Hi Ania! I'm a graphic designer who has also recently started her content creation journey (I'm in LinkedIn for now). And I greatly appreciate this video. You shouldn't be shocked by the amount of traction you're getting because right out the gate you're producing valuable content, with authenticity and personality. You clearly have an idea of what you're doing (posting regularly, good thumbnails, well-paced editing, clean audio), so I hope you don't discount any success you're getting and will clearly get in the future! Super happy I found you early on in the process, definitely rooting for you as you transition from student to full-time designer!
I am an artist and a graphic designer who's just starting their freelance career as well, and I always thought about documenting my process; but unfortunately I don't have the materials or the space for that. I came across your videos and I love them they're so real and relatable, you gave me a boost to keep going even though my mind is telling me that I don't know how to do a lot of things, but I am going to discover them on the way. Keep doing your thing, I believe that you're going places. So much love ❤️.
I just wanted to tell you first of all, thanks for being so open and genuine. I agree that we go to our phones or Netflix or whatever as a distraction, but also part of being creative is about getting inspiration in everything. Maybe the show you end up bingewatching can give you ideas about a video, poster or anything else. I agree that to much of anything is bad, but also we can´t be watching instructive material all the time because then we wouldn´t feel as inspire as when you are listening to your favorite song for example. Hope everyting made sense.
I certainly relate to the procrastination piece. Thank yo for sharing! Time blocking doesn't really work for me but I do agree with building a routine. Thank you for sharing your journey! Certainly nice to know you are not alone on journey.
I am truly impressed by how you manage to tell such compelling stories and maintain such high video quality despite being a RU-vidr for only a month or two. It’s insanely impressive! I’m glad I found your channel and have been following you for a few weeks now. I would love to learn how you do it. ✌️
I had a similar experience last week. I tried designing a character with friends and ended up redrawing her three times. I felt pressured to make it perfect for posting, which made me uncomfortable with my art style. So, I decided to revisit drawing basics to feel better about my art and be more patient with myself! Anyway, Congrats on your progress! 👏👏👏👏
Look at it this way, perfection depends on the scope, lets say you want to make a poster with a 3 weeks deadline, then you will perfect to death, or a poster with 1 day deadline, then it will be a quickie. One advice is to look about getting external resources and references in larg amounts so you can make the quickie design nice quickly cuts time. Also never the world perfect just scope and deadline.
Love being able to see your journey from the beginning! I'm also in the process of picking up freelancing again for motion design after a couple of years being in-house. I used to struggle with perfectionism too where I wasn't willing to put anything out unless I was happy with it, but after having clients and tight deadlines, that feeling goes away haha. You're doing great!!!
Such a great message. You can achieve anything as long as you believe it's possible. Might have try out the lockscreen vision board idea!:) You got this!
Really love following your journey Ania. I'm in the process of reviving my creative journey and I feel like I have a friend who's relating to my struggles and stuff. Congrats on your wins! ❤🎉
Link to your website? As a beginner designer, I procastinate because of me not having hands-on high-end devices. The 2-5 min lag and limitation to certain features in the software I use demotivates me very much :(
after one year you'll take a look at your business card and say this is the most unattractive business card design ever 🤣 , but that will be the beginning of a massive development to your career , thank you for the efforts your doing so good 👏👏
Omg yes... pretty much for any design ever. But somehow a really rewarding feeling when it happens because that means you progressed as a designer! Thank you
The most important thing is also the thing most creatives don't like. We, as creatives, need to learn to sell and I think a lot us fail to realize how important it is and that it doesn't need to be perfect. It's of course not fun, if selling/networking is really out of the comfort zone, but the sooner the better, if the goal is fulltime freelance. So I think working on a website, business cards, etc. is of course great, but you probably need to put in front of people or just really focus on selling. Even if you haven't made your portfolio, the training of selling is great and then later on inbound leads will hopefully come in terms of asking for your service, but in the beginning outbound is just necessary in some way. Are you doing anything already in terms of calling business, talking to potential leads through linkedin or going for networking events? I'm really not asking in a negative way, since it's definitely something I struggle with myself, but if I'm not honest about it to myself, I keep finding more I can do except the actual selling part. Unfortunately it's not always the best design that people buy, but more the ones that actually make them realize what they need and put themself out there in front on businesses or decision makers. When that's said it's very inspiring to watch and follow a long!
Thanks for your comment! Absolutely, I agree with everything that you mentioned, and it is a very difficult topic. Definitely is something I think about a lot too and how I can keep pushing myself out there. I'm proud to say that I have been doing some networking (hint on next video 😉) but 100% it can be improved upon. It is also kind of scary to "sell yourself", but I'm hoping that over time it will get easier. I am not really pushing it so much now, because I know I don't have the time capacity this month (thesis...), however, I would love to hear insights and tips from fellow creatives!
It seems like she is being put in front of people! Putting herself out there on RU-vid and other social media channels. You never know who can view her channel. I do marketing and it's part of my responsibility to show decision-makers at my company which creators we should reach out to, so I think this is a great tactic.
@@hatexspinnerbait It's definitly a great tactic! It's probably just a bit more long-term, so it could be supported by a more short-term tactic like selling. But I'm not saying that it's easy to sell or that it's a bad tactic to market yourself on social media. I'm just saying that I think she'll be able to make more money by focusing more on "selling" activities that are short-term like calling up company owners, running ads, cold emailing, etc. I think it's very inspiring to follow a long though!
