I still remember when billie demanded bird food. Kendra thought billie wanted to hunt for a bird, and billie was like "no" "work" (billie meant she wanted wet food). I thought billies "no""work" was an expression of "are you insane?! I would have to work for that!"
This has the same energy as "I can't reach the remote that is on the table less than two feet away and would take minimal effort to get. But I'm soooo comfy/ low on energy, I just... can't."
Well, cats have difficulty seeing things that are directly in front of their nose, because of where their eyes are etc. On the other hand, they can easily smell a treat, and their whiskers let them feel what's there, so that is no reason why Billi wouldn't be able to find them. I think she just wasn't in the mood.
I had a German shepherd who would do the same with these food toys. She was 10 times smarter than her adopted lab mix brother. He would be completely done and she’d be still staring at me to just give her the food. It was stubborn indignation that I expected her to work for it. I think she was too smart for the toy 😅
I used to have a cattle dog that was incredibly smart. He would do "the sad face" for treats, and it was hilarious. "Okay Ringo, look sad!" He would hang his head, roll his eyes up at me and slowly blink and stick his tongue in and out. Soon as he got the treat he would grin and look at me like, "Ha! Gotcha sucker!" I had him 15 years. I sure miss that sweet boy.
Totally! Brain teasers are to try to stretch the poor cognitive skills of her Madjesty’s slave, not the other way around! Cunning behavior is all Billi needs in life, with a side of adorableness
With toddlers this is like throwing a need-object on the floor (their water, their favourite toy) it is a request for reassurance. Will you be there? Will you always be there? Mom? Dad was away... do you go away? Maybe she is just checking the way a toddler would. She is so dear. And a hoot.
@@ferretyluv there's definitely a lot of parallels, but I've become hesitant to say it in a way like you did, because some people seem to think I mean it as a scathing insult. 😔
@@mirjanbouma That sucks. I have had the same experience. It's not an insult, it's an accurate observation. Depending on the individual, dogs are as intelligent as a 3 to 5 year old human child. That is a scientific fact, not an insult. If think a toddler is as smart as my dog, (who could have been trained into a service dog) that is a compliment, not an insult. 😔
Awww billi is a complete treasure watched billi's video now that I'm home I worked today I love watching billi videos to relax when I get home from a day's work Monday thru Friday kisses to billi 💋
She's so pretty, she reminds me of my first cat who was also a grey tortoise shell with dainty white paws like Billi. My cat loved classical music and behaved like royalty, so my dad named her "Princess Pupule" after a character in a song he heard while stationed in Hawaii during WWII. Just last year, I found the song on RU-vid and got a good laugh! Dad pulled a fantastic "dad joke" on me. It seems that "Princess Pupule" in the suggestive song was a lady of ill repute. "Princess Pupule has plenty papayas She loves to give them away And all of the neighbors they say Oh me-ya oh my-ya you really should try-ya A little piece of the Princess Pupule's papayas..."
Did I hear Billi purring during that entire interaction? I suspect Billi was feigning helplessness to get more attention/interaction from you Kendra. Kinda like two friends/loved ones play little harmless games with each other.
It's a known cat fact. If there is a human being around, you don't open doors, even if they are a little ajar, and you ask for food to be served on principle 😼😂
My Giuseppe Puss decided he was going to have a nap half way through his breakfast the other day and I was with him when the penny dropped that he had left some food in his bowl and did a zoomie into the kitchen to snaffle his crunchies, so funny!
Billi does this for the same reason that fan-toy is better than zoom-zoom. Food mousey, food puzzle and twirly are "set it and forget it" feeders, just like zoom-zoom is a "set it and forget it" toy. Billi wants you actively interacting with her while she has food, just like you have to actively interact when playing with fan-toy.
@@denisesudell2538 Billli has already shown she likes an activity involving cognitive stimulation, food, and the undivided attention of her human - see any video where she requests "training." Made the logical leap from there.
Most cats are like this, honestly. At least with someone they love & trust who meets their needs. Cats are not as solitary as some stereotypes would suggest. They get bored and lonely without interaction, even if they can technically do it themselves. I'd take it as a compliment if your cat wants you involved in everything they do, and vice/versa.
