Nobody arranges horns like Fela. Amazing endurance and concentration. The inspiration is contagious. Timeless genius. Almost everyone sounds like an amateur next to Fela. His musical genius is under appreciated because the righteous message of Justice and Freedom is terrifying to the colonial mentality.
"Having helped enslave Nigerians during the colonial era, Fela believed that in the post-colonial era both Islam end Christianity continued to undermine African social and cultural values" - Man he was so right. Religion keeps dividing us. That never was Jesus' message
It's true that God's message was lost throughout the ages because of religion, but true religion never divides the people. Imams and bishops through the mosques and churches did in the past and they still do it today. I am a Christian myself, but I have equal respect for all the people with all their various religious faiths and beliefs, as long as they are all tied to the universal message of kindness, positivity and love.
My country, Indonesia, is also a country with many islands and in each island many different tribes and faiths. Greedy monsters from other sides of the world have been trying to break us apart to get in and take what is ours. We are finally lucky enough to get a president that is smart and good. But greedy assholes that are still in the government and the dirty money folks behind them are still trying to create chaos or fear. Still using the same methods to make us hate each other. Fela's music and words are always giving us the strength and spirit to keep our guards up and always fight back as peacefully as possible. My friends and I fight with music. Not even shouting political messages, but through making platforms to show / making good alternative music (many times rooted in our own traditional music). All kinds of genres with all kinds of multi-generation audiences. And also through each of our everyday personal behaviour towards each other and others, as well as to mother earth. Thank you Fela Kuti! May your people have their true peace and prosperity in the near future.
" 'the best band I've ever seen live...When Fela and his band eventually began to play, after a long, crazy build-up, I just couldn't stop weeping with joy. It was a very moving experience.'PAUL McCartney
I'll bet. Just listening is an amazing treat to the ears but live would be crazy. I'm sometimes surprised at who was influenced and or/liked Fela. De La Soul made an album with a handful of songs that sampled Fela and it was called Fela Soul. Clever name and awesome to hear his music sampled and reworked. Love it. I can't understand how more people don't know him. I wish I could teach a high school or even a college class just on music. I wouldn't need a text book. I'd teach people about blues and jazz and how they morphed into funk and soul and how they morphed into hip hop/Rap and classic rock and eventually alternative. I would teach the class for free I love it so much. I wish I had a 3 hour block on the radio on Sunday evenings on the radio too. Limited commercials and let me play whatever I want. If I want to play a 45 min song then so be it. I go deep into the music world. The so called deep cuts on the radio are onky about an inch deep lol. They don't even know what a true deep cut really is.
...the length of his pieces, @@erictalkington5674 - way too long to be radio-friendly (it didn't help that he was staunchly anti-establishment in every way). The majors tried to make him compromise on length, but Fela would rather die than dilute his music or message. Now we have the internet, radio isn't that important and people are finally discovering what absolute musical gems Africa has to offer. I locked on in the 1970s. Peace.
i never get tired of this man music because it music that will always relate to the political and social as well as ecnomic aspects of a failed society
One of the greatest!!! We need this kind of politically and socially revolutionary music distributed in every broken black community of America, and every corrupt country in Africa, so that we can become powerful and united as a race again. Rest in solidarity, my Fela. 🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬
That's a great idea ! ! ! This Afrobeat by the Black President instills BLACK PRIDE, and appreciation of black culture & perspectives in other ethnic groups. Jah Bless ! I particularly like the irreverent tone, & sense of humor. It's 'black humor' in a few senses. Bob Marley, The Prophet of 1Love, expresses himself more sweetly, like a gentle, loving poet. Fela is an insightful social critic & commentator.
Stalemate I call this musical arrangement by Fela.Just listening to what bass guitar, key boards twang started. Then the horns. All adds up to an hallelujah.Fela was at his best!!!
THE SPIRIT OF FELA KUTI WILL LIVE ON FOREVER.......HE STILL INSPIRES PEOPLE......THE SPIRIT WORLD IS RIGHT HERE ......NOT OUT IN SPACE SOMEPLACE ....SO HE STILL LIVES ...RIGHT HERE AMONG US.......MAKE NO MISTAKE......HIS POWER WILL BE FELT FOREVER......HOKA HE.....
Fela Anikulapo Kuti is the best musician, ever born in Africa. Some white guys once said that his music is the best music they ever heard that came out from Africa. He is the best..
From Nigeria straight to the world. That is the power of music and Fela Anikulapo Kuti was an enormous influence in opening up the musical depth within Africa.
0:00 No Agreement - 15:30 Dog Eat Dog Wow, an half hour of pure beauty! Thanks so much for posting this. My morning has started off with the coolest of grooves! Will be ordering the entire collection soon!!!
Well, what else can I say... It's 2021 and I am here ruminating over this musical piece. When a super star like Fela Anikulapo Kuti collides with legendary instrumentalists such as Tony Allen (the drummer) and others, what you will get is a timeless piece of art. What more need I say... For even in the year 2100, Fela's works will still be ruling the air waves. Pure genius!
I think Fela was the BEST MUSICIAN EVER. Thanks for the Afrobeat, man!!! The Band Leader who was a MAESTRO.... Nobody even comes CLOSE to the Black President ! ! !
God knows you did try your best fighting for humanity and also fighting against the oppressors yet, many whom you're defending don't believe in you because they lacked knowledge and wisdom.... Baba 70', your legacy can't be washed away. FELA LIVES ON!
Yeah.. his performance in one of Fela's track called "army arrangement" was way too sublime. Fela surrounded his band with legendary instrumentalists. Tony Allen being one of them.
please, @@chiemxerxobi, as of today (27 March 2020), Tony Allen is still very much alive and kicking. Matter of fact, tickets for his 2020 and 2021 European gigs are currently on sale.
BabaStiletto wait for real??? God forbid what I said then, I must’ve heard wrong because I once heard news sometime last year that one of his drummers had passed. Thank you for correcting me lol.
