I used technology to view it, for a moment I forgot what a mess our world is in and how simplicity and nature brings us back to center. Good stuff.
Thanks! Yeah, I pick out the nicest, sweetest apples for them and they just love them. I spoil them I suppose, but they so love fruit. I have a pear tree on the property and they just love that at the end of the season. They hang out under the pear tree and eat the pears that have dropped or pull off some fresh ones from the tree. I can imagine that they feel very lucky indeed to have apples all year round. 🐿😎🐿
They certainly are! An incredible bunch that keeps me laughing and wondering about the mysterious deer life. Every day it’s different. A variety of fleeting moments that are incredible and then they’re gone. But then back the next day for more!
Yeah, I love her so. She’s such a sweetie! You’d never know how much coaxing it took when she first came around with Mother to come join in for the Apple feast.
@@soarornor I noticed that younger deer are more spooky than the older one's. I feed and help a mama deer that has a broke ankle and she brings her 2 babies with her and mama will eat right near me no problem but the 2 little one's will run if I just look at them. Takes time. The fact that little ones comfortable around you tells me you're a great guy and doing things right. Prey animals are tough to gain their trust and when you do it's a great feeling
@@MattyDemelloYeah, it’s true. It takes awhile for the little ones to be certain that they’ll be ok if they get close. But sooner or later, with some soft words and a smile, they come around. Little One is real Big now but she still is first in line standing next to me to get that next slice. Since this was filmed, there have been a few changes in the herd. Of the two Twins, one of them had a fawn. Twin 2. That was quite lovely for awhile but then the rejection of her started up again by the Matriarch. In the end after getting to know Micro, Twin 2 disappeared and Micro still followed the herd. But they rejected her a lot as well. Kind of back and forth on that. And Little One got in on that which really surprised me. After awhile they seemed to accept her but still no sign of her mother. Twin 1 still showed up but then the rejection of her started again and even little Micro was getting in on that. The Twins were the most unaggressive deer so it really hurt me to see that. Then, the last few times I saw the deer it was Twin 1 and Micro together and no one else. Then today just Twin 1. So I’m anxiously awaiting a real nice day when they come around and see where the herd is at. Deer life is a real mystery.
True. I was just out there now hanging with them but something in the woods has been distracting them and they didn’t stay long. But when they do, it sure is nice!
Oh yeah. I love it too. Lots of critters show up when there is food to eat. Especially in the winter when it’s very scarce. So very relaxing and beautiful! 😎👌😎

Ahhh..I've been blessed to walk with whitetail deer for over 2 decades.. we've learned a lot from each other.. I just got in from visiting my family of 5, Matriarch Zoe who is going on 7 this spring, her Rosie(going on 3) Nanny Daisy(going on 2) & Rascal & Luna.. We spend a lot of time in the evenings in winter resting together, they fall asleep for 3 hours or so.. I share apples a little differently than most folks..the deer & I just hit the apple trees, I shake & pull some.down, I take a couple bites & pass on..we bond & enjoy good food.. I forage blackberries as they eat the foliage, not the berries, so we have fun in the briers! I also enjoy the grape leaves, wild strawberries..& of course we all love the garden..good life with good friends & good food is universal.. 😋❤🦌 I can't speak for your blacktail deer, but my Zow let me follow her fawns' full development..perhaps you too will get the chance! That little girl is adorable! Everyone was calm & happy! They might let you follow them more over time, being with them more than in front of them.. I walk in the path taken by the matriarch, a sign of submitting respect to her authority & intentions. Family travels the same path. I've learned so much from my friends, it is amazing to gain understanding of their world & ways.. I enjoyed this moment, but now I have to find some apples...lol😄 Be well my friend!
Wonderful story! You sound like you’ve got a similar thing as me going on. Sounds like you’ve been at it awhile too. I’ve lived here eleven years but this is the first time I’ve been able to have this close of a relationship. I credit the humble apple. It’s brought us altogether in such a magical way. The grains being consistently given out has also helped. I’m learning a lot about them too. I’d love to reach a point where we all wander together. That would be something else. I have run across them in the woods and we’ve hung out a bit there. My fields are vast so there’s lots of wandering room there. I’m very much looking forward to summer to see how many new fawns there will be. I’m hoping they’ll come around regularly and I can watch them grow up. Thanks for the great comment and visiting my channel. 🦝🦌🥀👏🥀🦌🦝
Your most welcome. Yeah, it’s hard to believe that at one time Little One was so little that Mother hid her in the woods while she came to see me and do some apple munching. I noticed this one day whilst sitting in the woods and seeing both of them from a distance. I asked Mother when I saw her to bring her new baby and show me. The very next day she brought Little One and of course I was amazed. Little One was still pretty shy though and if you can believe this, had no interest in apples. Well. That changed! Now she’s a front liner. She always gets in the front of the line almost on top of me. She is a real sweetheart. 🌹🌞🌹
I love this! I remember back 30 years ago when my dad was dying of cancer we were out walking in the wilderness when we came across two beautiful doe and one was a fawn. My dad looked back at me and said I wish I would have given you a camera, not a gun when you were young, taught you to take pictures of this beautiful wilderness. Hit me hard and I have never hunted since that day. Hit me hard because they were so beautiful.
