In 1980 I was living in Ikorodu and went to see Fela perform at the Shrine. Unforgettable. After the show (I was the only white man there) I went to Fela's house. RIP Fela, you were the greatest.
Congratulations. You want a cookie? You people ALWAYS have to inform us of your whiteness as if that makes you special. We don't care! I saw Fela, and I don't have to come here and proclaim my blackness. No one cares!
S/O my father for having an excellent ear for music. He passed away 2011 and that man left me with his taste. By the time I was 11 years old I knew the melodies and lyrics of this masterpiece like the back of my hand. He would often say "Son if the music isn't powerful and doesn't move your soul, why listen to it?. " Rest in Power Dad, Rest In Power legendary Aníkúlápó Kuti✊
Oscars are for cinema. You’re talking about Grammys. As talented as Adela was, those awards aren’t really respectable and Africans shouldn’t chase for that approval.
The likes of JAY-Z, Stevie Wonder and Sir Paul McCartney can project this suggestion. These Iconic stars can see to it that a Post Humour Oscar is awarded to Fela. These 3 great artists knew Fela and understood what he stood for and all his struggles. Fela's children will be so touched should such is awarded to them for their Father's work. Afterall Fela is being recognised globally, at least via Afro Beat.
I call on all Africans (blacks) all over the world to invest in the African continent. "Na black man go do am for black man". Liberate your people from the European slavery mindset that's still going on today. " No dey think say oyibo know pass Africa!
May we Europeans (whites) all over the world also liberate from the European slavery mindeset? It has been our oppressors who enslaved Africans - after they made us their servants.
FELA IS A YORUBA MAN FROM YORUBA NATION IN THE PRESENT UNFORTUNATE COUNTRY CALLED NIGERIA. YORUBA NATION AND HER BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE IS ABOUT 17,000 YEARS OLD. THESE PEOPLE ATE PRE-HISTORY
Osmonbi Kajiko I’m from Igbo tribe , I love fela kuti so much. Have you seen the recent drama that happened in Abuja when one of the leader was fainting and waking up due to questions they asked him on how he squandered money at his control. That thing reminds me about fela kuti music and they’re all happening today
@@donbright3227 You are from Ibo ETHNIC Nation. Ibo is not a tribe, educate yourself and stop listening to your enemies narratives. (Pale-Skin- Neanderthal), from Europe.
Osmonbi Kajiko Hausa Igbo and Yoruba are three major tribe in Nigeria. Each can be described as ethnic group or tribe . They’re all the same , anyway thanks for letting me know . I’m writing from Dubai, United Arab Emirates
@@donbright3227 No, let me educate you more on this topic ok YORUBA is a nation long b4 (Ayesu) wS born a.k.a by Europeans (Jesus Christ). I would like to start a documentary program/show about all these iconic figures in both music and movie industry including fela himself,Hubert ogunde, Muyideen Alade Alomire, Baba sala, Gbenga Gbenga Adeboye and the likes
Your idea, if you make it, would be another big contribution to restarting Afrikan civilization. We are currently trapped in the worship of foreign things and icons alien to us. We are lost. Your idea is needed urgently.
There is no simple way to explain Fela's genius - it is an orchestra, it is choral, it is jazz, it is alluring instrumental harmony, it is mesmerising rhythmic energy, it is Afro-beat! It's qualities are unprintable. It is deep in timbre and richness. The more you listen to it the more you discover! This is why it moves the soul! It is Fela! No one else on Earth can do it. He was one of a kind!
The music is different from previous content. Of course, there are recognized influences, therein. The music is ancestral consciousness as transmitted and exhibited by and in the human experience - known as Fela. Is it possible, the artistry of Fela is consistent with expressions of the most ancient ancestors? This truth warrior often wonders whether there is such a reality as split souls. Perhaps, Fela, Peter Tosh and Lucky Dube are split souls. It is conceivably, Fela, Peter Tosh and Lucky Dube shared DNA of several generations of common ancestors.
34 year old white American here and I fell in love with Fela's beautiful music and message. I've been listening since 2000 and have had many people follow the musical trail of felas. Peace and love
I saw Fela perform twice in Chicago during the 80s. Amazing and entertaining. It was a treat. i'm 64yo and have fond memories of back them. Stay safe. Greeting from FL.
I'm French. Saw him in concert in Paris in 1984.Been listening to Fela's music for 40 years now... and will never stop. It's my background music when I work late at night . Incredible musical figure and Freedom Hero. Risked many time his life. Music incarnate. He surpasses Bod Marley, Stewie Wonder, James Brown, Jimi Hendrix, Miles Davis, Coltrane and many others brought together. His music makes me feel like I had many lives before this one and that in one of those lives I danced to the sound of this magic music... It gives life to a lot of nostalgic visions but also to visions of hope and of a future in which all human beings cooperate, overcome oppression, and share the world.
