@@luuuuux_ I absolutely loved the books, but to be fair I read them a long time ago. I watched the show Anne with an E too, but I wouldn't compare the two. The show changed a lot of things and discussed more modern issues instead of telling the story L. M. Montgomery wrote. The show added plot points and characters (like Cole and Bash) that weren't in the books, and they changed some characters to fit into their shows better (like I don't think Diana could speak French in the books). To me, they are completely different stories with similar characters. I think you should read the first one (Anne of Green Gables) and decide for yourself if it's any good. In my opinion, the books are great :D

My list of feel good books: Princess Academy by Shannon Hale. This one is a childhood favorite, but still holds up today. The writing is so beautiful, simple but with such a nice melodic rhythm to it. And I will forever love the setting of Mount Eskell. It's one of the books where reading it feels like coming home. Dragon Slippers by Jessica Day George. This is another childhood favorite about a girl who ends up with a pair of slippers made of dragon hide that have strange abilities. It's just so much fun to read and the character dynamics never fail to make me smile. All Creature Great and Small by James Herriot. I don't think any book can cheer me up as well as this one. It's a semi autobiographical story about a vet in Yorkshire in the 1940's. Herriot captures the eccentricities of human nature so well and I have never laughed out loud so much from a book as I have with this one. Last but not least is Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen (or Emma. I can't choose) I adore all of Austen's novels but this one holds a special place in my heart. The humor is amazing and the interactions between Catherine and Mr. Tilney always have me grinning like an idiot.

Wait, "And Then There Were None" is COZY?! I was more terrified by that book than any horror film I've ever watched...but then again, Merphy reads dark books, so maybe for her it is fine. For me, though, the murders were brutal and the fact that they were based on a nursery rhyme creeped me out so much! The only cozy murder mystery I can think of is "Hercule Poirot's Christmas"...mostly because of the setting and time.

My favorite feel good book is The Ten Thousand Doors of January. It is a beautifully written light fantasy focused on a girl who is separated from her family and doesn't fit in where she is, and goes forward into discovery, adventure, and just really focuses on the relationships/family theme. I love this book so much. Good thing I sent it to you!😄💛

I’d say that some of my feel good books are: Percy Jackson by Rick Riordan. No matter how many times I read it, I feel like I’m going home and am hit by nostalgia and it feels amazing. Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz. This book is amazing. Can’t stress it enough. Circe by Madeline Miller. This book just gives me all the feels. It feels calm and yet also feels sad and happy and just a bunch of emotions(for me). Anything by Enid Blyton and Roald Dahl. They’re just amazing. The Alchemist by Paolo Coelho. This book is absolutely amazing and I would recommend it to everyone. A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett. This book is so sad yet it warms my heart because it’s absolutely amazing. Also, everyone remember to take care of yourself by drinking enough water, eating at least once a day and by taking time for yourself. Remember, you are loved and valid. I love you. I love a good YA book for a bit of the feel-goods. Sanderson definitely spoils us with some good YA characters and friendships, the Skyward and Reckoners books often swept me away in giddy excitement! It probably also helped that I first read those series’ after each of my kids was born - it’s hard to beat cuddling a sleepy newborn and reading some lighthearted Sanderson! Right now, I get a strange level of enjoyment out of some of the bedtime stories I read with my 3 year old. It amazes me the depth you can find in very simple books. She has this little book that says something along the lines of “Magic is not unknown to us, you just have to know where to find it...” and it goes on to talk about the magic in everyday life. It charms my socks of every time we read it ☺️

- Surviving the Applewhites by Stephanie S. Tolan is my favorite feel-good middle grade book. Could read that one over and over. - A favorite from my childhood would be the Poppleton series by Cynthia Rylant. The messages are simple but heartwarming and the illustrations are lovely and quaint. - For the beach town theme, I've been enjoying the Pelican Cove cozy mystery series by Leena Clover. - The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud deals with grief but I really felt comforted by it, and it also takes place in a seaside town. - Definitely agree with the Harry Potter series and Jane Austen novels. I also love the Hobbit because it's adventurous but still very charming. - Currently, I'm half way through Starting Over at Acorn Cottage by Kate Forster which is technically a romance I think. Not sure how it ends but so far it's been a very cozy and comforting story. Seems like most of my picks deal with starting over fresh in one way or another, I guess we all need a fresh start in 2021.