Deer are such docile, gentle and essentially trusting creatures, so lovely. Yet, they can be a nuisance. Although I live in Philadelphia, I have encounters with them often as there are many in outlying areas of the city. Chestnut Hill, Mount Airy and Northern Germantown have plenty of them, and they're numerous in Fairmont Park and the Navy Yard, both of which aren't very far from Center City. I've even seen a couple young, apparently lost bucks in the Tacony neighborhood, which is a totally developed area. And, I travel fairly often to the Finger Lakes in New York where there's deer all over the place. I find them adorable to look at...
Where I live, there doesn’t seem to be any signs of overpopulation. Perhaps because there is so much land around here for them to roam. A huge amount of woodlands is owned by the local lumber mill and it just goes on for miles up the mountain. Occasionally you have them darting out into the road but it’s rare. Generally, people around here love the deer. The only thing you can’t really do around here if your yard is not fenced is grow roses or vegetables. At least openly. They just can’t resist that stuff. There have been times where my roses are just starting to bloom and I’m feeling like I’m going to have some nice ones, and then the next day I’ve got nothing but bare stems sticking up. And tomatoes? Forget it unless you grow on the deck, and believe it or not I’ve had some times when the deer have come up on the deck to eat the tomatoes. Oh well. I love having them in my life so I do what I can to just not let that bug me. 🤕
Very happy indeed! 😎 These guys make me laugh uproariously. They’re a funny bunch and when you relax with them and see it up close it’s quite a jolly time! 👯♀️🦌🌞🦌👯♀️
Yeah, me too. It would be awful lonely out here without all these different creatures coming around. I love the birds, raccoons, and deer. I occasionally get some bobcats and they’re amazing. The only creature I don’t encourage is the coyote. Don’t want my cats snatched by them. But all the rest are incredible to see. We get big birds here too, like bald eagles, Turkey vultures, and falcons. It’s pretty amazing.
Oh, do they ever! They just love apples. For a deer to be able to eat apples daily throughout the winter is a rare treat for them. They love it! 🕊🦌🦌🦋🦌🦌🕊
I did indeed. It’s an amazing experience to be around them and to understand how their lives operate. And of course, to just quietly watch, admiring how beautiful they look in the light.
Found you watching cabin girl I liked, commented and waited until the video ended and subbed should be # 157 if it sticks such gentle trusting creatures
that is a pure caring for animals, they loved you there, but I am guessing this is not your first time, they still kept som distance, but the younger just pulled right up, the older does get the less they want to interact, I think that is also true for humans :)
Yeah, it is really nice to be with them. Not my first time. That’s my hill and kind of the central hub for most deer activity. It’s a cool hill. Amazing sounds all around from creatures everywhere. The Mother and her fawn are the most forward and fearless but that took awhile. Now they practically bowl me over if I’m not slicing fast enough! The Twins are always the outliers. They never hand feed but they’re amazingly cool in their own ways and strike the coolest poses while listening. Always listening. The fields and the forests are alive with sound and they take it all in. Thanks for stopping by. 🌻🌾🐇🎩
@@soarornor I just looked it up. Looks delicious but not native to Texas where I am 🍎 Amazing how many chunks you got out of it - thanks for uploading.
I'm not going to forget to get some apples today, if my memory was any worse I'd forget my head. Which variety do your deer seem to enjoy most? It was also nice to see who is responsible for these lovely videos, I hope you have a wonderful week, next Monday I go under the knife and my nerves are really beginning to work themselves up.
Thanks for the kind words. My deer love just about any apple that I bring them. Currently I just got a load of these giant honey crisp apples from Fred Meyer for $1.49 a pound. Also just got some Cosmic Crisp as well from there. Sometimes FM gets too expensive for apples so I go to Winco. They’ve had these amazing large apples called Koru that are also amazing and cheap. It does get rather expensive and I’ve never been through so many apples, but they’re worth it to see the deer so happy. They like Granny Smith apples as well. I just went through a box of pairs that I bought from a fruit wholesaler that is across from Inner Sound (audio/music gear repair) in Clackamas. (Near you, yes?) I don’t remember the name but if you find Inner Sound you can’t miss them. They sell deer apples to lots of people for $15 for a huge box. Finding connections like that is good because the deer just really love apples!