Dude, that's the coolest thing I've heard in a while. James Brown, Fela, Curtis Mayfield, Jimmy McGriff and BB King are my top 5. I recommend all of them.
The wierd one, the great son of the witches of Africa, one who has death in his pouch, Mr Augustine, the chief priest, the great sage, the great philosopher, the seer, the great son of Africa, the truth sayer, the great prophet, the fearless fighter, the great son of Africa, Baba Eleniyan. (OLUFELA OLUSEGUN ANIKULAPO KUTI ABAMI EDA) Great Respect. Three GBOSA for you. GBOSA! GBOSA!! GBOSA!!!
My children and I broke bread to this music the other day. Afterwards, we danced and danced. The energy was so real! We hugged and danced some more. My adult son had tears in his eyes, he felt it so strongly.
Thanks for love my father fela anikulapo kuti freedom figher baba 70 RIP May bless ur soul my real prophet what talk about everything come true in my country once again Baba 70 RIP
Thats the spirit behind Afrobeats....Its so powerful and why the snowflakes are so scared of it....and unfortunately for them, they cannot hijack it...One love.
There's only one musician like this in a lifetime: Fela; a Nigerian who transcends tribal differences and religion, his music brought everybody together.
From Côte-d’Ivoire, I had the privilège of attending FELA at a concert in ikoyi during my brief stay in Nigeria. This gentleman exudes an indisputable scenic energy. Fela will still mark for centuries the music of the demands of the people.
FELA (For Ever Lives Afrobeat), Abami Eda, Baba7070, you will never be forgotten. A true prophet, sadly your prophecies still continue to come true in Nigeria. The people refuse to learn.
I FOLLOW & HEARING THIS GUY SINCE 1970 , I AM SIXTY FIVE OLD MAN , AND I THINKING YET , HER MUSIC IS FANTASTIC , I THINK , MAYBE IN OTHER LIFE I WAS AN AFRICAN MAN , I FEEL MANY STRONG THIS MUSIC , SALUTES , PARDON MY ENGLISH
and the fact that he speaks realty and future 👐 look at us now.. food trouble water trouble 🎶 petrol trouble 🎶 look pocket monie not there 🎶 suffer for world 🎶🎶🎶
J'ai acheté cet album quand il est sorti, en 1986, mon père et la plupart de mes ami-e-s m'ont regardé bizarrement... Mais je ne l'ai pas regretté, à ce jour, un seul instant !
To be honest Fela was the music president to me I loved even today when he is no more. I am still listening to his music today my Nigerian poet and spiritual teller .
Had the privilege to meet Fela in Portland OR in 1991 or 92 & was mesmerized by his warm & calm energy in the green room surrounded by his ladies . He transformed into a beast on stage & looked like a giant in command .Several years later we had the honor to book Femi Kuti & met Seun Kuti at eh Wow Hall , I am blessed to meet him & his children following their dads footsteps.
I travelled from LA to Eugene, OR, just to see FEMI in a crazy concert around 2006....people say he projects half the energy his dad did on stage so, man, if FEMI almost blows up that small place in that 2006 concert (and the dancers...O M G), I cannot imagine what FELA did back in the day.... if I had a time machine, I d use it to see FELA live anywhere in the world....
Fela Anikulapo Kuti the Abami Eda himself 👍my Dad will play all kinds of Fela’s music while growing up and i enjoyed every bit of his music, Fela is a realist , a story teller who speaks about true life experiences, a man who fought Nigerian Government with music not minding what the consequences could be , an activist to the core . His kind of music can never fade away it’s an evergreen music . I really appreciate he did made his own music which is an original piece of all kinds .
Only a legend like Fela Anikulapo Kuti, can play an instrumental and songs in one album for one straight hours plus and the listeners will not be bored....In fact, you will be sorry whenever the music ends. Rest on in peace,, ancestor Fela.
My best friend was working in Nigeria and saw him live in 1996. He brought back an Album, 1st time I heard it, it totally blew my mind, never forgave him for seeing Fela Live. forever Jealous
i accidentally stumbled across Fela Kuti on here. and wowowowowowow! i am blown away by how amazing his music was/is. definitely very beautiful to listen to. This is my 3rd album of his Ive listened to today. love from California.
when i first found out about him 20 some years ago i listened to him every day almost all day - i never got sick of it - it never ceased to amaze me still never does
@@daveleafey9283 GOD bless you. For this comment. Its so On point. I was introduced to fela as a youth & i still Listen to him till yhis day. He was a prophet Ahead of his time! Blessing!