@@heatherbryant4197 Yup. The modern house cat is the result of our encouraging the most sociable of this formerly feral species to stay with us, usually by providing sufficient food. (And even feral cats will form colonies (or clowders) if the food is adequate to support them.) Billi is being true to her roots. 😸
I appreciate you trying to hold in your laughter out of respect - as someone watching I usually can't help but laugh whenever she presses that infamous button
Billi: Mother, what is the point of having a servant if I must do everything myself? Kendra: you're not helpless! And I'm not your servant, I'm your mom. Billi: I'll humor you and allow you to delude yourself into thinking of yourself as merely "Mom." I know the truth and deep down, I think you know it, too. Kendra: ... Billi: ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... Kendra: = giggles = Billi: = ear twitch of irritation, stink eye glare, plotting demise of servant = ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... Kendra: yeah, I see where this is heading. Billi: "mad" Kendra: you win. Billi: yes, of course. Did you ever doubt this inevitability? Fool.
My girl cat does the same thing! She pretends to be unable to get treats out of the puzzles and expects me to do it for her but, if I walk away from it, she'll grab the treats without any hesitation or her brother will get them all. They do like to have us at their beck and call!
Maybe Billi is just looking of excuses to interact with Mom. My late baby used to refuse to eat on his own if I was around. He'd ask to let him sit on my legs while he ate, or at the very least pet him while he cronched. I miss him 😢
This is how I feel about eating those crabs that you hit with a hammer relentlessly to pick out a toothpick size piece of meat. Too much work for too little payout! 😂
Billi reminds me of my cat.... she can see/smell the food in her food mousey, but sits and stares at me. When I fail to get the crunchies out... she doesn't bat at it with her paw, but pushes it with her nose till they fall out. (Her eyes and paws work just fine.)
OMG, my cat does that too! His paws work perfectly well, but he won't use them to get food unless he absolutely HAS to- he bulldozers the treat puzzle around the floor with his nose; I call him Bram-dozer.
@@beth7935 🤣🤣🤣 Bram-dozer! But you are right.... bulldozing is the perfect word! I thought my cat was the only one... and was just being lazy. I guess she probably is.
They seem annoying. She never gets a full bowl of food to enjoy. She already gets enrichment learning language, toys and going out on the harness. If it was just for treats that be different
This reminds me so much of my beloved Buttons who had multiple, complex puzzle games /boxes, and she did end up LOVING them and had better quality of life, for sure. But she'd be such a brat if 😂was nearby and would act helpless and whiney to try and get attention, even if it was something she DEFINITELY already knew how to do...😂❤
I have that exact same puzzle and my oldest cat plays this exact same sob story on me every day even though I've watched him figure it out without any assistance plenty of times.
Billy: "Why YOU do this to me?! I am a cat, not bloody office woker! What next, you gonna make me wear a necktie and white collar and get a job for living?!"
Welcome to my world. This is what Lily did when I brought home a "food mousey." Only there was more swearing. I mean from Lily. She still has never touched it.
Loo...boy do I know that look: "But Muuuuum! Aren't you going to peel me a tuna and hand feed it to me?!? Poor pitiful me, starving and being teased by a human. Woooe is me!"
Oh, lord! Just like my cats when I give them a piece of food or a treat. First step is to knock it in the floor if it was given on a table top. Second step is to give it a couple of smacks to see if it’s alive or dead, maybe throw it once or twice. Once they determine that it’s dead, they give it a little taste test. (One cat is much more concerned about the life/death aspect of the food than the other cat. I think this is the result of her living a partially feral life her first 6 months). They may decide to ignore it for a little bit, and then come back and give it another try.
My boy does the same thing, sometimes he's just not in the mood to play with his food enrichment toy and refuses to eat to try and manipulate us into taking the food out and handing it to him 😂
One of the reasons why cats will not fit their faces in narrow places is because of whisker stress. It's makes them very uncomfortable, that's why Bill tries to use the paw and flinches away when the whiskers crashes against the frame. Also, bear in mind that if it's a new toy, the "brand new odour" can be empowering to their senses until it's gone. Cats are fickle 😅
Yes, the point of the puzzle is utilizing her paw. She chooses to use her face most days. This puzzle has been around for at least a month, so likely no odor interference. She just likes to feign helplessness when I’m there!
This is very much like our cat too. Actually half of what Billie does is similar (he doesn’t get mad as much, though). When motivated: Cat obeys a series of commands the first time to get his meal. (Series = 6 commands minimum, ex: sit, paw, other paw, tunnel, circle, high five) When not motivated: Whines and winds around our legs, pretends he didn’t ask us to get up to give him a meal, requires physical “reminders” of what “sit” means, command is repeated 3x… if he fools around beyond that, we put the food away for at least a half hour, waiting until he asks again. We’ll probably try toys like this eventually, but we will have to use it sparingly after he figures it out or he’ll get bored… bored Attila means lots of whining and misbehaving. Although, if we use treats, he might be motivated for weeks. 😂 (limited diet due to health problem, rabbit dry food + duck wet food, so he goes crazy for a single piece that’s chicken or fish flavored)
