Welcome to this new AnimalWised video. Today we are going to talk about feeding
rabbits, taking into consideration all of their dietary needs throughout their lives. This
means from the time they are kits, through their adolescence, onto adulthood and even
into old age. Do you have a rabbit? Would you like to know more about what they should
be eating? Perhaps you need to know the difference in feeding a newborn rabbit
compared to an adult rabbit?
Knowing what to feed a newborn rabbit is particularly important if they have been
separated from their mother. Fortunately, in this AnimalWised article we also go into what
diet is needed for an orphaned rabbit.
On AnimalWised you'll discover a high quality channel that's exclusively devoted to the Animal Kingdom. You'll find all sorts of content: from training, diet or beauty and everything that can be useful for you as a pet owner or animal lover. Want to become AnimalWised? Take a look and have fun with us!

I think it is important to mention the different types of hay as not all hay is created equal. When they are less than 6 months old they should have alfalfa hay. Alfalfa hay has too much protein and calcium that can cause obesity in older bunnies. So at six- months of age you want to switch to timothy hay. Also important to mention on the video is that the switch from one type of food to another type of food should be gradual (through a period of two weeks) where you combine both types of food increasing little by little the new one, and decreasing the old one little by little as well. That is important to avoid upsetting their digestive systems, possibly causing GI stasis; GI stasis is very painful for bunnies, and can kill them within 12 to 24 hours if left untreated. It is a vet emergency. For older bunnies, the diet should be 80 to 85% timothy hay (unlimited amounts available 24/7), then a 10% of green leafy vegetables (about the size of a side salad at a restaurant) and finally plain pellets (no colored stuff). Plain pellets should almost be a treat (1 to 2 Tbsp). Also it would have been a good chance to dispel the myth that bunnies diet should be carrots. Carrots are too high in sugar and that can cause their untimely death as overtime it alters the healthy balance of healthy bacteria in their gut, causing GI stasis which could be lethal as described above.

Your one of the first people I've seen say rosmary. My bunny has rosmary in his diet often it's got so many properties and wards off mites. I massage him with it too along with lavender. He has all the others you mentioned too and does lots of twig chewing to keep his teeth down . Willow he loves and herb wise he's herb fed with no other greens due to seizures. Herbs and hay. Treat wise he has blueberry or pear. ( No skin). I'm amazed how I don't see more about rosmary on RU-vid especially the mite thing. Even though mines a house free roam I still be careful as mites are found in hay. These were extreemly cute bunny's indeed. I've never seen one eat orange though

Personally i don't give my rabbits anything green until they are 8 weeks old. By so doing I greatly minimize chances of them suffering from diarrhea or bloated tummies. I also wean my bunnies at the age of 8 weeks and by then most of them will be weighing 2.1kg to 2.3kg. I feed them hay and pellets only until they reach 8 weeks. After that I start giving them greens, including fresh grass and vegetable leaves but in very small quantities for about a month. As for bigger rabbits, i give them mainly pellets and also hay as something to nibble on whenever they feel like chewing something. I should also mention that rabbits that feed on pellets mainly taste much nicer than rabbits that eat greens and hay mainly.

what do you suggest for one month year old bunnies
@BestFarmingTips
@BestFarmingTips 3 года назад
@@crazyyolo4917 I do have one month old rabbits as we speak, and I'm giving them hay and pellets only. They will start eating greens when they reach 2 months mark, by then they would have grown old and i will give them greens very sparingly. I should also highlight that you can give your rabbits 100% pellets and no hay, and they will grow just fine, without any issues at all.

If you’re going to make videos about rabbits, how they should live or what they should eat. MAYBE CONSIDER EDUCATING YOURSELF ON THE TOPPIC BETTER. People watch you videos and they take your advise. HALF OF THE THING MENTIONED IN THIS VIDEO ARE COMPLETELY WRONG AND MUST NEVER BE DONE!!!! Rabbits In a cage , rabbits drinking out of a water bottle ??? ARE YOU ACTUALLY KIDDING ME !!!

@jessicacorr104
@jessicacorr104 4 года назад
rabbits need to be freely able to walk around your house once its rabbit proofed or at least need a large dog pen it's also better for them to drink out of a dog or cat bowl cause the other ones a and have bacteria and they can stop working.

I’m sorry, rabbits should NOT be in a cage or hutch. They need a lot of space. I mean you would not put a dog or cat in a cage so why a rabbit. You can keep you bun in a play pen if big enough, but the best thing you can do is to free roam🐰
