Sometimes in the 70s my dad bought a Fein Multimaster to work on his house. Now, 45 yrs later I'm using the very same Fein when I'm working on my house. Marvelous technology and super-marvelous quality.

Hi, I'd be surprised if a modern Fein will last that long. ALL manufacturers have cut corners on their quality which is a shame.

I have the old corded one. Invaluable for getting into floor cavities in Victorian houses. I bought the Milwaukee 18V to go with my drill / driver set up. It's also been fantastic. That's a nice review giving all the necessary information. Thanks Roger.

Was looking forward to this one, Fein being known for their multitools. The biggest problem for the cordless Fein however, is buying it will leave you on a battery platform that has VERY FEW other cordless tools in its range. Most people are on the other manufacturers battery platforms that you've featured, so are more likely to stick with them so that the tool/batteries are compatible. Personally, despite being on the DeWalt, Makita and Milwaukee battery platforms, I still bought the corded Fein multitool as I believe they are the best and I don't want to pay extra for the cordless and have batteries that I cant use for anything else.(I have the M12 Milwaukee for light cutting). Really looking forward to seeing the results of these tests. Cheers.

Hi, only use the lever to detach the accessories. Bring it fully back before attaching a new accessory. For the accessories, the maximum speed which should be used with, is usually written on the accessory itself or on the packaging. For effective results work with suitable blades, wood for wood, wood/metal if in doubt, TIN if you are hitting brick or hard metal. And the golden rule in oscillation: Let the tool oscillate, don't press too hard, you reduce oscillation and therefore lose efficiency.

Liking this series, Roger. It would be realy good to do a review of the Bosch 12V, not necessarily as a head to head with the 18V, but as an alternative. I have had a corded Multimaster for over 20 years, and it's still going strong, but I am tempted to get the Bosch 12V as a light use portable. I think we are getting to a point with 12V and brushless motors where they are starting to stack up well against their 18V brothers - be good to see SkilBuilder do a discussion video on this - particularly for light trade use.

It is a lovely machine, I have it. This is the renamed SuperCut actually. SUPERB performance, weight balance and ergonomics. Very comfortable using it with one hand. No wonder that Festool have rebranded exactly this model and sell it as their Vecturo. Pretty low vibration for 4% oscillating angle and 19.500RPMs ( still not comparable with the super heavy and bulky brushed 18v Makita, which is almost non-vibrating) - but it is much, much better than the Dewalt, which would kill your hand in just a couple of minutes.

I've got the 12v Fein and it is fantastic, as are their 12v drills. At the time of purchase got the option of the Starlock or the standard OIS blade mounting. Went for the standard. Had the mains version for years and apart from dust in the switch it has been faultless.

I come where Fein is based. It is not a huge company. But all i know most of professionals use Fein cause it works very good, sturdy, tough. I know some craftsmen, they got maschine in use over 40 years. But the tools are not cheap really not and they have a heavy weight. I've got the drilling machine ABSU 12 and well it is top tool!

This comment is about vibration in general. And something else later. First multitool I had to use was BOSCH - the green one (YUK). It was supplied by my employer at that time. He was a cheap person. Would buy a few years old tool just to save 20% of the cost of the new one. Didn't make any sense to me. After using that bosch for 15 minutes straight I had to literally pull it out from my hand with the other one. Just couldn't release my fingers. That thing was rated at 300 Watt. About two years ago I purchased Milwaukee M18 multitool. Because I was already invested in that platform. It is not perfect for sure, but I can run it FOR SURE on 5amp battery from full to flat without taking a break and not experience it at all. can't wait for the brushless one being widely available. Seems more powerfull than that corded one. One of my friends - tradesman for over two decades still thinks that corded means more power. Couldn't get this through his skull that it really doesn't matter anymore if you got a few spare batteries and a couple of chargers nearby

I often hold my m18 by the battery for less vibration on longer cuts as a multi tool really numbs the hand. I’d get this one but doesn’t fit my tool brand.

Used the makita corded for years, just recently bought this one, brilliant machine! The anti-vibration is excellent! I use this tool almost every day in my bathroom renovation business and it’s first class! Highly recommend spending the extra cash! The corded is a great less expensive solution if you don’t need the cordless!

They have to go back, especially the German ones because they have this anti bribery legislation. We don't usually respond to the first returns request and very occassionally they forget but often some accountant phones up in a year or so and then sends an invoice or a threat. We even had one manufacturer pestering us to get the used SDS bits back. Total value £9.00. I told them to get lost.

I work for a company restoring timber windows splicing bits of wood all day with multi tools. Company bought all installers the corded fein and none of them lasted very long at all. Not impressed from a make that's supposedly the Rolls Royce of multi tools. I use an 18v makita now. Is ok until all the teeth snap of one by one where the blade attaches. Am currently on my 3rd and stick to mikita now purely because I'm on the platform and prefer battery tools all day long

Dissapointing for such expensive tools. I own a couple of corded Fein tools but haven't used them enough to have any issues (yet). My trusty Makita stuff does the job well without ever complaining.
@paulf2529

It was doing window splicing that killed mine, (corded fein) a little less than 18 months of use. I got 3 and a half years out of my makita lxt that replaced the fein and the makita still works now and is kept with a sanding pad on. I only swapped a couple of months ago to dewalt as my main go too multitool as I wanted the keyless blade change and had a couple of underused 5ah batteries for the first and second fix nailers so it made sense.
@markforchin7328

Yeah I've seen loads of broken corded fein multi tools. They may be good for small jobs but dont seem to man enough to put up with being used for tougher work. Surprising how much the 18v makita lxt can put up with seeing as how cheap it is in comparison!! I use makita only as I'm solely on that battery platform but find the trigger on the dewalt to be excellent!!

I had a fein cordless multi tool that packed in after 18 months. Being corded I didn't use it half as mutch as the makita lxt I replaced it with. Personally I don't think the fein are that great. My makita was the old style with the alen key so I changed it out for a dewalt, but the makita still worked after a significant amount of work.

@@mattryan1986 Well, only Fein knows exactly why. Mu guess is that MultiMaster brings that sense of heritage (the Original Multitool), while MultiTalent and SuperCut - sound more like super-duper modern marketing names.
