I just finished installing this mod on my Lure 10. Thank you so much for posting this video, I absolutely love it! It's perfect in every way. For those interested, here is a complete price breakdown for all parts necessary for this project: Minn Kota 30 lb. thrust motor: $99.99 Weize 12 V 75 ah battery: $144.99 Newport smart battery box: $65.00 Marine silicone sealant: $7.96 1" hollow drill bit: $15.71 1 1/8" hollow drill bit: $10.38 Quick connector wires: $11.30 Battery connector eyelet (6): $3.95 5 feet of 8 gauge wires: $13.48 Yakattack through hull wiring kit: $19.95 Trolling motor female plug: $26.99 Trolling motor male plug: $21.99 Grand total: $441.69 That price includes everything I could possibly think of that I had to use, save for the power drill. This is much cheaper and a way better setup than the pedal drive system. I know virtually nothing about electrical work but I had no problems whatsoever installing this mod. This and the other video posted are fantastic guides, follow them and you can't go wrong!
@@jnewc4130 Hail yeah! I'm really happy I got the 10, it's lighter and so easy to haul around. Plus, the benefit of having a longer kayak is that it tracks better, which doesn't really matter if you don't have to paddle!
I’ve just bought the moken 12.5 v2, and I’ve fitted the minn Kota riptide 45 lb thrust motor. Drops in through scupper just fine. I drop it through scupper at a slight angle, but prop and motor body go through scupper just fine.
Thanks for making the video! Love how you adapted the Minn Kota trolling motor to fit the FeelFree and made sure you provided all the equipment links. Much appreciated.
I just bought this kayak and I will be putting a trolling motor on mine as well. Sweet video. Going to have to find your other video on the trolling motor install
Your set up is amazing. I have the same kayak as you and have been looking on a cheaper way of equipping it with a trolling motor than the feel free pedal system and battery motor. Just need you to come to Georgia to install all of that for me!!!
Hey bro. I have a 12 ft PDL DRIVE HYBIRD. Which if I take out my pedals, the 46lb thrust trolling motor fits in the same clips as the PDL DRIVE. So i always have my PDL on board. Bu i have a new 2.5 hp Suzuki outboard 4 stroke motor. ISLAND HOPPER OUTBOARDS. Specializes in side and rear transom mounts, especially. For the FEEL FREE Models. I was going to get the feel free moken V2, but it only came with the boat itself, and ki wanted storage for my hull. But that boat is my favorite, with that color. My outboard weighs 28lbs, maybe 30lbs tops with fuel. The transom mount is amazing. I fish a large lake, and finally am able to get away from boat traffic, and tuck into my spot's. I weigh 153 5ft 7" I've had her close to 11mph, depending what's on my deck and storage for certain day's. Everyone is going with the 2.5 outboard. I see them in all kinds of vessels. If there done right, gane changer.🤟🎣🙏
Bro, love the vessel, however. You can put 3 minn-kota motors at once, you'll still be at 5 mph max. Thrust is to move weight, heavier your boat, than you need a higher thrust motor. I have a hoodoo impulse 10.5, because I only wanted a 10 1/2 boat. I Love this kayak. I have a feel free side mount transom, 2.5 Suzuki outboard, and a 7ft designed outrigger, Garmin striker FF. With gps. I weigh about 150lbs, 5' 7". I had my kayak up to 11.7 mph. I wanted the motor, because I fish a 1200 acre lake. To get me to all my spots. I didn't want to deal with battery weight, wondering how much juice is left etc. I usually just troll around about 6 mph, and always have my 2 gallon gas container on board. Go 4 stroke, if you want speed. And you can gave more cockpit room, and less battery weight.
So when you get to shallow water can you tilt the motor so it won't bottom out or do you have to take motor right out ,been looking at the feel free kayak for some time now I'm just thinking of the best way to mount the motor , I was thinking of mounting it on the side using the two rod holders behind the seat make some kind of trolling motor mount and this way you can just tilt the motor out of the water ,buy the way boat looking awesome 😀😉
In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens ru-vid.comUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.
Thank you for the video- great work- what is the name / brand of the electrical terminal in front of the boat in the storage area where the wires plug into.