P.G. Wodehouse in general, and the Jeeves & Wooster stories in particular, are prime "feel good" reading (and work well as audiobooks).

When you're done with reading Good Omens, you gotta watch the Amazon show! I love it so so much, and David Tennant and Michael Sheen are definitely part of the reason for that 😂❤️

Oh. Oh boy, yes I sure do have cozy beach town recs. I recommend Huntley Fitzpatrick for 3+ books set in the same town (first is my favorite). Also, This Is What Happy Looks Like by Jennifer E Smith.

The House in the Cerulean Sea was my fave book of 2020, and got me super into TJ Klune as an author (I’ve since read 2 other series by him). He’s written everything from adult romantic LGBTQ+ fantasy to middle grade superhero novels and has got a wonderful way of writing characters and bringing them to life in a way thats simultaneously so deeply touching and humorous

Song of Achilles is very cozy to me- romance that overcomes everything and two people who truly love each other. Also The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet, fun, quirky space adventure!

The Anne of the Green Gables series is one of the coziest things ever, it's like a warm hug Pretty much anything by Agatha Christie is cozy, but maybe the coziest are the Miss Marple books And if you want more cozy murder mysteries, there's a middle grade series called Murder Most Unladylike by Robin Stevens, it's about two girls detecting in the 1930s and it's so delightful I'm also reading I Capture the Castle right now, I haven't finished it but it seems cozy so far, and I saw most people say it is And Matilda by Roald Dahl is one of my all time favourites ever since I was little

For cozy beach town, I like Echoes by Maeve Binchy and really anything by Maeve Binchy. Echoes follows Clair as she grows up in a small beach town in Ireland that swells in size during the summer and struggling to want more in life than to just live in this small town. It's got a lot of small-town drama but also shows the secrets we hold to save face with our small town. The ending would be considered "Problematic" for today's standards, but I love reading this book when I want to just escape for a little while. Also, the Port Danby series by London Lovette is a novella series of small beach town murder mysteries that are cute.

Memoirs of an Imaginary Friend by Matthew Dicks is my all-time favorite book, and I would describe it as a bittersweet feel-good book. The writing is a bit simplistic and takes some getting used to, but the story of Max and Budo and their friendship and Budo's immense growth is lovely and makes me cry every time.

For cozy mysteries I recommend the novels of Mary Stewart. She wrote “romantic suspense” starting in the 1950’s. Her heroines are plucky and courageous and the books have a delightful old-fashioned feel. In particular “The Ivy Tree” is fantastic, with a surprising twist I hadn’t seen before. Also “Thornyhold” about a woman finding her witchy powers is fun. I also recommend “The Thursday Murder Club” by Richard Osman as a recent cozy mystery - it’s set in a retirement community in England, very funny and surprisingly moving.

You Should See Me in a Crown and Beach Read were the coziest books I read last year. I don’t read a lot of YA but absolutely adored You Should See Me in a Crown.

To those of you looking for a good cozy mystery: the Inspector Gamache series by Louise Penny (starting with Still Life) is truly astounding. Set in a Québec village that rivals Hogwarts as the most inviting fictional setting, this series follows a brilliant and tender-hearted detective as he investigates murders, gets to know the locals, and eats wonderful food. The prose is lovely but concise, and the characters are warm and kind (mostly). It is a cozy mystery series written with the grace and sophistication of literary fiction. There are 16 books out so far, and she publishes a new one every autumn.

I loved Still Life! Unlike most mysteries it really focused on the life of the victim, what an interesting person she was and how much she affected everyone else in the town. You really feel how much people loved her and what a profound loss it was when she died. I haven’t read the other books in the series but I plan to read more at some point.

My childhood favorites, read and reread multiple times: The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas and Seacrow Island by Astrid Lindgren. Oh, yes for Discworld any book, but the most feel good probably is The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents by Terry Pratchett Second Hand Curses by Drew Hayes - funny twist on fairy tales. Chief Inspector Armand Gamache Series by Louise Penny falls in that Warm and Cozy Environmental Books category Tomorrow, When the War Began by John Marsden - it could be worse category, and every time they get lucky at the end. And my personal latest comfort read is Dr. Siri Paiboun Series by Colin Cotterill
