SO SO SO glad I found your video today. I'm working on a project just like this. I just placed my order for the controller. Thanks for posting your video. :) You setup is awesome by the way. :)
Wow! Nice setup. I've been looking to add a motor to mine for those days that I'm on a lake or in open water. Your setup is definitely the best so far. Thank you for the information.
Bro sweet job !!! I like the motor release, due to that fact that other people I’ve seen don’t latch so I always wondered what they did when they put it in reverse
Great video. I am the owner of a feelfree 11.5 and would be glad to buy a complete set of it. I live in Mauritius. For practical reasons, probably without the battery which can be bought locally.thks for helping
Dominant31 Thank you very much for answering me. You did great. If you get some time in the future, i'll be glad to possess one like what you've done. You just give me the price and and postage expenses. Thanking you again. Kind regards to you. Percy
Great video, thank you so much for putting together. Its the main one Dad/I are using to build out my kayak. We're about 70% done. About to do the wiring. The wires coming from motor.... The motor spins with power to black/red with nothing at all attached to 3rd and 4th wire. Do you have to attach those? Thank you Craig
This would be a nice set up if sitting facing to the stern as if you are using Oars. Well yes add oars as well. I wish a company would make it happen. :)
Very, Very Smart!! The Battery inside is a great plus, absolutely superb!! congrats!! The rudder motor control in your foot rest is coming standard with the kayak?
Great video. Wish I'd have found it sooner. As one of the other comments said, I've found my winter project. Just a couple of questions if you have time. Did you bump up the wire gauge to go from the front of the kayak to the back? Also when you transport do you remove the battery or leave it in your kayak. Thank you.
Badass video brother. I saw the WTP 12-P controller on another video and ordered myself one a couple days ago. Can't wait for it to come in. Have you noticed increased battery life with yours??
really great video so thanks, can i ask a couple of questions, it looks like you had to cut a large panel out for the rear to attach the motor bracket, where did you get the replacement sealed unit? also mi think that you said that you also reduced the length of the motor, how is that done? also how easy was it to remove the handle from the motor? any advise would be great as looking to try and replicate as this is the best motor set up i have seen.
I didnt have to cut anything out to attach motor bracket. Only thing I cut was a hole for the access hatch and a smaller hole for the minn kota plug. Shaft is easily shortened by popping the head off the motor and cutting shaft then redrilling a hole for the screw that mounts the head. Handle is easily shortened by taking head apart and removing the collapsible handle.
I've had my feelfree ll.5 for a couple years now and been searching for this exact setup, good job...how much money was invested in this? Wish there was a complete how to lol
Brian Ruggiero thanks for commenting glad you liked it. I used stainless steel hardware for the terminals. I've had it out for 6+ hrs running intermittently on high and alot at slower speeds and still had juice left over. The PWM really saves your battery because you can fine tune your speed
Dominant31 thanks for the info. ordered the wtp pwm controller, going to put it inside an ammo box like you did. great idea! just trying to figure out which battery to go with. I've got a 46lb thrust motor and I'll be mostly in the ocean so I was thinking 75ah but I really don't want all that weight. Thanks for your help
Very informative! Thanks. I just bought one like it and I am going fix my motor on it. Can you give me the dimension of your battery and the Amp. ? Do you feel she is the right one fr your need?
Hey your trolling setup is seriously nice. I'm also interested the trolling setup from the friend you said removed the head from the minn Kota, I think his name was Tyler.
Donald Payne so the difference is that he removed the head and moved the switch that controls the speed, reverse and forward, into a separate box bolted to the same ammo box as mine. He had to extend all 4 wires, vs 2 in my case, that come up the shaft of the motor to the front hatch. Essentially you get the same thing but his is a bit more expensive because you have the cost of extra wires and the more expensive 4 prong plug and receptacle.
Dominant31 thanks for the info, I will use you idea instead of his. Can you tell me size of the screws you've used for fattening the custom bracket. Sorry one more thing. What about the size of the lift bracket
Amazing! I wish I could build all that myself on my Thresher. It is a bit overwhelming. Not sure how you wired the circuit breaker to the battery or the controller. Great job though. What size is that battery? ...and are the connections you created on the box for red and black, the same that is used for coaxial cables?
Like your video. Thinking of doing something like this. The battery is my concern how does one know what AH to get. How long on a average can you run on the 35AH?
I would say a 35ah is the smallest I would recommend. Bigger battery means more weight but bigger battery equals more run time. I could get a solid 6 hrs out of mine but I'm also usually running it very slow while I'm pitching and flipping brush and flooded trees on smaller lakes.
Nice setup. Just got through ordering mine from Austin City Kayak. Same color but a 13.5. Any chance you can make a video and show the metal braket without the transom mount? Thanks. Subscribed.
Nice setup, well done. As you mentioned that this motor is more than enough, do you have a video of it running in the water? What could be expected as speed and etc?
The purpose of this build was not speed. Your limited anyway by the design of this hull. It was strictly built for versatility especially being able to run and control the motor while standing
Brandon Duke I've had alot of requests for the bracket and pin build. once I get some time I might knock out a couple dozen sets. I'll keep you in the loop if that happens
That's what I thought. one other question I went in their website and it said something about a dispatcher unit or something like that did you need that on your motor or is it just marketing crap? Thanks!
If you are that far out. I would carry an extra battery. I bet if your battery did die that far out. The first thing you would buy would be an extra battery. You can also consider a solar panel battery charger. But that extra battery wouldn't hurt on top of that.
jayrough I have a cable from one of the tie down hooks in the bed of my truck to a big caribiner that hooks to my front handle and doesn’t let the yak come off the end of the tailgate. I just get the bow up and hook it to the caribiner and simply walk back to the back of the kayak and push it in. Made it soooooo much easier. I also use the stand assist strap to help get the bow up.
I like it but its probably the most complicated troller motor set up i e seen on a kayak. You basically need a machine shop and a engineering degree to do this setup lol! Ive seen some kayak that they litterly got the same results but a lot less work. So it would definitely not be one to try and imitate. I can tell he spent a lot of time on it.
Wireless trolling motor pro are no good. Had to send mine in 4 times, each time they kept it anywhere from 2-6 months at a time. Bought an honest wireless control last time they replaced it with a wired one but never gave me any money back and it lasted less than a day on the water. Not one time on the water did it work correctly for more than 1 hour on the water. Stuck wide open in reverse one time on a 55 pound thrust trolling motor that they said it would work on. Live and learn from my mistake. Do not buy a wireless trolling motor pro.
Great video. Love everything except recommending wirelesstrollingpro company. I went with them because of this video. Poor quality parts and the worst possible customer service you can imagine. Takes weeks of follow ups to get a response. Even then, they are willing to lie. Do not trust this company!
