Unbelievable musicians but - let's be honest - at this point their egos were just as big as their skills. Fela was already behaving like a dick and Tony Allen would leave the next year. This is very far from being raw african music. Try some german/french recordings from the 50's or 60's for some RAW shit. Music Republic Blog has some SICK stuff from all over Africa - by far the most musically rich place on the planet.

Fela was a prophet. A multi-talented musician. Could sing, dance, play the drums, trumpet, piano etc. What of the yabis? His shoes are too big. No replacement for Fela. His full band was up to 60 people plus the drivers, cooks etc. His children are trying but for me, Fela was just too much!.
