Patches was a paint gelding someone had turned out to fend for himself after he lost his right eye. When we moved to rural Colorado in 2002 we took him in.
We fed apples to the mule deer in winter. A friend had an abandoned apple orchard where we picked 1,000 pounds of windfall apples each year for the deer.
