What a fantastic video on my favourite NES game. It’s true, Felix’s dolphin pal does look a bit ill. I love the game’s colour and adorable different forms and how well it plays. I also really like that it’s kinda easy. So many NES games are in unnecessarily frustrating in an attempt to make them take longer.
Thanks so much, Pam! I’m also a fan of the lower difficulty that this fame has! It’s really interesting how a game being “NES hard” has become a badge of honor amongst some gamers; I personally think that it’s prevented some games from aging as well as they would have otherwise as it makes them extremely frustrating to play, like you said. Felix the Cat, on the other hand, feels just as fresh as it did back in the day and is such a gem!
very cool video and to answer your question LOTR return of the king. It's the only EA game that i've played many times with without friends over many years. Its a great game
Oh wow, I think I actually remember that one! I’m not the biggest LOTR fan but my childhood neighbor used to be and I think I’ve seen him play that one before! Such a great game, if it’s the one I’m thinking of!
What a pleasent review. I remember renting this title from Blockbuster and playing it right after watching Twisted Tails of Felix the cat. The screen crunch and large HUD is pretty common on the nes, and even early SNES carts. You are correct about this being a hardware limitation. It is essentially the tradeoff to pay for great graphics and poping color pallets on early hardware. Many platformers, even modern ones have really bad enemy placement. This makes even the best feeling platformer feel cheap. Felix however still feels like a great play because of the controls. And the power ups are awesome. You should absolutely try a punching glove playthrough! It would be fun to see if there is a cheat or hack to spawn in power ups, like the biplane or dolphin, and use it in levels it is not normally in. Keep these great reviews coming. Your buttery voice and question for the viewer will draw us into watching your entire library. MORE!
Aw shucks, Glitchy, I’m gonna print this out and hang it on the wall. This is definitely true of a lot of classic NES games, heck, it’s still in games to this day when they use dynamic resolution to ensure a stable frame rate. Still a bit of a shame, even though the game is extremely good visually for the NES. And I might! I think a punching glove play through might be a stream or something, or a highlight video for additional content down the line!
Thanks for the review, really well done! I have a lot of nostalgia for my childhood days spent playing Goldeneye and Star Wars Episode I Pod Racer on my N64.
Too many things to say about this game, but I will say just one thing for now: some clouds have secret items, you have to shoot at them several times, and the item will reveal.
Great video. How does Felix the Cat for NES compare to the Gameboy version. Are they different games or is one just a port of the other? Does the Gameboy version also hold up well today?
I haven’t played the GB version in a long time but it’s more or less the same game on a smaller screen and with a few less worlds (so it’s shorter). Still a great game and not nearly as expensive for a cart, iirc
AHH my childhood memories , Felix The cat is one of my favourite game on NES console, my brother was able to finish the game when I accidentally discover 1up if you beat up old man 4:35 Note: 5:25 this old man gives you 1Up 9:08 Yes , it does hold up if kids these days start with old school Nes game before Minecraft and fortnite
Nice video. Let's see. My favorite licensed game is probably TMNT 3 or 4. Co-oping through them as a kid was an absolute blast and they still hold up today!
Ha, funny you mention TMNT! I was actually thinking of covering Hyperstone Heist in a future (if not the next) video! I have a few memories of the first NES game from when I was a kid and also spent a decent amount of high school playing the Xbox 360 rerelease of the arcade game!
@@NichePlays I have not played Hyperstone Heist in probably over 15 years. When you say re-release on the 360, you mean the one that only gave you 20 lives if you played online and had a glitched achievement?
I can only agree with everyone else: great video! Answering your question I would probably say Digimon World for PS1. My siblings, friends and I played it a ton when we were kids and therefore I have very fond memories of it!
Glad you ended up doing Felix, this such a neat game. Great review as always, too. I think my favorite licensed game would be Ghost Sweeper Mikami. An Excellent snes title that is easily one of my fsvorite games. Plus, the game is so good that it made me want to check out the show which in turn got me into anime.
Thanks for a great review! I think my favourite licensed game must be Batman for NES. Gameplay, music, atmosphere and difficulty are just perfect in that game.
Awesome choice! I always loved that game, even though I could never get that far into it. I actually have a pretty good story about that game that I'll have to tell in a future video or something!
