(New Zealand) Fielding Steam Rail had their rail heritage collection on display and were operating their tank engines and offering jigger rides to happy visitors over the weekend of the 8th & 9th of November 2014.
While the Fielding group run regular excursions out on the mainline, it has been a few years since they had held an operating display on this scale at their home base.
Access was provided to almost all of the groups rolling stock collection and some of the building spaces contained photographic displays. Volunteer members were running refreshment stalls.
Little saddle tank F 163 was powering two cars up and down the Fielding yard. Its trips began and finished in the museum compound at the former Taonui station building. When 163 was stabled 'at Taonui' it was the turn of big side-tanker Wab 794 to occupy the yard running up and down the tracks giving visitors a footplate experience.
X 442 is the last of her class in NZ and visitors had the opportunity to climb into the cab of this interesting loco.
A three jigger trolley set was using another of the yard's sidings. Here on offer was the neat thrill of sprinting along the line, parallel pacing with preserved steam locomotives!