Good luck for your op. I’ve been there. Not the greatest feeling and in fact probably one of the worst. But you’ll be ok. You’ll get through. Just keep thinking about the deer and getting back to them. Even they will be rooting for you. It will be ok.
@@soarornor The sooner I can get around enough to get outside the better. I had surgery back in 2010 to remove some disk, now, they want to put some back in!😂 I should be good as new by the time the new fawns show up, I wouldn't want to miss that.😊
@@soarornor Winco is where I just picked up three different varieties, honey crisp, golden, and pink ladies. I used to work at the one here in Independence, it was a great place to work until my back got to where it is. I'll have to check with some of the fruit stands we have around here to see if they'll have cheaper apples. There are a few wildish apple trees around that I hope will have apples the deer like, if so, I'll hopefully get them before they rot next year.😊
@@wildlifeathome Yeah, there are certainly a lot of wild apple trees out there. I went through a period of trying to collect wild apples but I never seemed to get them at the right time. A little late and shelf life wasn’t very good. Mostly small as well. But you might have better luck. Not near as tasty as the store bought ones. I was feeding them Koru apples today. I’ve only seen these at Winco. They’re very sweet with amazing apple flavor. Of course everyone loves them and they get very excited when those come out! Yeah, apples. I’ve never spent so much on apples in my entire life. It’s worth it though to see the deer so happy. I just went out with my nightvision viewer that I got recently and finally figured out. The Big Buck came around at the end of the day and he must have been sleeping in the field because there he was. Standing though, puzzling over how I could possibly see him. He looked beautiful and radiant in night vision!
do the deer there eat black licorice? the ones where i live will take some from me from time to time, but not every day or even week. on the days some will they thoroughly enjoy it.
Wow. Licorice? That’s weird. I guess they like the taste of fennel. Never have that stuff around. So far, they’re very particular. Apples and grains. I’ve tried carrots but they give me a look that says: “we don’t want no stinking carrots!” So I must comply! 🦌🦋🦌
Those deer seem nice. Thats not the case where i live, got bit feeding a female deer 3 yrs ago at the national park. It was in heat and an 8 point buck ran over and attacked. Now i always bring a whistle in the woods to prevent animal attacks.
Thankfully I’ve never had any problems like that. This crew is friendly but it took a lot of time to get to that point. The Big Buck that shows up is also friendly and the opportunity to get to see and experience deer life up close like this is something I’m most thankful for. This didn’t happen overnight. I’ve lived here for almost 12 years and while I’ve always had friendly relations with the deer, it’s never been quite like this! I guess it’s the magic of always having some apples on hand and learning to walk very slowly around them with a soft voice!
@@davidmeckley3773 The deer know me and I know them. We give each other mutual respect and space. We enjoy each other’s company. The buck that comes to visit is amazing and I’ve never felt any fear of him. Only the Mother and her Little One come super close to me when feeding apples. The overall feeling is just as it appears in the video.
@@davidmeckley3773 Well, I think I’ll be fine. The only big fellow that comes around is still pretty young. He just lost his two point antlers. He’s never thrown me any negative vibe whatsoever and he’s got plenty of room around him to not feel boxed in.
That sounds pretty good! I tried feeding them carrots once and they gave me that look. Weren’t interested at all. They love the Livestock feed that I give them. And Antler Max. That’s got grains and cracked corn in it. But apples. That’s their one true love. 🍎🍎🍎🍎🍎🍎
Liked and subscribed 👍 How wonderful it is to be able to be in the company of deer. Such beautiful animals. The feelings I get are like becoming one with God’s creatures. Nothing but pure love. I live in the Southern parts of the States where deer are hunted for food and sport. Some guys spend thousands of dollars and spend hundreds of hours trying to draw the prey into the kill zone with feed plots, etc. I can’t stomach hunters. You already have everything you need from a grocery store. Enough animals have already been slaughtered for you….all packaged up and waiting for you😞❤️🙏 Why kill more?!😐
If a mean and rude jerk from New York ever sat down where the Amish guy was sitting he would probably take rocks or bottles and throw them at the deer.