There Will be no musician like Fela again in this world and in that which is to come..His like comes once in a century and am so blessed to live to witness the amazing act of this extraordinary human being..Fela is not of this world. He's pure Genius and a music grandmaster. Abemi Eda lives on !!!
You tube made listening to Fela Kuti absolutely miserable with it's constant ads and interruptions. I could only get through 20 minutes before I couldn't take it anymore. I have been listening to Fela since I was in college way back when and one of my favorite tunes to this day is ' ZOMBIE ' !!!!!!!
When I was at the age of 20 Fela music was my life can't stay without his music now am 22 his music is a word of wisdom love you fela kuti can't stop playing your music
Listening from Italy 🇮🇹. If fela was a white man he would have been celebrated world wide. He's the greatest African musician and one of the greatest globally.
Greetings, when I first heard Fela Kuti music I didn't understand but the more I was listening then I realize that he was a special person on earth, he had a special spirit that was giving to him by the universe. Long live fela Kuti. Your sista from costa Rica central America. Ache.
There is something about the music of Fela Kuti... it often feels like the weary and restorative road home. A reminder to give body, heart, and mind a reset. Breathe. Move. Surrender. Play. Juicy. It's good medicine.
Baba 70 nor teach me nonsense felabration lives on the memory lane but music 🎧 fade not on our heart ❣ we cherish your part you played in Nigeria 🇳🇬 as a civil rights person and human rights in Africa as a continent
Fela Anikulapo Kuti thank you for what you have done to africans, to human race, as a pioneer and example for encouraging people to live a free and spiritiual life, sharing your truth, speaking free in the face of Vagabonds.In.Power... Thanks for your great body and soul moving music arrangements! RESPECT YOU HONEST UPRIGHT MAN!!!
I regretted that Baba himself was not given the chance to become president of Nigeria. The vision he had for Africa was too much. See what's happening today. like he said years ago when these African politicians were still in diapers" WHO NO KNOW, GO KNOW " He would have made African far ahead of what it is today. No problem. We, Diaspora and pan Africans who love our continent demand greatness. It's not gonna be easy, but gradually " MY PEOPLE EYES DONE DEY OPEN AND DEM DONE DEY TAKE ACTION SMALL SMALL "
Keep the spirit up my brother. You guys should join us we are dyeing here. our naira does not have value because they are packing it in casket and the mansions they built in their remote villages where they cant even develop
We feel you guys bro. That's why we're campaigning and making our voices heard in the western world. You're not alone in these struggles for equality and justice for all in the African continent. Just know that we're in this together and we all love you all equally
Before the rising of the Sun on this cold January day, with aching body from the daily & nightly struggles in these northwest suburbs of Chicago, yours truly ( other than those you aleady know & love) lies on his back on the cold concrete slab floor, with wool blankets, other bedding, & pillows for my bed. I listen & learn & love in return.
Its intoxicating. when i listen to Fela, it's like I am in a trance. Nothing has changed since back in the days when I used to watch and listen to him live at the shrine, the memory is just like yesterday. May his soul continue to rest in POWER!!!
Ich weiß net, aber ein Tag ohne die Musik von Fela zu hören, ist jetzt unmöglich für mich geworden. Der war echt talentiert, leider, dass wir es nun jetzt bemerken. Rest in Peace Olufela🖤✊🏾
And they say European classical music is the height of genius. Mozart. Chopin, Beethoven show me how you’d accomplish this. Never. Musical genius comes in a rainbow colour. Go on Fêla. Tell it.
What a gentle Soul, his music will live forever. When I am angry about our country social-economic matters, I listen to Fela Kuti music to escape it all! Forever Relevant in all Generations!
This music is music, since 1976, when I was a family friend to Abami, never miss is show. Rest in peace, if they are tired we will bring it up, plenty brotherhood all over the world. Alagomeji/idiaba. Zip###eleniyan###freedom for citizens.
I found the philosophy in your music. I found strength, wisdom and a clarion call. Baba 70 after you na still you. Abami eda the man who held death in his porch. Rest on. You've fought well great valour.
I'm so glad I found this album. Normally I'm a rap listener, but I grew to like Afrobeats elements in rap music, and it turned out to be a wonderful genre.
That was the fastest hour and twenty minutes that I recall. Now I know it takes one round of Fela's "Teacher Don't Teach Me Nonsense" LP to pull a GMC's upper control arm. First time I've heard this.. is beyond incredible.
Un uso sapiente della sua musica per comunicare le sue idee di libertà e di lotta ad un intero popolo.. A tutti. Una traccia indelebile per molti, certamente per me. Ho avuto la fortuna di vederlo dal vivo e porto nel mio cuore la sua immagine ed il suo messaggio. Grande black president
An absolutely amazing record..has only only get better over the years..."Teacher don't teach me nonsense" is a masterpiece...and the other tracks take it to another level..