Greetings, I was wondering if you can describe in the front hatch area if that is a power distribution and how you have it’s hooked up? Originally I was thinking it was a terminal & din rail set up. I like the setup & I’m currently thinking how I would like my kayak to be done. SEE YA ON THE WATER
Nice set up. I am thinking f getting the same kayak to replace my Colorado pontoon. Can you tell me the exact dimensions of the "pd hole" so as I can measure my Minn Kota motor to see if it will fit please?
So are you steering with paddles or the motor? Also curious how hard it is to take it back out I’m going to be on some shallower rivers and it would be nice to be able to pull it out
Brother, I did see the Endura at Walmart and I wasn’t sure if it would fit but it does. Are you able to send me the rest of the parts that you purchased? Please
Its got a breaker built in on the battery box. But, i do need to wire in a killswitch in case i fall overboard... i dont want the kayak to go byebye lol 😂
Was the old motor not strong enough? I installed an watersnake 18 on my Lure 11.5 and connected a speed control to it for infinite variability of the motor 5.6 KPH/ 3.5MPH(with the run of tide) has been my max but I feel happy to get that at 18A max amperage. It makes my homemade 35AH Li Ion battery last a full 2 hours going full power. I installed the motor by cutting down the shaft and making it short enough to fit inside the sonar pod without it protruding out the top. Than I dismantled the head of the trolling motor and installed the forward reverse switch in the front of the sonar pod along with the speed controller which allows me to still install a fishfinder like normal. I might need to install the transducer to the bottom of the motor though. All up I got away with about $ 180.00 aussie dollars to get me mobile
Yup, I was gonna do a trolling motor on mine but not worth going through the trouble to register it in NC.😭 Have to pay $1000 to peddle it.🙄 Guess the fact I get some exercise still is cool at least.
Sooo this kayak didn’t come with that hole cut out in the middle correct? That black storage tray was what came in there? So you had to cut the hole out?
Have you found the plastic sonar box provides enough strength to handle the torque of the motor? Any problems there or a need to reinforce it in some way?
So , you have a v1 , but the rudder you linked is rudder for v2 . So , is that the rudder you used ? I wondered if anything was different with rudder for v1 and v2 .
Too bad id have to go through yhe hassle of registering the yak with a trolling motor in NC.😭 Had everything in my cart and was ready to buy it. Then at the last second i checked guidelines and sure enough, has to be registered as a boat. Pretty dumb. Fairly certain Colorado, where i lived mosty life, doesnt have that rule.
I have a lure 10 and put a 50 lbs thrust. It takes sometime removing it but it works great. The question I have now is, how do you keep the motor from moving side to side? I seen your other video with the sevylor motor. But how’d you do it with the Minn Kota?
upgrading to larger motor, can't you just remove the motor and reinstall on the kayak? would take a bit longer to setup when you get to the water... but 30 pounds is too big for my kayak i have to put both my feet in the water lol
love it ,, perfect in all ways .. but honestly just took the fun out of it ,, you could've just bought a boat and be done with it ^.^" kayak spouse to be fun simple thing ,, anyway love the build so creative
Hello . I don’t do fishing . My wife and I love to go to kayak just for fun with our dog . We’d love to have a kayak with pedal drive . Do you think this kayak is too much for us ?
I had a big problem. I bought the same motor and put it in the same position as you. But when I got into the water, my kayak couldn't walk in a straight line and kept turning around
Killer setup. Would you do measurements for me on the hole for the trolling motor? I just bought a 2 propeller Newport vessel trolling motor wanted to know if it’ll fit before pulling the trigger
V Nice. Getting a 6-700$ kayak. How much am I looking at to install a Minkota on top of kayak price. This method of fishing seems affordable. Lmk. Thanks
@@KeepFishingForward ended up getting a steal on a crescent ultralite. Couldn’t pass it up. So far I’ve only seen a couple pictures of side mounts done. One was a Newport vessel mount. I’m going to paddle it for a while as I won’t be doing serious fishing every trip.
@@KeepFishingForward i saw a youtuber mount a trolling motor like a rudder so he could steer with his feet... Pretty sweet setup, but i wanted to keep my rudder and be able to go paddle-power...