@@jeffhampton2767 wow! I feel like a lightweight compared to that. I’ve seen big congregations of elk nearby but never of deer. It’s always small units between 4 to 8. But that’s ok. Somehow it balances out because there’s no overpopulation problem. There used to be lots of elk in my vicinity but years ago someone had a little poaching operation going and ended the run. Such a shame. This was way before I lived here though.
@@soarornor large groups a deer come to the fields in autumn when the corn is harvested, also groups of wild turkey, we do not have a lot of elk in Pennsylvania, they are more out in western United States
@@jeffhampton2767 My friend at Wildlife at home (here on youtube) has wild turkeys that he feeds along with his deer and squirrel friends. That’s so cool to see those guys. I have quail but it’s very hard to get anywhere near quail as they are always on high alert. But I love them. So the corn harvest explains lots of deer in the fields. That’s a good system!
These animals flow through my property as well as others in the area and are already habituated to humans by THEIR own choice. It is puzzling to me that this gets brought up by a few people from time to time. I mean, it might be a big mistake if I was feeding bears, but these are deer. In no way have these animals let down their guard or have come to regard all humans as kind and good. Just like people do, they read you. In my case they decided long ago that I was OK. Also, this kind of feeding is a winter thing when food is scarce. It helps them survive and that’s a good thing. If the need wasn’t there they would not appear. I love and respect animals and getting to know the wild ones is a major thing for me. If I thought for a minute that the relationship was bad for the deer I wouldn’t do it. Most of the neighbors love and feed the deer, the birds and hummingbirds. Much better I think than wanting to kill them. Life is much better on a full stomach, especially in the winter.
I think it’s even. We like being around each other. Sure, they love a walking, slicing apple tree that talks and laughs, but we genuinely have some beautiful quiet times where we just enjoy its others company. I can stop slicing apples and just look at them and they just look back and look around and listen. I’d love to be able to hear and process sound like they do with their directional ears! 🍀🍄🍀
I got a copule f them coming at my garden here in Norway, they seems tolerate my presence when i am far from them , but if i find to get closer they leave quickly. I would really approach them and feed them , even if is not very natural, some tips about it?
I’ve lived here for 11 years. I’ve always been interested in the deer and have photographed them through the years. They’ve always tolerated me and we had an interesting relationship, but never as close as this current group. That one started with the mother. I’m not sure exactly how many years I’ve known her but it’s been a few at least. I started tossing her bits of apple and that’s what built the trust. She would drop by from time to time and it was always interesting. One time I was playing a ukulele and singing in the back yard and she was very amazed by that. Then she brought her little one around for me to meet. That’s always nice! Apples came out and I’d get more and more visits. In the summer they have plenty to eat but in the winter it gets kind of scarce. So I started feeding them livestock grains as a supplement. They like that a lot. So the apple thing got big this year. I buy lots and have them around for when the deer visit. Well, those visits went from one to two a day. And that’s with her two twin daughters from a couple years ago to her current Little One. Then the Bucks started to come but only one shows up often and loves the apples and grains. Out of all the deer, Mother and Little One are the most comfortable being so close. I can hand feed them but that took awhile. The Twins are always outliers but they’ve come closer but never eat out of my hand. That’s ok, I make sure they get their food. The most important thing about getting close to deer (besides apples) is moving slowly and speaking softly. When they get close you have to move real easy. Sudden or normal kind of movement makes them nervous. I love to just sit with them and watch what they do. I can sit quietly and just groove with the quietude of my field. Deer are always listening. Mine are always staring at the forest because there’s probably more deer in there. I’m not sure what they’re expecting but it’s interesting to watch. Anyway, the deer enjoy human company that enjoys and respects them. The closeness comes with time. Check out the Pelorian Pages channel here on youtube. Those people have achieved a closeness with their deer friends that is legendary! Thanks for watching and hope these suggestions work out!
Believe me, these deer know who is friend and who is foe. In the winter when food is scarce, they really benefit from having more nutrition available to them. I don’t really believe in the idea of animals being scared of me. I share the land with them and I help when I can. They have made the decision to come closer but cautiously. Me feeding them will never change that overall caution. It is a beautiful human experience to be able to relate to any wild animal at close range in a giving way. I’d probably take a pass on a bear or mountain lion, but you never know......🌞
@@soarornor there’s a reason why they are called wildlife and not pets. I’ve been a hunter for 55 years. Because of bleeding hearts like you that feed them. Makes them docile. I bet I’ve put 30 in my freezer. Anytime. Anywhere, you feed wildlife and they become less Leary of humans. I’ve seen them walk right up the hunters, asking for food only to become the hunters food. You can give all the bs excuses you want but all you are doing is taking the the wild out of wildlife
