Hello! I’ve been acting since 6 years now. I worked as a lead actress in South Indian film industry, and after getting work too, i feel i am not reaching the success that i want. I am broke, and now no more works been coming my way since past 6 months. I’ve been auditioning for tv shows too, but I feel I should give up. My debut film failed at the box office, though i got really good reviews by the local media here. I feel confused and frustrated.

Hi Richa. This is the life of an actor. It is either feast or famine. Sometimes you go many months with no projects. Sometimes big projects don't pan out. And often you can't make a full time living from acting and the arts. There are simply too many other people out there and not enough quality work to go around. This is something you should expect for the length of your career. That said, it already sounds like you are doing more work than most actors out there. You have a film under your belt and you keep putting yourself out there. You can not control how an audience will accept a film or television show or theater piece, you can only do your best. Learn what you can from the experience and pick up and move on. It is confusing and frustrating, but the longer you stick with it, the more successes you will see and they will build momentum over time. But it truly is not for everyone and if you feel discouraged and don't think it's worth continuing, there's no shame in stopping. But if you really love it, keep at it. Take those good reviews you got from the media and splash them all over your website, take the positive from every project you do. Start treating auditions like a chance to perform and put no weight into the outcome of them. And realize you are in a very large game and it is not an easy game to win. You have to think of it over the long haul in order to stand a chance and expect that you will have long periods of time without work. Find something you love to do and do it in that time. Use that time to hone your skills and travel or visit with friends and family and live your life as all of that will help you when you return to your next project. I wish I could give you a magic wand, but this is how things are and you have to decide if you want to keep playing the game for yourself.

@@AugmentedActor Thank you for very helpful reply. :) I worked in total 2 films as a lead actress in the span of 3 years. My dad believes in me and he feels i must not quit now and give myself 6 months more to see if any movies come my way. I’ve always wanted to see myself on the big screens and i made it happen. I am really just stuck between getting financially independent or following my dreams. I feel like a loser cause I’m broke and I see all my friends having stable jobs. I know I chose this life to myself but I always thought it won’t take so much longer to get there. I really got lucky in lockdown time that’s when I started getting movie offers and now it’s all going crazy since a year. I have decided to give myself another 6 months or else I’m gonna switch to being a flight attendant. I just need a stable income and wanna get married someday and i feel i have very less years to live my life to the fullest. Acting will always be my first love since I was a kid I dreamt of that life. But now i see it’s time to get practical and make the most out of the given time to survive further. And I won’t feel any shame to leave it because I’m doing it for myself. I can always go back to acting anytime if I feel like. Thank you so much again for giving me advice 💛 Definitely helped me.

@@richajoshi4018 Best of luck in your journey and you are right, you can always put a pause on acting to pursue another career and pick it up again at a later date or you can do both at the same time. Pursue acting as a side hobby while you bring in income from another job. Hope you can make some progress in the next 6 months!

people who do commericials are not actors. They are just liars, saying that they like the products.
@AugmentedActor

I see your point, but that's not always true. Certainly actors have done commercials for products they don't really use, but a lot of actors will only work on commercials for products they do use. Many actors don't consider commercials to be real acting and just do them to make ends meet in between "real" acting gigs. However, commercial work requires a very specific skill set and is not easy work. While you can't often dig into a character and your acting style is a little larger than life, it still requires acting skills to pull it off convincingly. And many famous actors do commercials or did commercials as a start to their careers. And I really don't like when actors are called liars. Because it implies that we are deceptive people or use our acting skills to lie in real life. If you can say that a commercial actor is a liar you can say that of any stage or movie actor. After all, we are lying by assuming the role of someone we are not and saying words written by others and doing actions laid out by others all for the purpose of creating an illusion for an audience to hopefully believe. I consider both commercial and film and stage acting to be the business of creating an illusion for an audience. one is just used for the purposes of selling a product to the audience. They are all forms of deception in some way or another.
