Most Belgians have a knob of a tail, yours has a beautiful tail.❤

Yes you see that a lot in the fancy/show hitch world but rarely with working horses. The knob means they tend to be docked (part of the tail bone cut at an early age) - but not always. It's unfortunate as a couple of our percheron have docked tails and while they grow some tail hair, it's nothing compared to the others who aren't docked. It's a challenge here as this is their natural fly swatter and we have heavy fly pressure.

You really use the horses smartly for all kinds of chores on your farm. And they stand well, too. I am amazed, though, to see the chickens run with the pigs. These pigs are quite hardy, certainly hardier than poultry. On occasion pigs have killed hens and eaten them. I do like the way you keep your pigs, very natural! You and your dad are the kind of farmers of whom we need more.

Thanks!! We've never had an issue with pigs killing our chickens - and yes the breeds we have are known for their hardiness!

No worries - we only let them open to a trot or lope, and only where we can tell they are still hitting/kicking up gravel...things aren't as snow packed as they appear as we only got hit last week with our first real snow. We try to manage training them with their footing and let them adapt as ground conditions change so we can avoid shoeing while maintaining adequate traction.
