Hello everyone
Today I will take you around a beautiful city in England called Felixstowe. It is a really beautiful city situated by the North Sea. And it is basically a headland between Harwich and Bowdsey.
All information was found on the internet
We have a very large port where ships from all over the world arrive. for you some interesting facts about this town
Felixstowe is a seaside town in Suffolk, England. At the 2011 Census, it had a population of 23,689. The Port of Felixstowe is the largest container port in the United Kingdom
Founded by Colonel George Tomline in 1875, Port Felixstowe began as "The Felixstowe Railway and Pier Company." After two world wars and a series of ownership changes, in 1966 work began on New South Quay. Opened on July 1, 1967 and later renamed the Landguard Container Terminal, it was the first UK-built container terminal.
Today's surgery is not really like the early years. The scale and level of technical innovations have increased beyond recognition. But not everything has changed. Felixstowe was selected in 1967 due to its proximity to major shipping lanes and the main ports of Northern Europe. While this remains a key differentiator, its position has since improved thanks to the development of unparalleled road and rail links.
Changes have been constant at Felixstowe for the last 50 years. The second phase of the Landguard Terminal was completed in the 1970s, followed by Dooley, Walton and Trinity Terminal, the UK's first post-panamax facility to be built in phases in the 1980s and 1990s with the final phase completed in 2004 year.
Growth has continued ever since. The last phase of development, Quays 8 and 9, was opened in 2011 and was extended in 2015. The creation of the newest terminal involved the reclamation of additional land from the Orwell River, but also included the location of the New South Wharf, bringing a full circle history and providing service the largest container ships in the world in the place where the first container ships visited 50 years ago
In 1338 Kingsfleet at Felixstowe Ferry played a key role in the Hundred Years' War - being the place where Edward III gathered his fleet of ships and set out to fight the French. At that time, the waterway opened right onto the Deben River, and today it is a quiet backwater inhabited by swans and loved by anglers.
The Felixstowe Ferry Golf Club is one of the oldest in England. It was founded in 1880. It is one of fewer than 250 genuine golf courses in the world.
More than 4,500 ships pass through Harwich each year, including the world's largest container ships calling at Felixstowe Port.
Felixstowe had six Martello Towers - built to defend the coast in the event of Napoleon's invasion - along the coast at one time. One on land at Landguard was washed away shortly after it was built. The P Tower today is home to the Coastwatch service, Q is a private home and the foundations of another are part of the Bartlet complex, while there are two standing (one home) on the Felixstowe Ferry.
The Felixstowe Pier was once one of the longest in the country - and it used to be twice as long. When it first opened it was 2,640 feet long, a small train ran along its length, and at the end, steamboats called. During the war, it was cut off to prevent the Germans from landing on it, and then its outer part was demolished.
